    done to you all!!

  • Dear LPS Parents and local community members,

The lovely weather is still holding up and hopefully we still have some nice sunny “play days “ to come!

RETURNING TO SCHOOL - WEEK 4 As of Monday, 18 May 2020 in line with the DoE and Health Dept. recommendations all students are expected to attend school, except for those students medically referred to learn from home. This means students are either attending school, or have a medical referral to learn from home. Students who do not attend school will be recorded as an unexplained absence, unless they are unwell, and parents will receive a text message asking to explain their absence, unless you have spoken to the school before 10am. Over the last three weeks we have seen 84% of our students return to school, which has been fantastic and I have been amazed by the level of support from parents, whether their child has been at school, or learning at home. I know it seems that this is a broken record but to know that our community supports what is happening in our school means the world to us as a staff. We truly do see your children as you do and we understand that we are lucky enough to teach some of the most important people in your world and we feel that it is a real privilege to do so. Our fantastic staff cannot do the amazing job they do without such a

supportive network and we truly thank you for the opportunity we have been given to work at LPS.

NEW PLAY EQUIPMENT FOR WET WEATHER DAYS We now have upcycled two of our unused Art tables to make terrific Table Tennis Tables for use by the students in the area between the classrooms. Thank you so much to Ms Collins for the brainstorming of this idea, and for Seitzy for getting it all up and running, as the students are loving having additional resources to use during break times. They will certainly be put to good use over the winter months, as will the two giant Jenga sets Seitzy is organising when the weather prevents us from playing outside. We are also in the process of getting a water tank installed to collect the rain from the area between the Library and Toilet block, and this will give us an additional play space, so that combined with the Library it will ensure that wet weather days are just as much fun as dry sunny days!

CRAZY HAIR DAY Yesterday the school came “together” to enjoy Crazy Hair Day. This is an annual fun day organised by the Student Council and we raised $60 for the Zero to Hero program, that is in partnership with the Bendigo Bank. This organisation helps students build resilience and teamwork skills, through programs such as 4the Team, run by Mark Clayden, which we were lucky enough to be part of in 2019. Once things get back to a “new” normal we are hoping to be able to be a part of this program again. The Bendigo Bank are such a big supporter of our students at LPS, as they provide us with a substantial amount of funding for our large ongoing programs that we wish to thank them for always being there for us. Hopefully in the not too distant future we will be able to operate School Banking again, and I encourage all students to consider bringing in their pocket money each Wednesday to deposit it in their Bendigo account. It fosters an important life skill that will hopefully set our students up to be successful savers into the future.

OUR FIRST P.A. ASSEMBLY (COVID—19 STYLE!) We know how much we all enjoy our weekly assemblies so the Student Council came up with an inventive way of holding our assemblies each Wednesday. The Councillors set up the PA system , and ran the assembly from the Office while the students stayed in their classes. We had our usual awards, Student of the Week, Super Readers and Birthday stars as well as important announcements for the week. We even managed to draw our winners of the Instant Rewards and Cool to be Kind awards for the week. Although the Student Councillors were nervous they did an amazing job and this will now be a regular feature until the COVID restrictions on large gatherings are lifted. This is just another example of how we are making this “work like clockwork” even with the changes in how our school is running! We are making the best of a interesting situation, and we cannot wait to be able to have parents and carers back to be part of our assemblies, but at least this way our fabulous students are still getting the recognition they deserve. We have posted photos on LPS Facebook page and in this newsletter.

TENNIS COURTS Our Tennis courts are now complete and are available for the community to use after school hours. Please contact the school on 0896551077 and you will be given a code that will unlock a “key box” near the office back door. All community members are welcome to use this facility but to ensure that this remains well looked after we do ask that you ensure the gate is locked and the key returned at the end of your session and that the courts are left in a clean and tidy condition. Many thanks!

Just again, I would like to thank the community for allowing us to ensure our students “Fly High….See Far” at Lancelin Primary School.

Warm regards, Jemma Jemma Temby Principal Lancelin Primary School

  • ‘Pop Up Pantry’

Lancelin Community Resource Centre has set up a ‘Pop up Pantry’ to help those families in need. If you would like to donate any non-perishable items, they can be dropped off at the front office. Thanks A lot.

Lancelin Primary School P&C NEWS The P&C held the Annual General Meeting on 30th April via Zoom. Thanks to those that attended

and the following people who nominated to take up positions on the Executive Committee for 2020:

President: Simone Mclean Vice President: Sophie Shaw Secretary/Treasurer: Sid Mclean

Other Committee Members: Lyndall Cochrane & Jemma Prickett & Jemma Temby

Thanks also to those who nominated to help out on the various sub-committees.

The P&C will meet again later this term to consider where to allocate fundraising monies for 2020. If

you have ideas as to what resources the school needs, come along and have some input. It is a great

way to contribute to making your child’s school a better place. Please see below the 2019 Financial

    Statement.

Thank You Seitzy for making us these

fantastic Ping Pong Tables. They will

sure get some good use during those

wet and windy days in winter.
