John Schmidt · Fullerton, CaliforniaFantastic stuff! I've started to incorporate this in my cinema courses, because the students have been giving more thumbs-down on lecture. Theyneed hands-on, creative, active settings. In case any of you are intimidated about doing those short little videos that they view out of class, I'd like tosuggest something I use all the time: http://www.telestream.net/screen-flow/ --not sure it's for PC's too, but works great on my mac. Very simpleto use. Good luck to all.Reply · · Like · Follow Post · September 5 at 12:50pm8
Guy Fox · Murrieta, CaliforniaOur son Trevor's Chemistry teacher is doing this and it is working great for him. He misses info in regular lectures because he is not agood note taker. With these he can pause it, write his notes and then continue. He then can ask about what he doesn't understand thenext day in class as the teacher demonstrates the concepts with hands on applications. Great idea!Reply · Like · September 7 at 11:35am

Jimi Alexander · ArizonaInnovation is critical in just about every aspect of life: why isn't it adopted in the classroom? Why do we forsake researching a potential savior for ourschool systems with our educational apparatus sliding into obsolescence? Instead of paying ludicrous salaries to fat cat school administrators andkowtowing to teachers' unions, we need to be bringing projects like this to scale in our school districts to see if they can bring results.Reply · · Like · Follow Post · August 31 at 1:22pm1
Derek Bruff · VanderbiltGreat explanation of this concept. It dates back before 2007, however. I heard Harvard physics professor Eric Mazur describe this approach back in2002, for instance.Reply · · Like · Follow Post · August 31 at 2:10pm1
TJ Murphy · Associate Professor of Mathematics Education at Northern Kentucky UniversityDee Fink at the University of Oklahoma was talking about these ideas in the late '90s/early '00s too ...Reply · Like · August 31 at 2:19pm

Yeah, I heard Barbara Walvoord talking about it pre2007 as well, although not specifically about use of tech, which isn't required. Ch. 6 inthe latest Effective Grading gives some nice examples of the flip.Reply · Like · August 31 at 2:19pm

Darryl Loy · Associate Head of School for Operations at Fort Worth AcademyDawn, I don't know for sure what these guys were doing but here are a couple options...you can record your voice on a PC using SoundRecorder and embed that in your powerpoint slides and make a slide show with timed transitions...another option is to use a web toollike http://www.screencast-o-matic.com/ which records your screen as you talk through your lesson on the computer...hope this helps...Reply · · Like · September 11 at 3:42pm1
