John M. Lajoie, CLI is known throughout the country for his skill and experience as a professional private investigator. Lajoie turned the one-man operation he began in 1989 into one of the largest investigative firms in the Massachusetts currently employing 11 in-vestigators. John holds four investigation professional board certifications. His case experience has ranged from high profile homicides to simple auto accidents, and his client base from the rich and famous to the homeless and indigent. In April of 2006, John was elected and sworn as the 15th President of the Li-censed Private Detectives Association of Massachu-setts. Previously, John had served four terms as the Northeast Regional Director for the National Associa-tion of Legal Investigators and is was NALI’s Certified Legal Investigator program chair from 2006 thru 2010. In October of 2002, Lajoie was recognized as the United States National Investigator of the Year as con-ferred by the National Association of Investigative Spe-cialists based in Austin, TX. Lajoie, an award winning author, has produced numerous publications, and in August of 2005, AuthorHouse published John’s non-fiction book, Trials and Tribulations of a Real Life Pri-vate Eye, a writing of open and honest dialogue about the realities of private investigation told through ex-perience, anecdotes, and true stories. Mr. Lajoie’s in-tuition, investigative acumen, worldwide contacts, dedication to client, no nonsense management style, and tireless work ethic has earned him the reputation as one of the most successful and effective contempo-rary private investigators in the world.

Kitty Hailey, CLI is an experienced investigator who has written extensively for the profession. She prides herself on being an advocate of professionalism to rise the ranks of our field in the eyes of both the legal com-munity and the public. As the manager of a large, all female, agency for more than 15 years, she had the responsibilities of managing, training and acting as chief investigator. Her agency provided full service criminal and civil investigation to the Delaware Valley (PA & NJ). Since that time, she has joined the Federal Defender Capital Habeas Unit of Philadelphia and is using her extensive investigative skills in pursuit of in-formation and evidence for persons already convicted on death row.

Kitty is recipient of the "Buddy Bombet, Lifetime Achievement Award," and has been voted "NJ Investi-gator of the Year." In addition, she has earned the honor of numerous editor publisher awards in both NALI and several state associations. She is perhaps best known for codifying rules of Ethics for the profes-sion. Her volume (now in it's second edition) "Code of Professional Conduct; Standards and Ethics for the In-vestigative Profession" is the seminal standard in exis-tence today for investigators nationwide.

James Goldman was born in Miami Beach, Florida and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. He attended public schools and Northeastern University before serving with the United States Air Force.

In August of 1978, James began his career with the for-mer Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) as a Border Patrol Agent with the Service's Chula Vista Sec-tor in southern California. In 1984 he transferred to the New York District as a Special Agent. After a 3-year tenure in New York, James accepted a position as Senior Special Agent at INS Headquarters in Washington DC. As a Senior Spe-cial Agent in the nation's capital, he integrated efforts between INS and the Organized Crime Drug Enforce-ment Task Force's National Program. Mr. Goldman served 3 years in this capacity, cultivating and main-taining liaisons with various federal agencies, as well as a multitude of foreign governments. In April of 1990, James accepted a position as Supervisory Special Agent in the Boston District, where he developed strong supervisory and management skills, ultimately preparing him for his next position: Assistant District Director of Investigations at the Washington District. He served 6 years in this position before accepting the Assistant District Director of Investigations position in Miami, Florida. 4 years later, Mr. Goldman was offered the position of Interim District Director for the Miami District.

Throughout his Federal Law Enforcement tenure, James Goldman has been featured as a guest speaker and lecturer in numerous forums regarding various smuggling operations, both domestically and interna-tionally. His expertise has been featured on major media net-works like CNN , Discovery Channel and The History Channel . He was also awarded the Newton-Azrak Award for Heroism in recognition of his planning and extraction of Elian Gonzalez from the home of his rela-tives in Miami.

