Please note that all competitions are released for booking on the BRS Tee Booking System,
five days prior to the competition, at 9am. Please ensure that you book a time for play as
this will avoid delays should the competition be busy. It is not good practice to turn up
without booking as this merely causes inconvenience to those who have booked their time
slot, and you may have to wait some time until there is a free spot.

PROCEDURES FOR SUSPENSION OF PLAY/COURSE CLOSURE DUE TO BAD
WEATHER
The procedures listed below are designed to avoid confusion surrounding suspension of play/closure
of the course due to bad weather. The aim is three-fold;
• Protection of the course from long term damage.
• Keep the course playable for members as much as possible subject to above.
• Protection of members in dangerous weather e.g. lightning
The ultimate responsibility for deciding on course closure lies with the Course manager or her deputy.
PROCEDURE
When golfers encounter problems on the course which prevents completion of a hole (e.g. hole
completely surrounded by water) they should contact the Professionals shop. The professional or
his deputy will sound the klaxon which automatically suspends play for 1 hour. He shall then
contact the duty greenkeeper who will attend and inspect the course. After inspection, the
greenkeeper will decide whether to continue the suspension (for a maximum 2nd hour) or to close
the course. If the course is closed then the competition will be abandoned, even if the course
reopens later that day.
When the course is ready for play to resume, the Professional will sound the klaxon and players shall
resume their round.
In the event that no greenkeeping staff can be contacted, the professional shall attempt to make
contact with one of the following Council members;
• Greens Convenor • Match & Handicap Convenor
• Captain
to attend and assess the situation, and follow the above procedure.
IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER
On hearing the klaxon, players may mark their balls and leave the course, or if they are in the
process of playing a hole, continue to hole out without delay (all members of the group must
complete the hole). If they choose to continue, they shall discontinue after completing the hole.
Continuing to play the next hole will result in disqualification. If, however the suspension is due to
thunder and lightning, players must mark or leave their balls and vacate the course immediately.
(See Rule 6-8b).
INITIAL ALLOTMENT OF HANDICAP
• To obtain a handicap a player must submit such a number of cards over 9 or 18 holes, with
an expectation that the norm will be three 18 hole cards over the medal or yellow course.
• However any permutation of 9 and 18 hole cards may be submitted, but must total a minimum
of 54 holes.
• The scorecards must be signed by an Oldmeldrum member who is in possession of a
competition handicap and the cards should all be submitted within a six month period.
• If a player has a previous but lapsed handicap, the previous record may be taken into account
when awarding a new handicap.
MARKING OF A CARD IN A COMPETITION
• In a medal competition a card must be marked by a fellow competitor or a marker deemed
suitable by the committee. In the case of Oldmeldrum Golf Club a suitable person is a
member, guest or visitor who holds a competition handicap.
• Should a member wish to play in a medal group in order to submit a card in an effort to gain
a handicap, then he/she must play in a group of three, where the other two players hold
competition handicaps. This will allow the players playing in the competition to mark each
other’s cards and one of them to mark the card for handicap also.
• For the purposes of clarity, if you do not hold a competition handicap then you cannot mark
a player’s card in a competition.
Description of Club Competitions
General Rules
Unless specifically stated below, all competitions will be played from the Medal Tees for men and
SGL Tees for ladies. Men’s Handicap Sections are defined as being for Members having playing
handicaps on the day of competition of: - Sect. 1 - Handicaps 0 to 12, Sect. 2 - Handicaps 13 to 18,

competitions for which men and ladies are individually competing for a single trophy, there will be
an adjustment in the lady’s handicaps to allow for differences in the course SSS’s.
Gents and Mixed Matchplay competitions which finish level after 18 holes will be played to
sudden death. A name MUST be entered on the competition sheet by the due date or both
players will be disqualified.
Only in exceptional circumstances will extensions be given i.e. medical grounds. All requests should
be made to the Match Secretary.
