Nursery home learning week 10 Thursday 18 h June 2020 Phonics This week we would like you to focus on single sounds and frequently used words. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B26pvQTlT54Na1BndVZWdVlZLTg/edit The link will take you to the game below or use the copies at the bottom of this document. How to play this game: How to prepare: Each student gets a list of letters and sight words. (I copy these onto colored paper) Each student gets 4 trolls. (I keep the trolls on white paper) Have the students cut out the trolls, letters, and sight words and place them in a brown paper bag. Give each student one page with the bridge, goats, and troll on it. (This is their game board) How to play: Students play with a partner. Player 1 picks out 1 piece of paper from their brown paper bag (no peaking!). Player 1 has to say the letter or read the word. If they get it correct, they place it on their bridge. If they do not know what it is, they place it back in their bag. (I have them ask their partner for help before they put it back in the bag. That way if they pick it again, they will hopefully remember what it is.) Player 2 picks out 1 piece of paper from their brown paper bag (no peaking!).

The link will take you to the game below or use the copies at the bottom of this document.

How to play this game:

How to prepare:Each student gets a list of letters and sight words. (I copy these onto colored paper)Each student gets 4 trolls. (I keep the trolls on white paper)Have the students cut out the trolls, letters, and sight words and place them in a brown paper bag.Give each student one page with the bridge, goats, and troll on it. (This is their game board)

How to play:Students play with a partner.Player 1 picks out 1 piece of paper from their brown paper bag (no peaking!).Player 1 has to say the letter or read the word. If they get it correct, they place it on their bridge. If they do not know what it is, they place it back in their bag. (I have them ask their partner for help before they put it back in the bag. That way if they pick it again, they will hopefully remember what it is.)Player 2 picks out 1 piece of paper from their brown paper bag (no peaking!).Player 2 has to say the letter or read the word. If they get it correct, they place it on their bridge. If they do not know what it is, they place it back in their bag. They continue taking turns picking 1 paper out of the bag at a time.If a player picks the troll, they have to put ALL of the piece on their bridge back in the bag.-The first player to get their bridge full is the WINNER!This link is to help you (parents/ carers) with the sounds so that you are sounding them in the same way we do at school https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwJx1NSineE

Reading

Have a look at this page in the story.

“Who goes trip-trap over my bridge?” growled the troll from under the bridge. “It’s only me, little Billy Goat Gruff,” said the smallest goat.

What goat is crossing in the bridge? How do you know this is the …… goat? Can you remember what happens next in the story?

Key vocab to focus on:

Goat - An animal that has horns and has hooved feet. Valley – A flat piece of land between ranges of hills or mountains. Troll - A supernatural creature of Scandinavian folklore, portrayed as a friendly or mischievous dwarf.Big - Large in size.Medium - Middle size when compared with things that are larger and smaller.Small - Normal smaller than other objects. Size - How big or small something is.

We look forward to seeing the photos of your story telling.

Can you try to write some on the words relating to the story? Such as goat, bridge, big, small, river.

Maths

Here are some ideas for sorting items into the three categories of ‘small’, ‘medium’ and ‘large’.

Heres a little story/clip that help children to understand sorting by size.

Understanding of the world

Use your binoculars to go on a goat hunt.

Can you use books and the Internet clip to find out about goats. What do they like to eat? Where do they live and what country can they be found in?

Name practise – please also use this time to practise name writing with your child every day. You could follow some of the advice on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swwxOB4MS-Y

Today, we thought you could create a rainbow name using circles your child has cut out and stick the correct letters together.
