Dear Prospective Senate Page:

Thank you so much for your interest in being a part of legislative history by becoming a Florida Senate Page. This unique opportunity allows you to represent your community, have hands-on experience with the legislative process, and learn more about the everyday operations of the Florida Senate.

As a Senate Page, you will work closely with Senators and their legislative staff each day, learning more about the daily functions of running a district office. Senate Pages also participate in a “mock session,” in which students role-play as Senators who discuss, debate, and vote on legislation. Better yet, you and your fellow Senate Pages may even have the rare privilege to actually observe and assist Senators as they debate real legislation during a session sitting on the Senate floor.

In this booklet, you will find important information about the Senate Page Program, including more details on how to apply. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of the Senate Sergeant at Arms at (850) 487-5224 or (850) 487-5256.

Again, thank you for your interest in serving as a Florida Senate Page. I hope to see you around the halls of the Florida Senate.

Respectfully,

Joe Negron

Be a part of history! The Florida Senate gives interested young people the opportunity to observe and participate in the legislative process. During regular sessions of the Florida Legislature, participating students from across the state come to Tallahassee for one week to assist members of the Legislature in carrying out the work of the people. A one-week limit is set so that as many young people as possible have the opportunity to serve during the 60-day session.

During their assigned week, Senate Pages will assist members of the Florida Senate by distributing materials and messages, learn about the legislative process through a hands-on approach, and experience a "mock session" in which students role-play as Senators and engage in debating, discussing, and voting on legislation.

Under the supervision of the Senate Page Coordinator, pages will work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and will receive an hourly stipend that will be mailed two to three weeks after their service. Senate Pages will be responsible for their own transportation, housing, and meals while visiting the Capital City. Professional dress is required.

Each Senator has the opportunity to sponsor up to two pages, between the ages of 15-18, for one week during the 60-day regular session. Senators may also select alternate pages to serve on an as needed basis. Those interested in the Senate Page Program are encouraged to submit an application to their hometown Senator. Applications may be found at www.flsenate.gov/About/Opportunities. For regular sessions in odd-numbered years, applications will be available in late November of the preceding year. For regular sessions in even-numbered years, applications will be available in late August of the preceding year. For more information, contact the Senate Page Program Coordinator at (850) 487-5224 or (850) 487-5256.
