Rabbit Heart Music Video Analysis In the first few seconds of the video, we are presented with a visual of a veil being lifted from Florence’s face creating several connotations; one being that she is married to her career, suggesting dedication and love of what she does, yet the other connotation of the veil suggests something darker. It seems as though a veil has been lifted and that she sees everything with a lot more clarity (“yet quickly the glamour fades”), creating the impression that the record label she works for is hiding things from her and distorting the reality she lives in. The veil is covered in sequins and jewels connoting that the record label is perhaps “distorting” her vision with money. There is an element of intertextuality with “was that the wrong pill to take?” with the Matrix, you are presented with two pills where one shows you the reality of it all, and the other allows you to keep living in the fake reality; it appears that Florence chose to live in the fake reality and has only just realised that she doesn’t live in the real world. Here in this close up Florence moves her head from side to side showing off her earrings, they are triangles with eyes in the centre denoting the illuminati. “Made a deal” suggests she has offered the record label (interpreted to be Satan/evil- good vs. evil) something and now she realises that it is “not enough”. “This is a gift, it comes with a price” She is singing about the price of fame, the sacrifices she had to make. “Who is the lamb and who is the knife?” She doesn’t know who is evil within the record company. “Midas is king... turns me to gold” Intertextuality with the story of Midas who was able to turn anything he touches into gold, this could link in with Florence’s record label, they’ve made her a star- she’s been manufactured into who she is. Here in this picture, it appears to be the scene of a wedding, connoting that she is again married to her job, however many other interpretations of this scene has risen. One interpretation is that Florence has fallen down the rabbit hole into Wonderland and this is the Mad Hatter’s tea party, however it

Rabbit Heart Music Video AnalysisIn the first few seconds of the video, we are presented with a visual of a veil being lifted from Florence’s face creating several connotations; one being that she is married to her career, suggesting dedication and love of what she does, yet the other connotation of the veil suggests something darker. It seems as though a veil has been lifted and that she

sees everything with a lot more clarity (“yet quickly the glamour fades”), creating the impression that the record label she works for is hiding things from her and distorting the reality she lives in.

“Midas is king... turns me to gold” Intertextuality with the story of Midas who was able to turn anything he touches into gold, this could link in with Florence’s record label, they’ve made her a star- she’s been manufactured into who she

is.

Here in this picture, it appears to be the scene of a wedding, connoting that she is again married to her job, however many other interpretations of this scene has risen. One interpretation is that Florence has fallen down the rabbit hole into Wonderland and this is the Mad Hatter’s tea party, however it is also interpreted to be similar to the painting of The Last

Supper, further creating connotations of sacrifice; “this offering we raise it up”- Bring forth the sacrifice, raise it towards God. The idea of Florence sacrificing herself appears again when the table they were eating on turns into a white coffin- a coffin of purity and enters into the water, adding more intertextuality to the lady in the lake.
