L ast month, the MARTA board unanimously adopted the locally preferred alternative for MARTA light rail service from Lindbergh Center to Avondale. We’ve been reporting on this story for close to two years, and this latest milestone brings MARTA rail service in the Zonolite/Emory area one step closer to reality. The next phase (engineering) is now beginning and will last 18-24 months. View proposed route details and station concept maps at: itsmarta. com/clifton-corr-maps.aspx. Sections 3 and 4, and the Sage Hill Station concept map are of most interest to the FloatAway Community. Tunnels are proposed in certain sections of the route, including a portion of section 3. MARTA light rail is proposed along the north side of the CSX tracks (not “our side), and the new Sage Hill Station is to be located off of Briarcliff Road, near the Clifton Road intersection. Gerlinda Grimes entered a public comment at the MARTA board meeting, requesting that improvments be made to the Clifton/Briarcliff and Zonolite/Johnson/Briarcliff intersections in conjunction with the Clifton Corridor Transit improvements. The CCTI will be funded in part by a proposed penny sales tax (TSPLOT). We will all have a chance to vote yes/no on this tax this July 31. Last month, the MARTA board unanimously adopted the locally

preferred alternative for MARTA light rail service from Lindbergh Center to Avondale. We’ve been reporting on this story for close to two years, and this latest milestone brings MARTA rail service in the Zonolite/Emory area one step closer to reality. The next phase (engineering) is now beginning and will last 18-24 months.

View proposed route details and station concept maps at: itsmarta.com/clifton-corr-maps.aspx. Sections 3 and 4, and the Sage Hill Station concept map are of most interest to the FloatAway Community. Tunnels are proposed in certain sections of the route, including a portion of

section 3.

Learn more about the tax and the regional transportation projects it will support at atlantaregionalroundtable.com.

FACE THE FANS!Face The Fans, 1145 Zonolite, just launched their

first game, called The Agency. You play the game as a Talent Agent (like Jerry McGuire or Ari Gold) and recruit Stars into your Agency. Get points when your Stars are mentioned in news articles, or when you send them on a Gig. And starting next month, real celebri-ties will host the game and award amazing prizes (first up Tribble Reese, from Sweet Home Alabama!). More at FaceTheFans.com.

ZONOLITE GREENSPACEHere’s an update on the awesomeness that is Zonolite Park, FloatAway’s newly reclaimed backyard oasis

The EPA has (finally) finished its work in Zonolite Park, and the greenspace has been returned to the Dekalb

County Parks Department. As we’ve reported previously, the South Fork Conservancy has developed a master plan for Zonolite Park, which the County has adopted. Plans for the park include:

Terry Sutton (Cascade Forestry) has generously •donated time to clear and maintain park trails for 2012. The photo (right) shows the convergence of the outer and inner loop trails.

Wetland plantings are planned around the newly •graded “resevoir” to improve its visual appeal and, hopefully, discourage mosquitoes.

A community garden will be installed in the •meadow. If interested in garden planning or in renting a plot, email [email protected]

GA Tech has expressed interest in designing a •water collection system that could supply the new community garden

A kiosk is planned near the park entrance (next to •

the Soto Zen Center on Zonolite Place), as well as signage to mark the trailheads

Dekalb County is currently breaking up and •removing two large concrete slabs left behind by W.R. Grace. The remaining area will be graded and hydroseeded to become part of the meadow.

The Briarcliff Animal Foundation is exploring the •possibility of an off-leash dog park in the wooded area. This is in the early stages and will require community approval, so don’t get too excited!

Congratulations to Artagrafik, our tenant of the quarter for Q2 2012! Artagrafik is a creative digtal agency. Their entry into

last year’s annual wreath decorating contest was the “i-wreath,” an homage to Steve Jobs featuring an interactive ipad display. They quote Steve Jobs on their website: “Design is not just what it looks like. Design is how it works.” Artagrafik’s philosophy is that people are smart, and consumers appreciate authenticity. They believe brands are living, interacting things—and they treat them as such. Learn more about Artagrafik at artagrafik.com.

Y’all, we’ll be cleaning HVAC coils in June. We have this done annually, and the cost is separate from your

quarterly HVAC maintenance charges. Paulson-Cheek bills directly for this service. Email me at [email protected] if you have any questions about these billings.

TENANT OF THE QTR

BOi TIPSWit and wisdom by property manager Jan McCurry’s emotionally evolved alter ego “Boi.”

One of the best birthday parties TuckerMott’s very own Gerlinda Grimes ever went to was held

by the pool at Rama Roy and Lauren Mross’ loft. Rama and Lauren were FloatAway tenants, and Sol Catering had just opened up on Zonolite Road, so it was only natural for them to think of Sol when they were looking for a caterer.

Delicious! The highlight of the menu was the taco bar. Sol Catering sells each of their meat fillings for $24/pound (3lb minimum); taco fillings and garnishes come with your meat selection. So, if you order fish tacos, you’ll receive fried tilapia, plus pickled jalapenos and poblano tarter sauce. Sol Catering also offers a range of upscale small bites, deserts, sweets and sides. For rates and menu information, visit them on the web at solcatering.net, or call David Waller at 404.853.3239.

SOL CATERINGSummer’s almost here, which means summer parties, which means summer food, which means Sol Catering
