God Is a Rewarder! This month as we celebrate Mother’s Day, I can’t help but think of my own mom, Mrs. oretha Hagin. She went home to be with the Lord on June 28, 2007, but I thank God for her and the godly example she set in our home. I learned as much from watching her and how she lived as I did from what she said to me.

By her example Mom taught me endurance. She faced many hardships in the early years of my dad’s ministry, but she never complained. and she never allowed my sis and me to complain either. She’d say, “Kids, don’t worry about the sacrifice. If we’ll stay true to God’s call, we’ll be blessed in the end.” Mom taught me to stay put in the hard place. She taught me that you don’t start something and quit—no matter how hard it gets. you endure, and you finish!

another hallmark of Mom’s life was faithfulness. There were a lot of lonely hours for her when Dad was out on the road—a lot of responsibilities and decisions to make. But she always stayed faithful to God. She’d say to me, “Son, life is not always fair. But if you’ll do right and live for God, He will reward you.” I can still hear her voice ringing with those words—words that have kept me steady through many difficult times.

although Mom made sacrifices in the ministry, one of the most important things she taught me was how wonderful it is to serve God—no matter what. She knew that there is nothing more important in life than doing the will of God. and she’d say, “If God calls, He’s faithful to provide.” She was right! I watched God come through for us time and time again.

There is a price to be paid for following God—just as there is a price to be paid to be a good athlete or musician. But as Mom always said, “God’s grace is greater than any price you have to pay.”

celebrate the moms in your life this month. and remember, as my mom taught me, God is a rewarder! He will always come through for you.

Lynette and I once visited Victoria Falls on our way from a crusade in Zambia to meetings in Botswana. We were there during the wet season when the water cascades over the falls in a vast, unbroken expanse. During that time of year, you see the maximum flow of water, and what an amazing sight it was! The mist from the falls was so thick, it felt as if we were in a soaking rainstorm.

As I stood amazed at the abundance of water flowing over those cliffs, I had a revelation: God wants us to experience the same kind of overflowing abundance in our lives that I witnessed at Victoria Falls!

We can have the maximum flow of God’s blessings and enjoy fullness of life greater than what we have ever imagined. God wants us to experience life in abundance. It’s the very reason Jesus came to the earth.

In John 10:10 Jesus said, “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows) (Amplified).

Unfortunately, too many Christians are not enjoying the over-flowing abundance that this verse talks about. But what many Christians don’t realize is that it’s really up to them as to how much blessing from God they enjoy.

Some Christians are enjoying God’s abundance, but they’re not experiencing the overflowing abundance that John 10:10 talks about. Others are at the bottom of the barrel, so to speak. They’re barely making ends meet. And some have come up a little from that point, but they’ve become satisfied with the status quo.

Although there is never a shortage of God’s resources, there is often a shortage of faith on our part in understanding His goodness. And to experience this goodness, we have to renew our minds and develop a mentality of abundance. Until we know it’s God’s will for us to live above life’s limits, we won’t. Here are just a few scriptures that show us how God wants us to live.

psalM 23:1 (niv 1984)1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

psalM 37:4 (niv 1984)4 Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.

dEutEronoMY 8:18 (niv 1984)18 Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant.

provErbs 10:22 (niv 1984)22 The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.

psalM 37:25 (niv 1984)25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.

God’s Prosperity Plan

1

2

God desires that we “prosper in all things and be in health, just as [our] soul prospers” (3 John 2 NKJV). The mind is part of the soul. So this verse indicates that we must prosper in our minds to experience God’s blessings. And we prosper in our minds by renewing them with God’s Word. Here is a seven-point prosperity plan drawn from His Word.

Biblical prosperity is more than money. 3 John 2; Ps. 23 // God doesn’t want us to lack anything.

Poverty and lack are a curse, not a blessing. Deut. 28:47–48; Prov. 13:18 // It’s up to us to use our au-thority in Christ to combat lack and poverty.

God will prosper us so we can bless others. Deut. 16:17; 2 Cor. 9:6–12 // God is looking for people who are willing to give. If He can get it through us, He’ll get it to us.