Andrew Froman, Esq is a partner in the Tampa law firm. Andrew has practiced employment law for over 17 years, on behalf of management, throughout Flor-ida and especially in Southwest Florida. He advises cli-ents on matters regarding discrimination, sexual har-assment, trade secrets, covenants against unfair com-petition, employment policies, workplace rules and employee handbooks. Mr. Froman has tried cases on behalf of employers in both federal and state courts, before juries, as well as in arbitration and administra-tive law courts. He represents clients in both the pri-vate and public sector, and in industries that include construction, manufacturing, sales, services and health care.

Paul Purcell is the co-owner, Vice President, and lead security analyst for InfoQuest In-vestigators in Atlanta, Georgia.

As an investigator, Paul created "The Case File", an in-the-field investigative case man-agement system in use by Private Investiga-tors, Law Enforcement, and Attorney firms across the country. He also served as the Legislative Committee chairman in 2002, and state Secretary in 2003, for the Georgia Association of Professional Private Investiga-tors (GAPPI)

As a post-9/11 contribution, Paul voluntarily submitted numerous vulnerability studies concerning the FAA, the CDC, the 2001 World Series Games, the 2002 Winter Olym-pics, and the 2002 Super Bowl. Copies of these studies were shared with an agent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and two weeks later, Paul was invited to join the DeKalb County Office of Homeland Security as a volunteer civilian security analyst. His duties included vulnerability studies of some of the county's sensitive infrastructure loca-tions, the contribution of terror attack sce-narios, and meeting attendance as a panel member at large.

During this same time period, he authored a regular civil-defense and homeland security issues column entitled "Paul's Corner" which appeared on Col. David H. Hackworth's "Sol-diers For The Truth" foundation website and he served as an SFTT board member from 2001 to 2005. Since the completion of his book, Paul has been traveling, lecturing, consulting, and continually contributing to public safety whether through counter-terrorism planning or pandemic influenza preparedness.

Dean Beers, CLI is a Certified Legal Investigator and consultant and investigative expert in criminal defense homicide and civil equivocal death inves-tigations. He is certified in Medicolegal Death In-vestigator and served as a forensic autopsy assis-tant. He has lectured and authored multiple arti-cles, peer-reviewed white papers, and provided expert testimony on private investigator proto-cols. He authored Professional Locate Investiga-tions and recently completed Practical Methods for Legal Investigations: Concepts and Protocols in Civil and Criminal Cases that is available now.

Mr. Beers is the Board Chairman of the Profes-sional Private Investigators Association of Colo-rado, Region 6 CLI Representative of the National Association of Legal Investigators and has a col-umn called Forensic Focus in The Legal Investiga-tor, NALI's trade magazine, Membership Chair of the National Council of Investigation and Security Services, Affiliate Consultant member of the Na-tional Association of Medical Examiners, and holds additional memberships in the World Asso-ciation of Detectives, International Association for Identification, and Mensa USA.

Caryn Baird has been a News Researcher for the St Petersburg Times since January of 1999. Her primary job is to verify the story that the re-porters have been told before they publish to make sure that they were told the truth. She also backgrounds candidates and gathers information for info boxes and time-lines. She has a BA from Wellesley College and a MS LIS from Simmons Col-lege

Jimmie Mesis began his career as a private

investigator after serving as a military transla-

tor in the United States Marine Corps. He be-

came a private investigator in 1979 and

quickly learned and mastered the art of find-

ing people and conducting surveillance on the

streets of New York City. Jimmie has been

recognized as an expert at finding people and

gained national recognition as a featured

investigator for the History Channel television

show, "Operation Reunion” There, Jimmie

located and reunited soldiers who had not

seen each other since the battlefields of Korea

and Vietnam. He later went on to be featured

in the FX television series, P.I. and as a guest

on various radio and television shows includ-

ing CNN’s Larry King Live. He is often quoted

by the Associated Press, USA Today, and many

other national media outlets. Each time, he

has represented the profession in an admira-

ble manner.

