First, a word from Tom Thayer, Immediate Past Flotilla Commander 3 6
Thanks from IPFC
I just want to wish you a HAPPY, PROSPEROUS, and HEALTHY NEW YEAR. For those that wonder what
IPFC stands for, it is Immediate Past Flotilla Commander. I want to express my thanks to all of the individuals
that contributed to the success of the Biggest and Best Flotilla over the last two years. While we had some
challenges and opportunities, you have risen to the task and performed brilliantly.
My only regret, if you can call it that, is the failure of some to report the activities that were done. Without
reporting nobody outside of our group knows that it was done. We can significantly improve Flotilla
performance simply by reporting. On group activities, please designate one individual to submit the 7030.
Everybody should submit a 7029 every month to report meeting attendance, travel time and mileage, if nothing
else.
Please give your full support to FC Bill and VFC Andrea. We are lucky to have this team to lead our Flotilla for
2011. If you have been rather inactive, please consider being more involved in 2011. The various Staff Officers
are listed in this “LOG”. I can assure you that they would appreciate your interest and help.
SOOOO, let’s get 2011 off to a roaring start.
It has been a pleasure serving you the past two years.

Flotilla Commander 3 6
I would like to thank Tom Thayer on behalf of our entire flotilla. He did an excellent job as our Flotilla
Commander and will continue to contribute to the success of our Flotilla. Tom, thanks from all of us.
I also hope that everyone had a safe and happy Holiday and New Years. We have a lot to accomplish in
2011 and I need the help of everyone and encourage you to participate in all of our functions.
January Flotilla Meeting
Our next scheduled monthly meeting is Thursday, January 6, 2011.
Don Fisher will be doing a presentation on the access to and use of the new 7029 Member Activity
Worksheet. This new online form makes it very easy for all members to report the hours for the activities
they are involved in.
Please plan on attending bring a guest. Uniform is Tropical Blue Long, ODU or civilian.
SAVE THESE DATES:
Flotilla 3-6 Change of Watch – Sat., Jan. 8 at Elk’s Club in Pompano
Hillsboro Lighthouse Tour – Sat., Jan. 8
Boat Crew Training 1900-2100 – Wed., Jan 12

The new 7029 is available in Beta e-form at www.Webforms.CGAux.Org . Don Fisher will be going over
how to use the form during our January Flotilla meeting. It is a living document that can be updated as you
get your hours and is submitted electronically monthly. It is imperative that we all submit the 7029 and get
credit for the work and hours we perform. This is one of the items measured by the Flotilla, and Division.
The Flotilla 3-6 Change of Watch is Saturday, January 8 at the Boca Raton Elk’s Lodge. Richie Dunn has
done an excellent job of putting this together. Price is $35/person with beverages at Elk’s member prices.
Please consider getting your reservation in to FSO-FN JoAnn Bordelon or to Richie for a fun time. Last
chance for reservations will be our January Flotilla meeting.

Vice Flotilla Commander
Happy 2011! I hope this year brings all our members a renewed sense of volunteerism and the resulting
inner rewards. I want to assure the Flotilla 36 members that I have pledged to serve you this year as Vice
Commander to the best of my ability. In my 18 years of CGAUX membership, I have had many top-notch
role models for this position, and I hope I can measure up to their levels of professionalism and
commitment.
Thank you to the staff officers who have agreed to take a leadership role this year, some for their second
year. Some for more years than that. Often we take the staff for granted, but each of these people has
agreed to attend additional meetings, complete reports, and monitor guidelines and activities in their areas.
It takes dedication to meet these responsibilities, and they deserve special acknowledgment.
If you have never had a staff position, I hope you step forward one day and learn how the Auxiliary really
works. In a volunteer organization, we count on everyone to take a turn at the wheel.
As the staff officers begin their duties, they will start by reviewing currency maintenance for special
qualifications. As you know, some qualifications require a minimum number of hours, activities, or
missions to stay current and qualified each year – this is called annual currency maintenance. You can help
out the staff by taking action early in the year to complete your currency requirements and give a boost to
our Auxiliary’s activities. If you have questions about how to stay current, please contact the appropriate
staff officer.
I appreciate your continued support this year, and together we’ll keep the flotilla moving forward.

We have 9 members who need to have this course as there 5 years are up- they are: Bob Hersey, Art
Zimmerman, Irene Azzaritto, Jim Godden, Joe Bordelon, Rick Bordelon, Ron Dillon and Tom Thayer.

Public Education
Ahoy from Public Education! Although we didn’t offer any PE courses in the month of December, it
was a busy month with Parades and other Holiday activities. With the start of 2011 we will be kicking
off our monthly “About Boating Safety” courses as well as “Weekend Navigator”. The 2011
brochures have been printed and are available in the brochure rack for everyone. I also printed a list of
class dates which is in my box for all interested. On Dec. 8th
, I had the privilege of marching in the
Boca Holiday Parade with some of our members. It was a fun filled evening! We certainly presented a
positive image of our Flotilla. So many people in the crowd cheered “Coast Guard” as we passed by.
Good Stuff!

Members Corner:
Thank you for the toys!
Thank you to all the generous people who donated toys and cash for the toy drive. The gifts were
delivered to the Achievement Center in Delray Beach, and several students helped put the toys in
“Santa’s Workshop.” You can see their smiles of anticipation! This organization serves over 600
income-qualifying children in our area. You helped make their Christmas a little brighter.

Santa wants to THANK all the Auxiliarists who contributed to making Christmas goodies for the crew
at Station Lauderdale. The Contributors on Santa’s extra nice list (in no particular order) are: Mike
Hanuschak, Celestino’s, Thompson’s, Lenny Schwartz, Connie Sprake, Weinbaum’s, Jeanette Smith,
Irene Azzarito, Bill Bartley, Rob Lambie, Neil Hennessey, Gary Belford, Jim Goldasich and
Rutherfoords.
On Christmas morning, five Flotilla 36 Auxiliarists loaded up a “watery sleigh” to deliver goodies to
Station Lauderdale. Mr. and Mrs. Clause (Mark and Marie Thompson) along with trusty elves (Rob
Lambie and Tom and Andrea Rutherfoord), arrived at the dock and delivered about a million calories
of beautifully baked and packaged Christmas goodies to the mess hall. Thank you to all the Flotilla 36
members who spent so much time and money to provide a little extra cheer to the staff on duty at the
Station
