Have a good look at the front cover…

Have a chat with your child and ask them what they think the story might be about? What characters are in the story and where is the story set, is it in the town or country?

Goat - An animal that has horns and has hooved feet.

Valley – A flat piece of land between ranges of hills or mountains. Troll - A supernatural creature of Scandinavian folklore, portrayed as a friendly or mischievous dwarf.Big - Large in size.Medium - Middle size when compared with things that are larger and smaller.Small - Normal smaller than other objects. Size - How big or small something is.

Literacy

This week we look at family member in particular siblings, the vocabulary of brother and sister. In the story, we can see that the three main characters are brothers of different ages and size.

Discuss with your child, about having a sibling or cousin that is older or younger. What are other families do they have?

My brother is older than me and he is taller than me too.

My granny is older than me, but she is likes to dance.

Maths

For Maths this week, we are going to focus on shapes in the environment. I wonder if you can find different sized round objects in your home.Can you find objects that are round in your home or local environment?

The word round is used to explain the shape circle.

This week is also ‘mathsweek’ London. Here is an additional fun activity to do:

Shapes and patterns can be found all around us – from flowers to footballs, seashells to staircases. In this activity,

simple lines drawn on bottle tops or jam jar lids provide a fun way into the wonderful world of geometry.

See what amazing patterns you can make.

Expressive arts and design

Using a variety of paper, materials, milk carton tops to make a collage of circles. Layer the paper on top each other and make an interesting art piece. Have fun with this activity, using materials of different textures makes it interesting.

Name practise – please also use this time to practise name writing with your child every day. We thought today you can have some good fun making you name with wooden or plastic letters, see the picture below.
