FJ Holden Styling Prototypes: Part 2In the previous issue ofRETROAUTOS online wepublished never before seenimages of FJ Holden front endstyling ideas .

Now we have the entire car !

Just take a look at whatDetroit stylists were planningfor the FJ, way back in 1950.That’s three years before itsrelease !

And in case you missed thelast issue, we’ve re-publishedthe front end styling ideas.

Is much bigger than the production car and semi-wraps around the rear pillar. White lines are marks on the old photos.

Here’s another view of a proposed FJ. Look at the chromed mascot on the bonnet.! The rear guards have a much squarer shape than the FX.

Above left: This photo was taken on 14th April, 1950.Note the turned up chrome “wings” onthe rear guard., the chrome strip along the window sills and the chrome wheel dress rings .

Above right: This photo was taken on 27th January, 1950. It shows the frontend styling was locked in very early. See next page for alternatives.

Bottom left and right : These photos were taken on 15th May, 1950. It would appear the grey car, above, has been re-painted black and a flashy chrome mascot added tothe bonnet. Gone are the dress rings from the wheels, and in their place the wheels themselves have been painted white to simulate white wall tyres. Interior images of thiscar were published in Don Loffler’s great book “FJ Holden”, They showed a two tone leather motif combined with a flashy dashboard layout. None made it into production.

GM in Detroit was working on front end styling ideas for the FJHolden as early as January 1950, as these images clearly indicate.
