FLEURS DE VILLES produces one of a kind floral extravaganzas.

Our Mannequin Series combines high fashion and fresh florals through inventive and artful displays showcased at some of the top shopping centres in Canada, over a five day period in each market.

Each exhibit features a collection of floral-dressed mannequins, in a gallery-like setting, which grows from a partnership between a local florist and a leading brand – inspiring new creative direction through collaboration.

Launched by a VIP Media night, each show is an experience for the senses, engaging brands with consumers, while supporting true art, in high-traffic and elegant locations.

5 DAY EVENT

Spring 2017 (Late March – mid May)

Each curated and bespoke event brings the best of stun-ning floral design, complemented by carefully chosen exhibitors, in a dynamic ‘must-see’ program which draws strong interest over the 5 day period.

Components include:

- Stunning floral mannequins designed by the best florists in each market, showcased in an elegant gallery like setting

- A ‘fan-favourite’ contest in which the public votes on their favourite mannequin

- An engaging contest with a trip to Europe as the central prize

- Tenant engagement by way of decorated windows and promotions around floral themes

- Promotion will be centered with well-chosen media and promotional partners. Locally and nationally. Social media will play a key role as will content driven stories in the media for a strong PR component

SHOPPING CENTRE POP-UPS – SPRING 2017

5 DAY EVENT

The event focuses on driving traffic through a stunning, experiential in-centre installation and a lively weekend flower market.

Tuesday evening – VIP and media launch

Wednesday through Sunday – In-centre fashion focused installations

Saturday – pop-up flower market in-centre

VIP MEDIA LAUNCH

A garden party celebration to kick off the show with 100 - 150 invited VIPs to each centre with high profile guests, partners and all the installations.

FLOWER MARKET

1 DAY EVENT

Within the 5 day event

Taking cue from the very successful European flower markets, this simple, open-to-all concept has a ‘farmer’s market’ feel, but in an upmarket setting with flowers as the focus. Set up is in the morning, take-down that night. Like the floral mannequin series, this is a big traffic driver.

Components include:

- Market-style floral vendors selling their flowers, accessories, decorations and garden-related wares

- Opportunity for other ‘market’ style vendors like cafés or bakeries if not in conflict with retailers in the centre

- Opportunity for in-centre retailers to do an external pop-up in the market if they like, and other ‘garden’ vendors, carefully chosen, to display

- Word of mouth is a key driver. This one day ‘pop-up’ style market is heavily promoted through media partners, social media and a collective database, as well as tagging on to the overall 5-day event messaging

Who doesn’t loveflowers? It’s a resi-dency requirement

if you want to live in theCity of Gardens, isn’t it?

So it just made sensethat Fleurs de Villes co-founders Tina Barkley andKaren Marshall, two long-time pals who say theynever leave a city they’revisiting without seeing aflower show, would settheir sights on Victoria.

Despite dramaticchanges in our cityscapeand culture, this is a townthat still holds an annualFlower Count promotion,after all.

“It was very apropos tobe in Canada’s flower capi-tal,” said Barkley, who withMarshall staged the floraland fashion event’s Cana-dian première here lastTuesday.

It was hosted by MayfairShopping Centre, whereyou can still see the amaz-ing fusions of fashion, flow-ers and mannequins cre-ated by local designersuntil closing time today.

From the sights ofbotanical bikinis to orchidsraining on an umbrella-toting mannequin wearinga trenchcoat and rain boots,the fashion and flowerpower was eye-catching.

“The most phenomenalresponse was from theflorists themselves,” saidthe Vancouver-basedlifestyle expert and mediapersonality, who is alsomounting an event thereMay 4-8 at Oakridge Cen-tre.

“It was an exciting proj-ect that they reallyembraced, and there werepeople all over the mallstopping dead in theirtracks.”

Jane Brajkovic, ownerof Fine Floral Designs byJane, described Fleurs deVilles as “a once-in-a-life-time event” for local floraldesigners to network andunleash their creativity.

She won the Best inShow award for Bellissima,a Venetian-style mannequininfluenced by productionsstaged by Pacific OperaVictoria, for which she cre-ates grandiose opening-night floral arrangements.

“We were smitten,” saidBrajkovic, whose fashionstudies inspired her cre-ation that features a floralgown created with orchids,roses, hydrangeas, carna-tions and scabiosa.

The front bodice wasembroidered with blackmondo grass, and her hairwas curved into a stylishbun with amaranthus andadorned with a fascinatormade of orchids, parrottulips and Peruvian appleblossoms.

Bellissima, whose maskwas arranged with carna-tion petals, brunia and Ado-nis foliage, also wears anecklace made out of orna-mental threaded dates witha cameo in its centre cre-ated with a scabiosa bloom.