Operating in God’s laws of sowing and reaping will open the doors of prosperity for us. Phil. 4:15–19; Gal. 6:6–10 // If we give God what we have in our hands, He will give us what He has in His. And His hands have a lot more in them than what our hands can hold!

God’s prosperity often comes through our employment. Prov. 14:23; 2 thess. 3:10 // God will bless whatever we put our hand to. But if we’re doing nothing, God has nothing to bless.

We can’t live in sin and expect to have prosperity. Prov. 28:13; Jer. 5:25 // It’s obvious that we can’t blatantly sin and expect to be blessed. But it’s also the “little foxes” that keep God’s abun-dance from flowing to us.

Exercising faith in God’s Word will empower us to walk in prosperity. 2 Chron. 20:20; Joshua 1:8 // We receive prosperity the same way we are born again—by faith.

The more we study along these lines, the more we will know that God’s supply can never be exhausted. And the more our faith is built up in this area, the more we’ll start talking abundance.

Some people talk only about what they don’t have and what they can’t do. They talk about how little they have and how they’re always coming up short. In essence, they’ve become POWs—prisoners of their words! It’s no wonder that that’s all they experience in their lives.

But if we’ll get our eyes off the limitations and onto the promises of God, we won’t be in bondage to lack any-more. We won’t be sick—we’ll walk in health. We won’t live in fear—we’ll enjoy the peace that passes all under-standing. We’ll experience the overflowing abundance that God wants all of His children to enjoy.

Whatever situation you’re facing, God has promised that you win (2 cor. 2:14)! He has promised you an abundant life—if you’ll only believe (John 10:10).

Proverbs 3:5–6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Verse 6 in the New Century Version says, “Re-member the Lord in all you do, and he will give you success.” Verse 7 goes on to say, “Don’t depend on your own wisdom.

no matteR what is going on around us, faith never gives up. It always steadfastly believes. It doesn’t matter if we’ve sunk in the mud up to our chin and can barely breathe. Faith says, “I’m com-ing out. Through Christ, I’m victorious.”

But all too often when we start sinking, instead of standing strong, we begin questioning. “Why, Lord?” “When, Lord?” And God is saying back to us, “Believe. Only believe. All things are possible to those who believe” (Mark 9:23).

Strong faith will get us through any situation. The question is, how do we develop faith that never gives up? It’s not that hard. The answer is found in Romans 10:17: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing, and hearing, and hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” You may be thinking, “Your Bible has a lot more ‘hearings’ in it than mine does.” Not really. In the Greek,

the word translated hearing signifies continuous action. Faith, therefore, is developed by hearing something again and again and again. Just because we’ve heard something one time doesn’t mean we have faith.

This is where people often miss it. Once they’ve heard a message on something, they think they’ve got it. Then the next time the minister preaches on that subject, they turn their hearing off. They may be sitting in church and looking directly at

the minister, but they aren’t hearing a word that is being said. They think, “I know this. I’ve heard that before.”

However, when we look at their lives, we can see that they’re sick, their needs aren’t met, and they’re in turmoil. Although they’ve heard the Word, they’re not living it. They might “know” the Word, but they’re not doing it. That Word has never dropped

Listen to This . . . Again!According to Webster’s New World Dictionary, faith is “unquestioning belief.” From this definition we can see that anytime we begin asking when, how, or why, we are no longer in faith. Faith never wonders whether something will happen.

8 THE WORD OF FAITH // May ‘12

Page 9:  · flowing abundance that this verse talks about. But what many Christians don’t realize is that it’s really up to them as to how much blessing from God they enjoy. Some Christians

down into their hearts or they wouldn’t have the problems they’re having.

Faith is the foundation of our belief system. And how firm our foundation is depends on how deep it’s been dug. Have you ever noticed that when a skyscraper is being built, the foundation goes deep into the ground? The taller the building, the deeper the foundation.

