Flowers out of common house items 1. Use coloured carboard or pipe cleaners to make the stem and leaves of your flowers. Plant leaves have a large surface area that absorbs sunlight. The sunlight is turned into energy that lets the plant eat and grow. This is called photosynthesis. 2. Glue the stem and leaves to a piece of paper. Cut out a circle and place it at the top of the stem. This is the center of your flower. It contains the reproductive system of your plant. Most flowers contain both male and female parts. 3. Using common house hold items, glue petals around the center of your flower. You can use Q- tips, pasta, or parts of an egg carton! Can you think of any other items that could be used as flower petals? 4. Add colours to your petals! Flowers are often bright colours. This attracts insects, who help the flowers reproduce. 1. Use coloured carboard or pipe cleaners to make the stem and leaves of your flowers. Plant leaves have a large surface area that absorbs sunlight. The sunlight is turned into energy that lets the plant eat and grow. This is called photosynthesis.

2. Glue the stem and leaves to a piece of paper. Cut out a circle and place it at the top of the stem.

This is the center of your flower. It contains the reproductive system of your plant. Most flowers contain both male and female parts.

3. Using common house hold items, glue petals around the center of your flower. You can use Q-tips, pasta, or parts of an egg carton! Can you think of any other items that could be used as flower petals?
