Step 1

Cut six 20cm pieces of 20 gauge round wire. These wires will be referred to as base wires.

Hold these wires horizontally and parallel, with ends even to one another.

Mark or note 7cm from the left.

Step 2

Cut one 500cm piece of 28 gauge round wire. This will be referred to as the weaving wire.

Leave a small tail for leverage and, at the mark noted in the previous step, coil once or twice around the bottom base wire (or base wire 1) to secure.

Step 3

Wrap the weaving wire over base wires 1 and 2, between 2 and 3, behind 2, thenbetween 1 and 2.

Wrap the weaving wire over base wires 5 and 6, behind 5 and 6, then between 4 and 5.

Step 8

Wrap the weaving wire over base wire 5, between 5 and 6, behind 4 and 5, thenbetween 3 and 4.

Step 9

Wrap the weaving wire over base wire 4between 4 and 5, behind 3 and 4, then between 2 and 3.

Step 10

Wrap the weaving wire over base wire 3, between 3 and 4, behind 2 and 3, thenbetween 1 and 2.

Step 11

Wrap the weaving wire over base wires 2, between 2 and 3, then behind 1 and 2.

Steps 3-11 completes one rotation of the6/1 weave (single coils on a six-wire base).

Step 12

Complete 10 rotations of the 6/1 weave.

Using finger tips, pinch the ends of the weave intowards one another. This compresses the weave, creates a compact and finished look, allows for smoother transitions and adds stability to the design. All weaves should be compressed in this manner upon completion.

With wire cutters, trim the tail left at the beginning of the weave and discard. Using needle nose pliers, pinch the trimmed end flush against the base wire around which it is wrapped. This will prevent the trimmed end from catching on clothing or scratching skin when worn. All trimmed weaving wires should be pinched in this manner.

Step 13

Coil three times around base wire 4.

Step 14

Coil three times around base wires 4 and5 (bottom arrow). This completes one rotation of the 3/3 weave (three one-wire coils, three two-wire coils).

Complete 6.5 rotations of the 3/3 weave,beginning and ending this weave with the one-wire coils. Trim the weaving wire and set aside for later use.

Curve the top base wire slightly to the left.

Step 15

Curve the 3/3 weave until it is parallel with the top base wire.

With a pair of needle nose pliers, create a sharp V shape with base wire 3, leaving about 5mm of space between the V and the 3/3 weave.

Base wire 3 should be parallel to base wires 4-6 upon completion of this step.

Step 16

With the weaving wire, previously set aside, leave a small tail for leverage (as needed) and complete 10.5 rotations of the 3/3 weave on base wires 1-2, beginning and ending this weave with the one-wire coils.

Note that the one-wire coils are on base wire 1.

Trim any tail at the beginning of the weave and discard.

Step 17

Bend the weave in its center into a V shape, until all 6 base wires are parallel to one another.

At the beginning of the 6/1 weave, bend the outer three base wires down.

At the end of the 6/1 weave, bend the outer three base wires down.

Step 20

At the end of the 6/1 weave, wrap the weaving wire over base wires 4 and 5, between 5 and 6, then behind 4 and 5.

Wrap the weaving wire over base wires 5 and 6, behind 5 and 6, then between 4 and 5.

Step 23

Wrap the weaving wire over base wires 5 and 6, then behind all three base wires.

Steps 20-23 completes one rotation of the 2/2 weave (two coils around two wires, twice).

Step 25

On base wires 4 and 5, complete 5.5 rotations of the 3/3 weave, beginning and ending this weave with the one-wirecoils.

Note that the one-wire coils are one basewire 4.

Trim the weaving wire and set aside for use in the next step.

Bend base wire 6 in slightly.

Step 26

Repeat Steps 20-25 with the three inner base wires on the opposite side.

Bend each set of wires in towards one another.

Step 27

At the end of each 3/3 weave, bend the base wires slightly until they are parallelto one another.

Bend the two base wires at the end of the 2/2 weave in towards one another.