Jesus told the story of two men—one who built his house on a rock and another who built his house on the sand. When the storm came, the house built on the sand couldn’t withstand the pounding of the wind and the waves. Only the house built on the rock was able to weather the storm. (See Matthew 7:24–27.)

The same is true in our lives. When we dig deep into the Word of God and continually get it into our hearts, we’ll

be able to stand no mat-ter what happens. God’s Word is our rock, and it doesn’t roll when the storms of life buffet us. It is our firm foundation.

That’s why it’s so im-portant for us to continually build our faith. Whether we hear God’s Word preached, or read and study the Bible for ourselves, or listen to recorded sermons, it’s vital that we feed constantly on the Word.

I have certain CDs and DVDs that I like to play again and again. The messages really inspire me and I listen to them a lot. I especially like to pull them out when I’m go-ing through a hard time. They lift me up and encourage me when I’m tempted to quit.

Stuff comes at us all the time. That’s why it’s so important to continually hear the Word—even if we’ve heard it before. It’s really the only way to always be strong in faith.

The more we hear and hear and hear the Word, the stronger we’ll be when the devil’s attacks come. So when we hear someone

minister one more time on a familiar subject, let’s not turn a deaf ear. If we’ll listen with an open ear, the Lord will show us some-thing we didn’t know that will be a key to our victory.

cONsidEr: In what areas is your faith strong? What areas need some work? What are you doing about it?

don’t live with sickness any longer! God wants you well, and through Jesus He has provided the healing you need. Allow the Word to bring life and strength to your body as you discover not only how to receive your healing, but how to keep it.

10 THE WORD OF FAITH // May ‘12

Page 11:  · flowing abundance that this verse talks about. But what many Christians don’t realize is that it’s really up to them as to how much blessing from God they enjoy. Some Christians

god didn’t just run you through a cookie cutter. He took the time to mold you spe-cial. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, cre-ated in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” you are His workman-ship! and you were created in christ Jesus for good works that He prepared ahead of time for you to walk in.

God had a plan for you before you were ever born! In fact, Jeremiah 29:11 says that the Lord is thinking about you. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” The Amplified Bible reads, “For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.”

God is not only thinking about you, but He has good plans for you that involve faith, peace, and an expected end. The great thing about God is that whEn hE givEs You a plan, hE also givEs You thE gift-ing, abilitY, and anointing to carrY that thing out.

Ephesians chapter 4 says that with every gift God gives you, He gives you the grace to ful-fill it. and as Jeremiah chapter 29 says, that grace and faith—those thoughts and plans—are not just for when you start out. They are to carry you all the way to your expected end. In other words, God expects you to fulfill what He called you to do. He wants you to fulfill your dreams.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve messed up. Romans 11:29 says that “the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” God can still use you! No mat-ter what comes your way, He created you to win. He did not create you to fail. hE didn’t givE You a drEaM—a plan—for You to MaKE it onlY halfwaY. If you’ll hook up with Him, He’ll begin to work in your life and you’ll accomplish what He has called you to do.

Don’t let the devil steal the plan of God from you. Remember, John 10:10 says that the thief comes to steal, kill, and de-stroy. There’s nothing the devil likes more than to nullify the wit-ness of Jesus christ in your life. He’s out to steal the dreams of God—the plans and purposes of God. He wants to stop you from running the race. He’s trying to steal your expectations.

But the second half of John 10:10 says that Jesus came so we can “have and enjoy life,

and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)” (ampli-fied). That’s God’s plan for you. He wants you to have so much of His life, so much of His plan, so much of His purpose, and so much of His passion that you’re enjoying life and affecting ev-erybody around you. hE wants Your lifE to bE such a blEssing that pEoplE want thE jEsus You sErvE.

Do you want the dreams of God—the plan of God—to burn in you today? Stir up that “inner fire” on the inside (2 Tim. 1:6 amplified). Get in the Word, stay with the Word, and refuse to let hard times, persecutions, or the distractions of this age come in. Then you’ll have God’s thoughts. you’ll have His plans and passion, and you’ll begin to do what He had planned for you all along._____________[Editor’s Note: This article was adapted from Darrell Huffman’s Monday night message at Camp-meeting 2011.]

at Campmeeting 1989 Kenneth E. Hagin was ministering when he saw in the spiritual realm a brown-skinned man wearing a white turban ap-pear in front of the pulpit. The man in the vision told Brother Hagin that he was from Northern India and said the enemy was trying to hinder a move of God in his area. He was asking for help.

