FloTHERM XT Release Highlights, ftxt3.0 1 December 2016

Introduction This document provides a high-level summary of the V3.0 release. It includes a summary of the

new features, any authorization code changes required, any major installation changes, and any

transitioning issues you should be aware of before installing.

This document is included as part of the installation and on SupportNet. Changes may be added

to this document after the release; please refer to the Release Highlights documents on

SupportNet for the most up-to-date release information.

New Features

V3.0 is a major update to V2.3.1, and includes a number of important functional improvements

and enhancements.

Key Functionality Enhancements

• Ability to model rotating geometry

o New Non Geometric Smart Part added to define rotating region.

o Two methods are supported:

Mixing Plane – restrictions apply on geometry and flow direction,

Sliding Mesh – any arbitrary geometry supported.

• Non-Linear heat source added to Thermal Attribute

o Power defined as function of temperature.

New Geometric Smart Parts

• Radial and Centrifugal Fans

New Non Geometric Smart Parts

• Rotation Region – see Key Functionality Enhancements.

• Surface Inflation Mesh – to set mesh controls over a region a certain distance from a

surface.

Display of Non Geometric Smart Parts in the main display area

• Access from tool bar button “Show Features” for whole model or right click on sub-

assembly to obtain a reduced view.

Use of Call outs to show and edit key values on Non Geometric Smart Parts

Highlight selectable components when setting up Non Geometric Smart Parts

• Faces which can be selected shown solid while the rest of the geometry is wireframe (this

can be configured on or off in XT Options).

Revised Mesh Settings at system and local levels

• Systems setting all collected together under a single Mesh Control property sheet.

• Ability to set and display Base Mesh.

• Local mesh settings revised.

Critical Component Temperature Graphical Display

• To extend the feature in Report Generation, components on a board transferred from

FloEDA Bridge can be colored in comparison to the junction and case temperatures

identified before transfer.

Create XY plots using geometry edges or sketches

• Exported to Excel.

Added Volume Goals

• Includes Solid Mass as an output.

Parametric Study

• Adding the ability to create a set of scenarios using Design of Experiments:

o User sets maximum and minimum values for input variables.

o Number of scenarios created to best cover the design space.

o Single point optimum created as an additional scenario.

• Response surface viewer developed to allow user to investigate variant from optimum

and effect of input variables in a graphical manner.

• Added the ability to send individual scenarios to remote computers for solving.

• Create image files for screen grab for all or selected scenarios.

Using XML file format to import model data into FloTHERM XT

• Gives the user the ability to interact with the set up a model outside the standard

interface:

o Schema information available with installation files.

• Partial set of model items available:

o Create an arbitrary extrusion based on a sketch / cut holes.

o Fully create cuboid and cylinder SmartParts with limited support for others.

o Create and attach PCB SmartPart.

o Create Network Assemblies.

o Attributes (material, thermal, ambient and fluid).

o Ability to add Radiation Surfaces and planar sources.

o Position objects within an assembly and sub-assemblies.

o Local mesh settings.

• Two file types supported:

o XTXMLA - Assembly detail imported into existing model.

o XTXMLP - Project level file.

FloEDA Bridge

• Thermal Territory - Create explicit representations of copper and dielectric in nominated

zones around components. All copper and dielectric inside that zone will be modelled

explicitly:

o Set Inflation Size in Property Sheet or drag handles.

o Set the number of layers to be explicitly modelled.

• Undo / Redo:

o Unlimited actions recorded.

o List of all recorded steps presented, the user can opt to Undo/Redo multiple steps

at once.

• Column added to show individual component powers with total presented at the top of

the tree.

• Component Icons that reflect model type.

• Tabbed property sheets:

o Component: Geometry.

o Thermal: Power and Modeling Data.

o Thermal Territory: Explicit Copper settings.

• Option to transfer all power modes to FloTHERM XT:

o Active Power Mode specified in the Board Assembly Property Sheet.

o Also available as an Input Variable for Parametric Study.
