Key Ideas for this week
Why are FLAME teens are asked to
offer 20 hours of CS each year?
Read on for the two most compelling reasons. 1. God’s wants us to
If we are to be known as Christ’s disciples we must become servants to all. In other words CS is not optional; it is required of Christian disciples
The Gospel calls us each to the Christian responsibility to participate in acts of service, mercy, charity, justice and peace in our local and global communities.
“Faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead” (James 2:17).
Social Justice is a valued part of the Catholic faith as it is proclaimed and lived out within the Holy Family Catholic community
2. It is good for us
Service learning (or learning by doing service) helps learners: 1. Explore or cement one’s values and beliefs 2. Have opportunities to act on ones’s values and beliefs 3. Gain hands-on experience 4. Grow in one’s understanding of diverse cultures and
communities 5. Learn more about social issues and their root causes 6. Improve one’s ability to handle ambiguity and be open
to change; become more flexible 7. Develop or enhance one’s skills, especially in the areas
of communication, collaboration, and leadership 8. Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Participation in CS promotes:
positive self-esteem personal happiness increases the chance of being successful
Participation in CS is one of the most effective strategies for dealing with the impact of stress as well as anxiety and depression.
It is almost a requirement these days on a college resume
Is he taking or returning? Serving or being
served? Why?

Time to Pray. . .
Father,
Allow me to serve others with a joyful heart;
Never keeping score;
Always giving;
Never expecting to receive. Allow me to give of myself,
To give of my talents and of my goods,
To give of my time and of my energy,
To give of my heart and of my soul.
Help me understand the needs of others,
Never criticizing,
Never demeaning,
Never scolding,
You have been so gracious to me,
Always Loving,
Always forgiving
Always restoring;
Never gloating over my defeats, Even when I have been so wrong. Father, keep a condemning spirit Far from my heart and further from my lips.
Allow me to serve others as You serve,
With gentleness, compassion, and tenderness,
Never diminishing the worth of another,
Choosing to extend mercy to
the brokenhearted,
Like You have repeatedly
shown it to me,
Amen.