Narhari and Lata Thorat, both 1991 graduates of Rhema Bible Training Center USA, believe they are part of God’s answer to that request even though they almost didn’t attend Rhema.

Narhari was ac-tively involved with a denominational Christian organiza-tion in India and was contemplating work-ing with them for 10 more years until his retirement. The director of the organization told him Kenneth Hagin Ministries was a cult. But the couple’s son, Vinny, was a stu-dent at Rhema Bible Training Center at the time and was praying for his parents to attend Rhema.

Narhari said he would pray about it as well. One month later he made the decision to attend Rhema.

Both Narhari and Lata loved attending Rhema Bible Training Center. “We have been very blessed through Rhema and we cannot express what Rhe-ma has done for us,” Narhari said. “We thank God that in His providence He gave us this opportunity. We would be locked up in one place instead of do-ing what God would have us do.”

While the Thorats were in school, Vinny began talking to them about starting a Bible school in India. Af-ter much prayer and consideration, Nar-hari and Lata agreed that starting a Bible school was their next step. Little did they know that Vinny would never see it come to pass.

Narhari and Lata graduated on May 17,

1991. Two weeks later the Thorats were leaving Tulsa for India with a layover in Washington, D.C. Vinny, who had been complaining of headaches, helped them pack and told them goodbye at the airport. When the Thorats arrived in Washington, they were met by a Rhema graduate who lived in the area. He told them their son was very sick and helped them book a return flight to Tulsa.

When they arrived, they were told the reason behind Vinny’s headaches. There was a tumor on his brain stem. Because Vinny was in severe pain, doctors attempted to operate on him. But when

they did, the tumor burst and he died instantly.

After dealing with the tragedy of losing and

burying a son, the Thorats didn’t sulk or

blame God. They did exactly what they believed God was calling them to do: start a Bible

school in India.“God brought us here to this region to fulfill this plan,” Lata

said. “This is not Vinny’s vision. This is not the Thorats’ vision. It is God’s vision. Since 1991 when we started until now, we have seen God’s hand in all the work we have done.”

“We started with 40 graduates in our charter class,” Nar-hari said. “That was in 1992. From 1992 until 2011, the total comes to 2,598 graduates. We have graduates placed in all 28 states in India. This message of faith is reaching all over India. We also have graduates in four other countries: Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, and Nigeria.”

And those graduates are making a difference. Not only are they getting people saved, delivered, and filled with the Holy Spirit, they are seeing miracles in abundance. Graduates have reported people being healed of cancer and heart conditions, and even being raised from the dead. In their church alone, the Thorats have seen nearly 600 healings and other miracles in the last two years.

When Brother Hagin had his vision in 1989, he and the congregation prayed, “We agree that this word shall be unhin-dered . . . and that there shall come a great move of the Spirit of God in India. The seed that has been planted and the seed that shall continue to be planted and the seed that shall be watered will bring forth a bountiful harvest.”

Looks as if their prayers are being answered.

“I was 56 years old when I came to rhema Nagpur, India. Before I became a student, I was not bold enough to pray and I did not know how to preach. At rhema, the instructors taught me the things that I was lacking in my life. I received new revelation of the Word of God, and I am very much blessed with all the teachings from all the instructors. I came to rhema as nothing, and one day was meditating on John 2:7 where Jesus told the servants to fill the empty jars with water. The teachers at rhema are the servants of God and they are filling up empty jars (students) with water (the Word of God and the Holy Spirit). I now can boldly say that I am totally changed because of the teaching I received at rhema. Glory to God!” // PA U L C . P r A b H A k A r // r H E M A N A G p u r , I N D I A G r A D u AT E