Other winners includedthe Efferve Lemonademannequin designed byPetal and Kettle, which was

named most realistic; andBrown’s The Florist’s Victo-ria Symphony Mannequin,which took the most-original award.

In addition to theexhibits of 17 floral-dressed mannequins, thefive-day fashion and floralextravaganza included apop-up fresh-flower marketat Mayfair on Saturday.

It featured fresh-cutflowers, pots, garden bedsand supplies, a nursery,fresh vegetables and a chil-dren’s flower craft activityarea.

Shoppers also got anopportunity to enter a con-test for a chance to win atrip to Paris and otherprizes, including a VIPexperience at ButchartGardens and a Coach hand-bag.

“We’re thrilled to behosting this amazing springfashion and floral event.It’s a perfect way to wel-come the season,” saidLaura Poland, Mayfair’sgeneral manager.

Other local participantsincluded Platinum FloralDesign, Foxgloves Flowers,Daisy Chain Florists,Fleurtacious, A Sea ofBloom, Tara McHughFlora, Jennings Florist,Petals Plus, Ingrid + Roseand Decorate Victoria.

“It was nice being ableto network with other floraldesigners,” Brajkovic said.“Rarely do we get thechance to get together withthe best in town. We allhave such busy lives andschedules.”

One of the event’s poten-tial offshoots was the cre-ation of a flower associa-tion for local florists anddesigners, Barkley said.

“We didn’t realize theydon’t already have a flowerassociation within Victoria.They could reach out andhelp each other.”

Each in-centre event series consists of 15–20 mannequin installations and other non- mannequin creations. Designers may take inspiration from corporate branding or promotional activities (colours, product, country of origin etc) and work to engage consumers’ attention – and of course make a beautiful selfie-worthy display! FLORIST PARTICIPATION

- Floral partners will be given an honorarium of up to $1,000 to put towards the hard costs of their displays

- Mannequin designers will be supplied with a fashionable white mannequin (poses vary)

- Installations must last for 5 days - from Tuesday to Sunday (floral foam and chicken wire liner must be used)

- Mannequins will be placed on a 5”x 5” platform. Styling and cover of the platform should be incorporated in your design

- Mannequins must be outfitted (and surrounded) by floral fashions be it; a dress, ball gown, apron, lingerie, scarf, bag or umbrella... the options are endless!

- No clothing or non-floral props may be used without consent

- Florist logo, florist background and inspiration for each installation will be submitted for signage and showguide inclusion

- We welcome behind the scenes photos of your work in progress to post on our social media platforms

- Set-up will begin on Tuesday in preparation for the VIP/media launch event on Tuesday evening. Strike will take place Sunday after 6pm.

- Regular check-ups by designers are required and/or replacement flowers should be planned for as needed (On-site staff will be on hand to perform regular spritzing to sustain the flowers for the 5 days)

FEBRUARY 15, 2017: Confirmed florists for each centre are announced

PREPARATION & EVENT SET-UP

WEEK PRIOR: Mannequins delivered to each florist.

LAUNCH EVENT DAY: Floral installations/mannequins delivered to the shopping centre between 10am–2pm (delivery details to come).

Florists are to style and cover the platform beneath each mannequin on site, by 2pm.

LAUNCH EVENT

Arrive at 6pm for the VIP/media launch - mingle with guests, talk with people about your design, and attend the award ceremony.

5-DAY INSTALLATION

WEDNESDAY: Open to the public during shopping centre hours.

Daily mannequin check-ups are required to replace flowers, spritz and “fluff!”

SATURDAY: Flower market 10am–5pm (see flower market page for further details).

FLORIST INVITATION TO CREATE FLORIST SUBMISSION

We are delighted to invite local floral designers from Burlington and surrounding areas to submit a proposal to join Fleurs de Villes in 2017. PLEASE READ THROUGH THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES TO ENSURE YOUR SUBMISSION IS COMPLETE.

DESIGN SCOPE:Please submit a drawing of your initial design, along with a paragraph or so of what your design will entail - please be as specific as you can, noting florals that will be used and fashion inspiration.

Designs are initial ideas at this stage, we realize there will be some changes and improvisations based on the sponsor you are partnered with. WE ARE ALL NOT PAINTERS OR SKETCH ARTISTS, SO ROUGH DRAWINGS ARE FINE!

COSTS:Fleurs de Villes will contribute up to $1000 to your flower costs. We have a floral consultant checking proposals to be sure the cost is in line with the proposed design - costs for designs featuring more greens and less florals are expected to be less. Should you choose to embellish your mannequin beyond the $1000 budget, that is very much welcomed. Please use this five day installation as an incredible promotional opportunity! Invoices will be submitted on the day of set-up and we will reimburse you within 10 days.
