Mrs Henderson and Ms Scott have been working with senior students who have applied for graduation for over 60 semesters In an effort to improve SBI graduation rates we decided to implement Graduation Workshops Dean Friday-Stroud has made it mandatory that all students planning to graduate must attend this workshop during their final semester

The purpose of this workshop is for us to encourage you to put forth your best effort and to make sure that you know what is required in order to successfully earn your degree

There are requirements and essential steps students who are anticipating graduation must take in order to obtain their degree Failure to complete these requirements and steps can result in a delayed graduation date

FOREIGN LANGUAGE

The State of Florida requires all students who graduate

have a foreign language In order to meet this

requirement you must have successfully completed 2 years of the same foreign language

in high school or 8 hours during your collegeuniversity

matriculation

Check your Academic Profile to see if your requirement has been met You may also have an alert in your iRattler

profile If you know that the requirement is satisfied and see an alert please contact the Registrarrsquos

Office If you have not met this requirement you are not eligible to

graduate

TRANSFER CREDITS INCOMPLETE GRADES DF OR U GRADES

If you are a transfer student or took courses as a transient or study abroad student it is your responsibility to make sure that all credits have been posted to your FAMU transcript prior to the end of the semester (preferably by the first week of the semester in case you need to add a course to your schedule)

ETA ALERT What is it and what does it mean

An ETA alert is an indicator that says you are Eligible to Apply for graduation

It means that you are in your final semester and are taking the remaining requirements towards your degree

The alert is added by your advisor after a final audit is done Advisors must make sure that all academic requirements will be met upon your successful completion of your courses

You cannot apply for graduation until the ETA Alert has been applied to your account

Your ETA alert should be added to your profile no later than close of business June 26 2020

If you do not see your alert please email your advisor the following Monday Please keep in mind that all alerts are not posted at the same time so some may go out before others

APPLYING FOR GRADUATION

You must be sure to adhere to the university deadline and apply for graduation If you do not apply by the deadline your graduation could be delayed

The application deadline to apply online for graduation is July 5 2020

The Registrarrsquos Office will contact you at the end of the semester with additional information you need to graduate

You must take an Exit Survey At the end of the survey is a receipt that you must present to the Registrarrsquos Office in order to pick up your cap and gown and honor chords

Honor chords are only issued to undergraduate students and are based on your GPA the semester prior to graduation

AFTER THE GRADUATION

CEREMONY At the end of the semester when your grades post your advisor will do an

audit to make sure that you have successfully completed your academic requirements

This process is called the Degree Certification process If requirements have been met your advisor will be able to place ldquoGraduaterdquo by your name on the certification list If they have not been met your advisor will place a ldquoDenyrdquo by your name

Once the process is completed in SBI by your advisor the Registrarrsquos Office will do a final audit to make sure that you have not only met academic requirements but that you have also met university and state requirements

Even if SBI has sent in a ldquoGraduaterdquo by your name your degree can still be denied by the Registrarrsquos Office if you have not met some other requirement

Be sure that foreign language and all credit hours have been met

Once the Registrarrsquos Office certifies that all requirements have been met they will award your degree It is usually done within 2 weeks of your participation in the ceremony
