• Motivated, 61% sought out their leadership role• Confident in – knowledge (87%) – in practice (92%)Identified Contributors to Their Success• Experience, education, mentoring, right place/right time, vision, formal leadership development

• Only 7% believed their organizations were prepared for loss of leadership

• 68% were concerned that staff are not prepared to  assume leadership

Conclusions• The development of strong, knowledgeable and diverse nursing leadership in Florida is critical to the provision of quality healthcare in Florida

• Survey/study validates the FL Action Coalition Steering Committee’s decision to select Recommendation 7 (IOM) Prepare and enable nurses to lead change to advance health as a state priority

• Need for succession planning
