We look at oer close ratios, we look at the stickability of candidates, we look at the performance of each hiring source, and we look at the time to fill.” And data is even more critical in a competitive market like San Francisco, where the ability to understand hiring trends—what’s working and not working, and the supply of pipeline—directly contributes to success. “When you’re competing against other companies that are also great places to work, with a great story to tell, it’s important to focus your time and energy on candidates whose motivations for a job search align with the Fitbit vision, and whose qualifications are most highly correlated with success at our company.” Health, Wellness, & Fitness San Francisco, California Made 13 hires in San Francisco, San Diego, & Boston

Fitbit Drives Predictable, Consistent, and Insightful Recruiting with Hired

THE COMPANY

Fitbit helps people lead healthier, more active lives by empowering them with data, inspiration and guidance to reach their goals. Fitbit pioneered the connected health and fitness market starting in 2007, and since then, has grown into a leading global health and fitness brand. The Fitbit platform combines connected health and fitness devices with software and services to help people become more active, exercise more, sleep better, eat smarter, and manage their weight.

THE CHALLENGE

Recruiting data and performance go hand-in-hand

Fitbit provides engineers with exciting opportunities to solve problems in a new and growing industry. According to Andrew Dunn, Senior Recruiting Manager at Fitbit, “There are so many companies out there doing great things, but in places where most of the problems have been solved and you’re fine tuning as opposed to helping set the direction of a developing industry. Fitbit allows people to solve interesting—and uncharted—problems, have a solid work/life/balance, while receiving competitive compensation.”

With over ten years experience, Dunn knows the importance data plays in finding, nurturing, and closing the best candidates. “Data is so critical to our success,” said Dunn. “If we can see how things work, we are better equipped to understand the patterns of success. We look at offer close ratios, we look at the stickability of candidates, we look at the performance of each hiring source, and we look at the time to fill.”

And data is even more critical in a competitive market like San Francisco, where the ability to understand hiring trends—what’s working and not working, and the supply of pipeline—directly contributes to success.

“When you’re competing against other companies that are also great places to work, with a great story to tell, it’s important to focus your time and energy on candidates whose motivations for a job search align with the Fitbit vision, and whose qualifications are most highly correlated with success at our company.”

Why Hired?Fitbit was introduced to Hired through a friendly referral. As Dunn shared, “A friend of mine spoke very highly of you, and based on the referral, I decided to take a deeper look.”

According to Dunn, the strong candidate pipeline, along with hiring analytics, were appealing. “The more data you have, the less oddities you’ll have in that in terms of knowing what trends there are.”

The team used Hired on a 3 month trial, before extending with a year long subscription package. “It took a couple of months for us to learn the best ways to use the platform, to see what makes us the most successful, but now over time we can see how we’re improving in each market, and see the funnels in every market and for every role, and get a better sense of the closing rates. We realized the tool was worth the investment, and consider ourselves satisfied customers.”

“Hired drastically improves the time to fill for Fitbit…My most recent time-to-fill report has us under a month, as opposed to the 6–12 months we would normally spend.”

REAL RESULTS

Faster time-to-fillAccording to Dunn, Hired improves the speed and effectiveness of recruiting. “Hired drastically improves the time to fill for Fitbit. The typical 6–9 month courtship of passive candidates, which includes getting them to talk to you, getting them engaged and in the door, is extremely time consuming and tough to plan around. But when you’re on Hired, you’re working with candidates who are actively looking to make a move and actively committed to interviewing. It’s extremely attractive.”

The fast time to fill delivers incredible ROI to a team that is always looking to grow faster, and more effectively. “My most recent time-to-fill report has us under a month,” said Dunn, “as opposed to the 6–12 months we would normally spend.”

Increased team productivityDunn shared, “For us, success is about matching up our needs with the skillsets we’re looking to hire and the locations we’re trying to hire in.”

Because Hired filters through thousands of applicants to the top 5% of candidates, and uses sophisticated algorithmic matching to bring candidates to companies, Fitbit sees the best candidates for its current open roles. Personalized support from an account manager ensures the process moves quickly, and that Fitbit has all the information they need to appeal to candidates. “Working with the account managers helps you understand the competitive landscape and get a better sense of what roles candidates are accepting,” said Dunn. “This is great because it helps you invest your time in candidates that will be most likely to accept.”

Deep market insightIn a competitive recruiting landscape, Hired also helps Fitbit understand how they stack up to similar companies in the competitive San Francisco Bay area. “Hired gives you a quick pulse and direct feedback on where you are in the market,” said Dunn.

Because the candidates on Hired are actively looking for a job, the platform provides a fast way to generate and analyze candidate interactions across a wide range of tech roles and markets. “Hired gives you insight into how effectively your pitch and job descriptions can attract talent, and how effectively your hiring strategy aligns with the existing demand. That information is extremely valuable because it allows you to pivot quicker, and adapt your hiring strategy to the market, so you can see where you should be investing.”