His career as a private investigator has been

uniquely diverse. He and Rosemarie, his inves-

tigator wife, own and run several investigative

related companies, including PI Magazine, the

only international trade magazine for private

investigators; PI bookstore.com, one of the

largest single source suppliers of discounted

investigation titled books; and PI Gear.com, a

discount supplier of investigative gear and

surveillance equipment for private investiga-

tors and law enforcement agencies. He cur-

rently serves as the Legislative Chairman and

Director for NCISS .

Albert Perrotti, Jr., CPP, CHS-V a life-long native of Tampa, retired in 2002 as a Major, after a 31 year career with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Florida. He is a graduate of the 129

th Session of the FBI National Acad-

emy, as well as, the Southern Police Institute Advanced Administrative Officer’s Course at the University of Louisville, KY.

He is, currently the Director for Corporate Security and Emergency Management for TECO Energy, Incorporated. In this role, Al is responsible for managing security programs and procedures and serves as the security consultant to all companies under TECO En-ergy. He has attained the coveted CPP (Certified Protection Professional) certifica-tion from ASIS International, as well as ob-tained a Level Five certification Homeland Security from the American College of Foren-sic Examiners Institute. He continues to rep-resent TECO as their chief liaison to law en-forcement agencies.

A board member for several organizations involved with public and private security, Al also has created courses in leadership and character development that have been incor-porated into various workshops and semi-nars.

Daniel O'Shea is the President of Daniel Risk

Mitigation and is an instructor for crisis manage-

ment courses related to kidnappings and hostage

situations. Dan O’Shea is a qualified Navy SEAL

officer and presently a Lieutenant Commander in

the US Naval Reserves. He voluntarily returned to

active duty following 9/11 and served at Special

Operations Command CENTRAL as a staff planning

and SOF Liaison officer to US CENTRAL Command

headquarters during the wartime planning and

execution of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF)

and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).

In addition to Mr. O'Shea's career as a Navy Seal

Officer, Mr. O'Shea was the Coordinator for the

Hostage Working Group (HWG) in Baghdad be-

tween July 2004 and April 2006. During his term

as Coordinator, Mr. O’Shea directly managed the

inter-agency response to more than 300 kidnap-

ping incidents that included the release of an

American journalist held captive for nine days and

an Irish journalist held hostage for 36 hours. Mr.

O'Shea was directly involved in every major inter-

national kidnapping case including murdered vic-

tims CARE International Director Margaret Hassan

and Christian Peacemaker Team (CPT) member

American Tom Fox; released journalists Italian

Guiliana Sgrena (Il Manifesto), Americans Micah

Garen (New York Times) and Jill Carroll (Christian

Science Monitor), and rescued hostages American

Roy Hallums, Australian Doug Woods, and the

surviving CPT members, Canadians James Loney,

Harmeet Sooden, and British citizen Norman Kem-

ber.

Discovery Channel program "Kidnap + Rescue"

the new TV series that will focus on the interna-

tional kidnapping industry, and the private investi-

gative companies and personalities involved in the

K&R and rescue business.

Adam Clarke is the Director of the Threat Man-

agement Group at Critical Intervention Services.

Prior to joining CIS, Mr. Clarke was the Director of

Security for a multi-media company based in New

York. Mr. Clarke has extensive experience in ex-

ecutive protection and estate security as well as

advance planning, travel, small and large venue

event security, threat management and related

investigations.

Mr. Clarke is an NRA Certified Police Handgun and

Shotgun Instructor and assists in Teaching the S2

Institutes Principles of Executive Protection and

Detail Operations Classes.

currently lives in Atlanta, Ga. She operates her

business, Gold Investigations, Inc. in both Flor-

ida and Georgia. She offers over 30 years of

investigative experience that started roaming

courthouses all over Florida and Georgia and

obtaining critical information. In this session,

Harriet will illustrate the importance of hands

on courthouse research in verifying and com-

plimenting database research. She will give

you ideas of how you can assist your client in

their investigative needs that will also help

you in your financial needs

Craig Gundry, CPS, CHS-V is Vice President of

Special Projects for Critical Intervention Ser-

vices (CIS), is Program Director for S2’s Anti-

Terrorism and WMD courses. Prior to joining

CIS, Mr. Gundry was the President of Palla-

dium Media Group, a company specializing in

training and consulting on explosive, chemi-

cal, and biological terrorism. Mr. Gundry's

expertise in anti-terrorism began as a special-

ist in force protection with the United States

Army.