Step 28

Bend the two base wires, at the end of the 2/2 weave sharply until they are parallel to the remaining wires and create their own V shapes. The points ofthese V shapes should be about 6mm from the end of the 3/3 weaves.

All six base wires should be parallel to one another upon completion of this step.

Step 29


Step 30

Add an 8mm 18 gauge closed jump ringto the 6 base wires at the end of the 6/1 weave. Push this jump ring flush againstthe weave.

While a closed jump ring is preferred, a heavier gauge (14 is suggested) open jump ring will suffice.

Step 31

Bend the base wires around the back of the jump ring in two groups of three.

Step 32

To further secure the jump ring in place,coil the base wires, nearest the 6/1 weave on either side of the jump ring, once around the ring, until each group of three wires are once again parallel to one another.

Step 33

With the weaving wire, still attached, coil about 2.5cm in length on the right bottom base wire.

Step 34

With the coiled base wire, create a smallclockwise spiral covering the corresponding side of the jump ring.

Continue to curve the coiled base wire to the end of the corresponding 3/3 weave.

Trim the weaving wire and set aside for later use.

Step 35

Wrap the end of the coiled base wire around the corresponding 3/3 weave.

Trim excess wire from the coiled base wire and discard.

Pinch the trimmed end flush against the face of the 3/3 weave.

Step 36

With the weaving wire, previously set aside, leave a small tail for leverage (as needed) and complete 8.5 rotations of the 3/3 weave on the remaining two right base wires, beginning and ending this weave with the one-wire coils.

Note that the one-wire coils are on the top base wire.

Step 37

Curve the 3/3 weave down along the outside of the coiled base wire until the weave ends at the corresponding 3/3 weave.


Wrap the ends of the 3/3 weave around the corresponding 3/3 weave, as shown.

Step 38 (BACK)

Flip the piece to the back.

Trim excess wire from these two base wires and discard.

Pinch the trimmed ends closed around the weave, to secure.

Step 39

With the weaving wire previously set aside, repeat Steps 33-38 with the three base wires on the opposite side of the jump ring.

Create a counter-clockwise spiral to mirror the opposite side.

Trim the weaving wire for use in the next step.

Step 40

With the weaving wire, previously set aside, leave a small tail for leverage (as needed) and coil about 3cm in length onthe bottom right base wire at the end of the 6/1 weave.

Once the coil is established, trim any tail at the beginning and discard.

Step 41

With the coiled base wire, create a smallcounter-clockwise spiral.

Continue to curve the coiled base wire to the first bare base wire between the two 6/1 weaves.


Step 42

With the weaving wire, previously set aside, leave a small tail for leverage (as needed) and complete 11.5 rotations of the 3/3 weave on the remaining two right base wires, beginning and ending this weave with the one-wire coils.

Note that the one-wire coils are on the bottom of these two base wires.

Trim any tail at the beginning of the weave and discard.

Step 43

Curve the 3/3 weave in a counter-clockwise direction along the outside of the coiled base wire.

The weave should end at the first bare base wire between the two 6/1 weaves.


Step 44

Pass all three base wires between the first bare base wire and 3/3 weave, between the two 6/1 weaves, as shown.

Bend them up around the back of the bare base wire.

Step 45 (BACK)

With the weaving wire, previously set aside, repeat Steps 40-44 with the three remaining left base wires.

The spiral should be clockwise to mirrorthe opposite side.

Once all six wires are secured to the bare base wire, flip the piece over. Trim excess wire from all six base wires and discard. Pinch the trimmed ends closed around the bare base wire, to secure.

Discard any excess weaving wire.

Step 46

Cut one 10cm piece of 14 gauge round wire.

Coil this wire three times around any 10mm mandrel.

Step 47

Trim excess wire from each end of the coil and discard.

With a pair of needle nose pliers, create a gap at one end of the coil.

Step 48

Feed the coil onto the closed jump ring as you would a key onto a key ring.

Your pendant is now complete!

For daintier earrings, use smaller 22 gauge wires for the base wires and replace the coiled bail with an ear wire.