Don’t BlAme god

narhari and lata thorat experienced a terrible loss when their son, Vinny, went home to be with the lord as a young man. But they didn’t harbor resentment toward god. although they were saddened and grieved over Vinny’s death, they didn’t turn their backs on god and walk away.

have you experienced a tragedy that you’re blaming on god? you need to understand that god didn’t cause it. Jesus said in John 10:10 (nkJV), “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come

that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Are you angry at god? Have you turned your back on Him and walked away? well, it’s time to come back. He is waiting on you with open arms.

pray the following prayer:

God,please forgive me for blaming you for some-thing that wasn’t your fault. please also for-give me for everything else i’ve done wrong. thank you for send-ing your Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for my sins. i accept him now as my lord and Savior.

What Happens When the net Works“Rhema is a network. When a net works, it has strands and it has knots, and they’re all important. If you take a knot out of the way, you’ll have a hole in the net. It will start to unravel. If you take one of the strands out, you’ll have a hole. and the fish will be able to go through the hole and get out. Jesus told Peter to ‘launch out into the deep and let down your nets’ (Luke 5:4). He caught so many fish that he signaled for his partners to come and help. This is a picture of the Body of christ functioning together. But it is also a picture of the Rhema net. Every person involved in Rhema in some way is functioning in their place. and together we are gathering in the end-time harvest.” // KennetH W. Hagin

Knowing him“To live victoriously, the most important thing we need to do in life is know the father. But this doesn’t happen instantly. We can’t get to know Him microwave-style. It takes time to develop a relationship, and God is saying, ‘I’m going to put you in the crock-Pot until you’re filled with My power, strength, and might.’ Then no matter what we face, we won’t give up, stress out, or fall down. Because when we know God, there is nothing that can keep us from our calling!” // lynette Hagin

heRe IS a chaLLenge from a covenant-keeping God to Is-rael under the Old Covenant to plead their case with Him. How much more, then, is it His challenge to the Church today!

isaiah 43:25–2625 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.26 Put me in remembrance: LET US PLEaD ToGETHER: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.

come Boldly to the throneFirst, God said, “I am He who blots out your transgressions,

and I will not remember your sins.” Thank God for that! As a believer, you can confess your sins and you will be cleansed of all unrighteousness by the blood of Jesus (1 John 1:9).

God has no knowledge that you ever did anything wrong. Do you see what confidence that gives you? When you under-stand that fact, you can come to the Lord without a sense of sin-consciousness. You can come with faith and boldness and get your prayer heard and answered.

As long as a person comes to the Lord in prayer under condemnation and with a sense

of spiritual inferiority, though, he will be tongue-tied and fear-filled in His Heavenly Father’s presence. And he will be hindered from receiving answers to his prayers. For instance, many times when people pray, they say, “I don’t know if the Lord will hear me, because I’ve missed it and failed. I’m such a failure!”

If you’ve confessed your sin to Him, God doesn’t know you are a failure, so don’t tell Him you are. He plainly said in Isaiah 43:25, “I will not remember your sins.” Since He doesn’t remember your past sins and failures, don’t you remember them either. Instead, come with confidence and boldness before the throne of grace, knowing that you have been made the righteousness of God by the precious blood of Jesus (Heb. 4:16; 2 Cor. 5:21).

Put him in rememBranceSecond, God said, “PUT ME IN REMEMBRANCE: let us plead

together: declare thou [or set forth thy cause], that thou mayest be justified” (Isa. 43:26).

What does it mean to put God in remembrance? It means that as a covenant believer, you can stand before the throne of God when you pray and remind Him of His promises. You can lay your case

the believer today has covenant rights just as much as the old testament saints did. In fact, the Bible says we have a better covenant established upon better promises (Heb. 8:6). Because of that, we ought to be able to do all they did and more.

legally before Him and plead your case as a lawyer would plead his case before a judge.

A lawyer is continually bringing up law and legal precedent. In the same way, you should bring God’s Word to His attention. That’s what He is inviting you to do in Isaiah 43:26. So put Him

in remembrance. Lay your case before Him and plead your cov-enant rights as His child using the legal precedence of His Word.

