What is Flickr?

Flickr is an image and video posting website and online community. It is a popular site for people to post pictures for blogs, social media, and entertainment

As of October 2009, Flickr housed more than 4 billion images

Getting Started with Flickr…

The first thing to do when you get onto Flickr is to create an account. This account is for only you to access but remember that everyone can see your pictures for now.

Once your enter your personal information, such as e-mail and name, you will get to choose your screen name for Flickr. This will be used a way for people to find your images.

So Your Done with the Set-up- Now what?

Once set up is complete, you are ready to begin! The main screen will show you every option you have. Take a minute and search around. The best way to learn from a new website is to explore what they have to offer.

Flickr Basics…Who are you on Flickr?

Flickr Basics…Now you can set up who you are on Flickr by personalizing your buddy icon, choosing your URL name, and personalizing your profile.

Choosing your own URL…You can choose your own URL name as a way for

people to go directly to your pictures. Students will enjoy this feature because it gives them a sense of ownership and responsibility to their images.

Uploading Images

Uploading Images…You can upload everything from images to

videos onto your account.

Once you upload a picture, you can add a fun description of the picture and can even tag the picture so others can find it as well.

Organizing Your Pictures..

Organizing Made Easy…You can group your images into different

categories to make it easy to share, view, and explore.

Keeping in touch with your friends is easy to do on Flickr. You can create a group so that you can share images and conversation.

You can also join other peoples groups to make new friends or start your own group!

Exploring Flickr….Flickr makes it fun and easy to search for

photos. By clicking on EXPLORE you can search photos from different months or by description of images.

Privacy on Flickr…..How safe are you while using Flickr?

When you first sign-up for Flickr, your privacy is automatically set so that viewing is appropriate for all ages.

You can change your privacy settings to make some photos private or public and to filter who is allowed to view them.

Students Started?

Getting the Students StartedYou can get your class started easily on Flickr

by having each student set up their own Flickr account.

Students can add, edit, and post imagesHave each student join your school group so

they are all linked together.

Lessons For The Classroom….

Create Your Own Diamante Poem•Students can create their own Diamante Poem and post their poetry on Flickr. •Students should use Microsoft Word to create their poem and gather a picture from Flickr. Once students are finished, they should upload their poem onto the class group so other students can view their work.

Standards:• Technology CPI-8.1.2.A.4 – Create a document with text using a word processing program•Language Arts- Writing 6- Choose words and phrases to express ideas precisely and concisely

Learning About Action Verbs•Learning about action verbs can be fun and easy on Flickr.•Students should find examples of action verbs on Flickr. They can use these pictures to create a very brief story to tell others about the action going on in the picture.

Standards:•Technology CPI- 8.1.2.B.1- Illustrate and communicate original ideas and stories using digital tools and media-rich resources•Language Arts- Writing 9- Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard written English, including grammar, usage, and mechanics.

Create A Timeline•Students should create a timeline showing how America has changed from its start to present day.•Students should add descriptions of how the look of the city has changed. All pictures should be in chorological order.

•Standards: •Technology CPI- 8.1.4.A.3- Create and present a multimedia presentation that includes graphics•Social Studies CPI- 6.1.P.B.1 – Develop an awareness of the physical features of a community

Create Your Own Travel Brochure•Students can create their own travel brochure by choosing a country and exploring its views, government, attractions, and resources. Students can find pictures on Flickr and post their brochure when completed.

Standards: •Technology CPI- 8.1.4.A.3- Create and present a multimedia presentation that includes graphics•Social Studies CPI- 6.1.4.B.4- Describe how landforms, climate and weather, and availability of resources have impacted where and how people live.

Comparing and Constrasting•Students should each find a picture on Flickr that shows a person performing an action. They should then pair up with another student to compare the two images to show how they are different and how they are alike.

Standards:•Technology CPI- 8.1.4.A.3- Create and present a multimedia presentation that includes graphics•Language Arts- Speaking & Listening 8- Respond constructively to advance a discussion and build on the input of others.

Create Your Own Autobiography•Students can create their own autobiography by uploading pictures of themselves onto Flickr.They should add explanations and information about their life.

Standards•Technology CPI- 8.1.P.B.1 – Use a digital camera to take a picture•Language Arts- Writing 14- Convey complex information clearly and coherently to the audience through purposeful selection and organization of content
