What is a biome and where can I find one?

Objective: To understand the distribution of biomes.

Activities

1. A biome is a large global ecosystem, whose location is controlled by climate. Look out the biome map in the top left of your knowledge organisers. Use this to complete task 1.

2. Put the animals and plants listed under task 2 into the biome where you would expect to find them. Use the keywords in the knowledge organiser if you do not understand produce, primary consumer and secondary consumer.

6. Look at the map of annual precipitation on page 7. What patterns can you see. Complete task 5.

7. Turn to page 8. Look at paragraph a which explains why hot deserts are

where they are. Write a paragraph which explains why Tropical rainforests are found where they are. Use the word bank to help you.Use the sentence starters to help get you started on this but try to write your own paragraph first:

Objective: To understand what forms an ecosystem

Activities

1. Complete the learning review at the top of page 9.

2. Label the diagram of a pond ecosystem. Use the keywords in the knowledge organiser to help you.

3. Use the knowledge organiser to help you define weathering on page 10.

7. Read the information about weathering at the top of page 12. Label each image in task 8 with the type of weathering you see.