If you need healing, if your children are unsaved—whatever it is you are praying about—find scriptures that cover your case. Then lay the matter before your Heavenly Father. As you stand on the Word and plead your case based on His promises, He will work on your behalf.

the Word Will not return VoidIsaiah 55:11 is an important scripture you should continually

use in prayer as you stand on God’s Word: “So shall MY WORD be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it SHALL NOT RETURN UNTO ME VOID, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

This verse should be the very backbone of your prayer life. No word that has gone forth from God can return unto Him without accomplishing the purpose for which He sent it!

God said, “I will hasten my word to perform it” (Jer. 1:12). A marginal note in my King James Version reads, “I will watch over My Word to perform it.”

These scriptures are in perfect harmony with John 15:7, where Jesus said, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”

Hallelujah! As a partner, a worker-together with God, you can lay your case before Him. You can call His attention to His part in your life. And because His Word abides in you, you can ask according to that Word and receive answers to your prayers. God will make His Word good if you dare to stand by it!_____________[Editor’s Note: This article was adapted from Kenneth E. Hagin’s book Classic Sermons.]

God is calling for those who will

Kenneth E. Hagin helps us

and stirs us up to pray as never

before.

Praying for Our Nation“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

— 1 t i m o t H y 2 : 1 – 2

It is up to you and me to exercise our authority over the devil, especially when it comes to praying for our country. Evil spir-its try to dominate nations. And if left unchecked, they will dominate governments. If we let up for a moment and quit interceding and praying for our nation, these evil spirits will creep in and take over. it’s uP to us as born-aGain believers to Drive baCk the forCes of Dark-ness throuGh Prayer. That is why paul told us to pray for kings and those who are in authority. When we do, we will live peaceful and quiet lives.

President abraham Lincoln wrote the following in his letter to a mother whom he was told had lost five sons during the civil War. His words could easily be spoken today to those whose loved ones have sacrificed their lives for their country.

Dear Madam . . . I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should at-tempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tender-ing to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

MEMorial daY was first callEd dEcoration daY. The first large ob-servance was held on May 30, 1868, at arlington National cemetery. However,

local springtime tributes to the civil War dead already had been held in various places. one of the first occurred in co-lumbus, Mississippi, on april 25, 1866, when a group of women visited a ceme-tery to decorate the graves of confeder-ate soldiers who had fallen in battle at Shiloh. Nearby were the graves of Union soldiers, neglected because they were the enemy. Disturbed at the sight of the bare graves, the women placed some of their flowers on those graves as well.

To ensure the sacrifices of america’s fallen heroes are never forgotten, in December 2000 congress passed and the president signed into law “The Na-tional Moment of Remembrance act.” at 3 p.M. local tiME on MEMorial daY, all aMEricans arE Encour-agEd to pausE wherever they are for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation.

The flag should be briskly run up to the top of the staff before being lowered slowly to the half-staff position. at noon it should be raised briskly to the top of the staff until sunset, in honor of the nation’s battle heroes._____________[Editor’s Note: Some items on this page have been adapted from information provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. www.va.gov/opa/speceven/memday/]

In Flanders FieldsIn Flanders fields the poppies blowBetween the crosses, row on row,That mark our place; and in the skyThe larks, still bravely singing, fly.Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days agoWe lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glowLoved, and were loved, and now we lieIn Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:To you from failing hands we throwThe torch; be yours to hold it high.If ye break faith with us who dieWe shall not sleep, though poppies growIn Flanders fields.

This poem, written in 1915 by Lt. col. John Mccrae, a canadian army surgeon, prompted the idea of using artificial poppies to remem-ber those who died in battle during World War I. In 1922 the Veterans of foreign Wars adopted the poppy as its official memorial flower, and veterans eventually began assembling them. Today, veterans at Va medical facilities and veterans homes help assemble the poppies, which are distributed by veterans service or-ganizations throughout the country. Donations received have helped countless veterans and their widows, widowers, and orphans through the years. The poppy continues to serve as a tribute to those who have given their lives for the nation’s freedom.

