Bramley Church of England PrimaryTask 1:

Read the poem below. Draw a picture or lots of smaller pictures to show what happens in the story. Label it using words and phrases from the poem.

An Ogre Came over for Dinner

An ogre came over for dinner. He showed up with ice cream and cake.We thought, “It can’t hurt, since he brought us dessert,”so we asked him to join us for steak.

He crushed the first chair that he sat on.He busted the table in two.He ranted and ravedand was badly behaved, like a rhino escaped from the zoo.

He smashed every plate in the kitchen. He shattered each saucer and cup.He broke every bowl.He was out of controlas he ran around tearing things up.

He broke all the beds in our bedrooms. He even demolished a door.He cracked all the wallsin the stairways and halls, and he left several holes in the floor.

And when he was done causing damage, although we all wanted to scream,he said, “That was funbut I really must run.I hope you enjoy the ice cream.” — Kenn Nesbitt

Addition

When solving addition problems we can:

Use counters or objects from home to make the amounts. Count on using our head and fingers. Use our number bond knowledge. Draw the numbers in dienes (tens and ones) like below.

Choose the best method from above to solve as many of these number sentences as you can. They get harder as they go down the page, if you get stuck, please draw the tens and ones to help you.

Bramley Church of England Primary Task 3:

Our personal hygiene is important to keep us healthy. Our hands can carry many germs and bacteria, that’s why it is important to keep our hands clean by washing them with soap.

In the following experiment, you are going to find out how soap works and why it is better than using just water to wash your hands.

For this experiment you will need:

- A bowl- Water - A sprinkle of black pepper (or any other spice) - Liquid hand soap- A hand towel

In the experiment, the surface of the water in the bowl represents your hands and the pepper represents harmful dirt and germs that need to be washed away. This experiment will show you what happens when you wash your hands with and without soap (there is a sheet on the following page to record your findings).

Bramley Church of England PrimaryTask 6:

In yesterday’s experiment, you saw how soap is used to wash germs away that are carried on our hands. We also have to use other things to keep ourselves clean and healthy to prevent us getting ill.

In the table below, you have been given pictures of items we use for our personal hygiene. Your task is to write down what each picture is used for and why (you can research this if needed).

Picture What am I and what am I used for? How do I keep you clean and healthy?

Bramley Church of England PrimaryTask 7:

Think of a different animal or creature (it could be real or fictional) who could arrive at your house for dinner.

What would it do? You might want it to destroy the house on purpose, destroy it accidentally (like the ogre) or cause trouble in a different way.

The animal who came to dinner:

The type of guest it is e.g. dangerous, clumsy, enormous:

Things the guest did at your house. Try to use some words ending in –ed but remember some words which are in the past tense do not end in –ed e.g. break -> broke. Make sure you add the –ed correctly by using the rules you practised yesterday:

11

Bramley Church of England PrimaryTask 8:

If you can, watch the video on Seesaw first. Watch this carefully, you might need to watch it a few times as this is new learning.

If you cannot watch the video on Seesaw look at the example below:

1. Draw out the tens and ones for your problem.

2. We count up the ones BUT we have 11. That is too many to put in the ones column. We need it to be a one digit number. This means we have to regroup. We can swap ten ones for a ten instead. To do this we need to cross out ten of our ones then we draw on another ten. (Don’t forget to draw the ten!)

3. Now we count the ones again. We have 1, which we put in the ones column.

4. Then count up the tens. We have 7 to we put a 7 in the tens column, so the answer is 71.

12

Bramley Church of England PrimaryThen have a go at these number sentences using the regrouping method. They get harder as they go down the page so do as many as you can.

Once you have got the hang of it, follow the instructions carefully to show us one example on Seesaw!

Bramley Church of England PrimaryTask 9:

Exercise is extremely important for you because it keeps your body healthy and it is important for the organs inside your body, such as your heart.

Today, your task is to design a poster or advert which highlights the benefits of exercise. Think about the following points when researching for your poster/advert:

- Why is exercise important?- How does your body respond when we exercise?- What are the different types of exercise and where can people do these?- Are there any other benefits to exercise, other than improved health?

Upload a picture of your poster/advert to Seesaw.

Bramley Church of England PrimaryTask 10:

Today you are going to write your own poem about an animal coming to your house for dinner. The poem does not need to rhyme but the lines need to be short. The scaffolding below should help you with writing your poem. If you are feeling very confident, you may be able to try without this.

______________________________ means write the type of creature who came to dinner

______________________________ means write the name of a food

______________________________ use an –ed word here or other past tense verb (use ideas from work earlier in the week)

_____________________________ needs a simile, think about what is badly behaved that you could compare it to.

A ___________________ Came over for Dinner

A ___________________________ came over for dinner.

He showed up with ________________________ and __________________________.

We thought, “It can’t hurt,

since he brought us __________________________,”

so we asked him to join us for ____________________________.

He __________________________ the first chair that he sat on.

He _____________________________ the table in two.

He ___________________________ and _________________________________

and was badly behaved,

like a _______________________________________________________________________.

Bramley Church of England PrimaryTask 11:

If you need more practise on yesterday’s task, you can make up some of your own two digit + two digit sums (not going over 100) and re watch yesterday’s video.

If you feel confident, have a go at these problems below. You might want to cut them up and stick them in your book so you have room to show your workings. When you have finished the sheet, take a photo and upload it to Seesaw.

17

Page 18: fluencycontent2-schoolwebsite.netdna-ssl.comfluencycontent2-schoolwebsite.netdna-ssl.com/File...  · Web viewWatch the video on Seesaw about adding –ed to words and then complete

Bramley Church of England PrimaryTask 12:

Our heart is a muscle which is a powerful pump to move blood around the body. It beats somewhere between 60 and 100 times a minute, but can beat even faster than that if needed. When we exercise, we need more energy so the heart beats faster to pump more oxygen around the body quicker.

In this experiment you are going to find out how different exercises can change your heart rate (pulse), using the table below to record your pulse.

For this experiment you will need:

- A stopwatch/ timer - Pencil and paper- An adult or sibling to help

Before and after each exercise record your pulse for 30 seconds and write it in the table below. Each exercise should be completed for 30 seconds.

Exercise Pulse before exercise Pulse after exercise

Walking on the spot

Running on the spot

Jumping Jacks

Answer the following questions once you have completed the experiment.

1) Which exercise made your pulse rise the highest?

2) When your pulse rose, how did this make you feel? (warmer, face go red)

___________________________________________________________________________

3) Why do you think this happened?

Task 14:

Have a go at these reasoning problems. Remember when reasoning it is important to explain how you know. You might explain this to someone at home or write your reasoning down.

Tip: Work out the sums yourself first to help you spot where they have gone wrong.

Sally has solved this sum:

49 + 36 =

She got the answer 715. Her teacher marked it wrong. Can you spot where

Sally went wrong in her workings? Could you explain this to Sally?

Explain it to an adult or write your answer down.

John solved this sum:

17 + 18 =

He thinks the answer is 25. His teacher has marked it wrong. Can you spot where John has gone wrong? Try and explain it to John.

Pippa solved this sum:

19 + 15 =

She got the answer 43. Her teacher has marked it wrong. Can you spot where she has gone wrong? Can you explain it to Pippa?

Sally didn’t know she had to regroup when she counted 15 ones and she has put that number in the ones column even though it is too big!

John has regrouped but has forgotten to put his ten on once he’d crossed out the ones!

Sally has solved the problem but then put her totals in the wrong columns. She got her tens and ones around the wrong way!
