They will be carefully extracted and conserved during the dismantling of the corner to protect them and the structure below. FLOOR $1,500 JOISTS STUCCO $3,000 PLASTER The exterior stucco and interior mud and plaster walls will be carefully removed and stored with the hope of possibly reinstalling them in the southwest corner at a later date. STONE $6,000 WALLS As the walls are dismantled piece by piece, they must be cleaned and repaired for reinstallation. Archaeology around the foundation of the house will precede this work and assist with organizing the dress and rubble stones for reinstallation. This locust tree planted itself in the stone steps of the south portico of Menokin. For decades it grew unchallenged. Its roots snaked through the southwest corner of the house, disrupting the stone foundations and walls. Its removal presents an enormous challenge. The inventory taken at Menokin after Lee’s death reveals a robust collection of spirits locked away in the brick barrel vault. Perhaps one of the most iconic physical features of the house, protecting it during stablization is of paramount importance.
