  • HISTORY The sport of Floorball/Hockey evolved from ice hockey. British soldiers invented modern ice hockey in the 1950's, while stationed in Canada. The first organized indoor hockey games took place in Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1962. The sport is popular among both boys and girls, and there are many teams, leagues and events centered around the sport.

  • HOW TO PLAY There are 5 field players and 1 goalie Game play initiates with a faceoff at the middle of the centerline Game length is 3, 8 minute periods with a 5 minute break between each period Points are scored by the ball being advanced into the opponents goal; after each goal a faceoff occurs to continue game play

  • In a regulation game of Floorball/Hockey, players must wear athletic attire; it is recommended that the goalie wears gloves. Be aware of your special surroundings when swinging your Floorball/Hockey stick Playing area needs to be debris free Remember to communicate with your teammates on the field FLOORBALL/HOCKEY SAFETY

  • TRAPPING Trapping the ball by tilting the blade, preventing it from rebounding away.

  • SHOOTING When the offensive player uses the floorball/hockey stick to shoot the ball/puck into the goal to score a point for the offensive team

  • SHOOTING CUES 1. Grips hockey stick with V grip 2. Eyes looking at the target 3. Swings stick and contacts the puck 4. Puck goes into the goal or to the target

  • INTERCEPTION When the defense steals the ball from the offense, (no stick to stick contact) or putting your stick between your opponents feet

  • GOALTENDING Preventing the ball from entering the goal by blocking shots with the hand, body, foot, or stick, the body should remain low moving from side to side GOALTENDING VIDEO

  • GOALTENDING CUES 1. Move back and forth across the goal mouth 2. Eyes on ball/puck 3. Use arms, hands, and head to block high and side shots, and use the legs for low shots 4. Catch the ball/puck as often as possible

  • FACE OFF Occurs when the game begins and after a goal is scored; Two opposing centers face each other, holding their sticks on the floor and the ball/puck is dropped between them; each player tries to gain control of the ball FACEOFF VIDEO