In addition to his education at St. Petersburg

College, Mr. Gundry has received certification

as a Certified Protection Specialist (CPS)

through Executive Security International. Mr.

Gundry has also received additional training

in force protection, leadership, and intelli-

gence analysis via the U.S. Army. Mr. Gundry

is also Certified in Homeland Security (Level

III) by the American College of Forensic Exam-

iners International (ACFEI).

Mr. Gundry is the author of the acclaimed

Bomb Countermeasures for Security Profes-

sionals CD-ROM and a new book on assessing

terrorism-related risk. Mr. Gundry is also a

frequent consultant to the news media on

issues relating to terrorism and weapons of

mass destruction.

Special Agent Daniel O’Kelly earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University. From 1977 through 1988 he was a Police Officer for the City of Portage, Indiana. An ATF Agent since 1988, he was assigned to the Chicago Field Division from 1988 until 1996, after which he spent 5 years on staff at the ATF National Academy in Georgia, teaching firearm technology and Undercover Techniques. Since 2001 he has been as-signed to the Tampa Field Office. Having been a serious life-long student of firearm de-sign, history and manufacture, SA O’Kelly has been qualified as an expert witness in U.S. District Court on the topic of firearms since 1990. He was the lead in-structor of firearm technology for five years on staff at the ATF National Academy, and has taught several times at the International Law Enforcement Academies in Europe and Africa. He teaches firearm interstate nexus and testimony to ATF Agents at the ATF Firearm Tracing Center. Having been a firearm range instructor since 1981, in-cluding being a builder and collector of firearms and ammunition, he is a factory trained Armorer for nine gun companies. He has toured firearm and ammunition factories in the U.S., Europe and Africa, and regularly presents seminars on firearm enforcement to law en-forcement personnel in Florida.

K.C. Poulin is President and CEO of Critical Intervention

Services (CIS). Mr. Poulin has over 20 years experience in

the fields of law enforcement, security operations, threat

management, executive protection and public safety in high

crime communities. Poulin also has extensive experience in

the areas of critical incident management and anti-terrorism

operations.

Mr. Poulin leads the company in its business development

and growth efforts, pioneering innovative ideas to assist in

the security needs for organizations worldwide. Mr. Poulin,

along with California University at Pennsylvania professor

Charles Nemeth, is the author of the recently published

book Private Security and Public Safety: A Community-Based

Approach; as well as The Prevention Agency: A Public Safety

Model for High Crime Communities in the 21st Century,

which is set to release September 2004. Both books feature

a strategy for reclaiming and rehabilitating high crime com-

munities called the Community and Character Based Protec-

tion Initiative (CCBPI).This unique strategy, created by Mr.

Poulin, has received worldwide recognition from media out-

lets such as The Wall Street Journal, ABC World News To-

night with Peter Jennings, The O'Reilly Factor on FOX News,

Firearm ID – How to read a gun

The course prepares the attendee to safely han-

dle, properly identify, describe and testify in court,

about any firearm based on it’s markings, deter-

mining which are key, and which may be mislead-

ing. The attendee will be able to use this informa-

tion to determine a firearm’s maker, country of

origin and time period of manufacture. If time

permits, the explanation of the various types of

mechanical operation of firearms will also be

Cybersecurity 101 –

Computers Don't Commit Crimes - People Commit

Cybercrime. They say crime knows no zip code. It

could also be said that it knows no IP address. Inci-

dents of cybercrimes continue to increase and

more and more individuals and organizations are

being affected by it. The worst part is that studies

show that the odds are greater that the crime will

be performed by an insider to your network that

from someone trying to break into your network

from the outside. What is cybersecurity, what are

the laws that govern it and what can you do to

mitigate the odds of you or your client from being