We Remember . . . MEMORIAL DAY IS A DAY of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. For many people, Memorial Day is just another day off. But for those who have lost loved ones in mili-tary action, it’s a whole lot more. As our patriotic duty, every American should honor those who have spilled their blood to make America free and strong. Because men and women have died, we have the right today to preach the Word of God freely, to live at peace in our homes, and to pursue peace, prosperity, and happiness. Thank God for those who died to make us free! // K E N N E t h W. h a G i N

This month we set aside a day to honor our mothers. A survey conducted among children showed that they would choose the love and approval of their mothers over money, fame, or possessions. George Washington said, “My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am, I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual, and physical education I received from her.”

Signs held up at football games show us that moms must be pretty important. I have never seen a “Hi Dad” sign; they always read, “Hi Mom.” Our influence as mothers gives us an awesome responsibility.

Unfortunately, there is no course on motherhood that will totally prepare you for its joys, challenges, heartaches, and laughter. In His plan, God created the father as the head of the home, but the mother is certainly its heart. Here is how the Bible describes a virtuous woman.

Proverbs 31:10–31 (NLT)Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious

than rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.

She finds wool and flax and busily spins it. She is like a merchant’s ship, bringing her food from afar. She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day’s work for her servant girls.

She goes to inspect a field and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard. She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. She makes sure her dealings are profitable; her lamp burns late into the night.

Her hands are busy spinning thread, her fingers twisting fiber. She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy. She has no fear of winter for her household, for everyone has warm clothes.

She makes her own bedspreads. She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns. Her husband is well known at the city gates, where he sits with the other civic leaders. She makes belted linen garments and sashes to sell to

the merchants.

She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness.

Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!”

Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

Wow, what a job description! No wonder the old saying goes, “Man may work from sun to sun, but woman’s work is never done.” It seems there is always a task at hand that only a mother can accomplish. When you have a problem, mother knows how to solve it. Mother is the person who can divide her love among many children and still give each child all her love.

A mother inspires her children to be better than they are—whether with a pat on the back when things go right or a hug when things go wrong. A mother helps put the pieces back together, whether they are of a broken doll, a broken date, or a broken relationship. No job on earth takes more physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual strength than being a good mother.

Mothers, I want you to ponder an important question: are you being the “Proverbs 31 woman”? If I asked your children their opinion of you today, would they say as Proverbs 31:28 (NLT) states, “Her children stand and bless her”? We as mothers need to recognize the powerful influence we have on our children. The home is the greatest theological seminary in the world. Our children will learn more about God there than anywhere else.

We don’t really have to say much to teach children about God. Our attitude and deeds at home and the values we live by all teach our children how important God is to us. It is very important that we as mothers become godly examples to our children. The best way to point them to God is to surround them with the love that we have discovered from Him. My father-in-law used to tell parents, “Always surround your children with faith and love.” Faith and love will always lead your children into a victorious life.

First Corinthians 3:9 says “For we are labourers [workers] together with God.” So, what does that mean? I t means that there is work WE do combined with work GOD does that gets the job done! In other words,

God has a part to play and we have a part to play. Just think what a mess things would be in if God couldn’t find people who would work WITH Him to get the job done! God gave David strength and courage to fight Goliath, but David still had to sling the stone. God made the walls of Jericho fall, but Joshua and the people of Israel had to do their part by walking around the city and letting out a shout. And the list goes on and on of times when God worked together with man to accomplish His plan. This still holds true today! GOD’S PART is to give you salvation, but you have to CONFESS AND BELIEVE (Rom. 10:9–10) in order to receive it. . . . That’s YOUR PART! GOD’S PART is to provide you with healing, but you’ve got to have faith (Matt. 9:22) to receive it. . . . That’s YOUR PART! God is always willing to do HIS PART. . . . Will you do YOUR PART?See if you can match the GOD PART to the MAN PART of the stories below along with THE MAN whom God worked with.
