STARS, nuestro programa de reconocimientoSTARS, our recognition programme
During the month of November, in all the ALESTIS work centres
we carried out the recognition of the teams that have contributed
towards ongoing improvement within our AMES development. We
have named this programme STARS (Say Thanks and Recognize
Success) and from this column in FLYING we would also like to say
thanks to all those who, in their daily work and as part of the work
teams in the work centres, make great efforts and participate in the
processes of change in order to generate excellence and eliminate
waste in our processes.
Although a special mention has been made to the teams that
have contributed to the change in an outstanding way, I would also
like to recognise each and every one of the teams and people that
have participated by contributing their ideas, irrespective of whether
they won awards. I am sure that for future editions we will have new
winners and the important thing is not who adds most or saves most,
but the contribution of everybody in a systematic, committed and
quick manner that makes it possible to generate value for our custo-
mers through the radical elimination of expense and waste.
Through the company’s management indicators or through the
performance metrics reported to us by our customers, we can per-
ceive the change, we notice how we improve every day and that is
what they tell us. We are now a reliable company in compliance with
our commitments and with high standards in comparison with the
sector and, although there are still many aspects to guarantee for the
future, above all in the ramp-up of the A350 XWB, the Management
Committee is proud of what we have achieved and we would like the
employees of ALESTIS to feel equally proud of this moment. AMES
must drive us to make the definitive leap over the coming years.
STARS wishes to humbly recognise this contribution; there is no bet-
ter recognition than a job well done and a satisfied customer.
Thank you to everybody for this.
Hemos llamado a este programa, STARS (Say Thanks and Recognize

comerciales.
Sin duda, Farnborough superó las expectativas. Registró un to-

Farnborough closed this edition of the airshow with a more than nota-
ble participation of companies and public. The airshow, held between
11 and 17 July became a showcase for the various participating com-
panies that make up the different sectors of the aerospace industry.
Alestis attended the event through a joint delegation organised
by the Trade Promotion Agency of Andalucia (Extenda), which forms
part of the Regional Ministry of the Economy and Knowledge, and the
Hélice cluster. Together with eight further companies, it was the sole
group representation from Spain.
The airshow represented the consolidation of Airbus and Boeing
as the current most important companies in the aerospace industry,
which are increasingly linked to the Asian market in which they aim
to continue growing by increasing the number of trade links.
Farnborough undoubtedly exceeded expectations. It recorded a
total of 73,000 trade visits over five days, the participation of 110
aircraft in flying and static display, 1500 exhibitors from 52 countries,
23 international pavilions with new country pavilions from Austria,
Brazil, China, Korea and the Republic of Ireland, Germany (Hanse)
and Romania, 98 military delegations from 66 countries, 29 civil and
commercial delegations from 22 countries…
Different activities were performed such as exhibitions, displays,
talks etc and it became the business centre of the aerospace sector in
the United Kingdom, allowing the participating companies greater in-
ternational reach and providing them with the opportunity to build pro-
jects based on the reality in which the industry carries out its activity.

It also made moves to closer links with the public. To this end,
it had different spaces and programmes with an innovation area
where students from 11 to 21 years old were able to experiment with
the aerospace technology of the future by means of an interactive,
informative and attractive program, introducing them fully into the
current world of the aerospace industry.
Farnborough International Airshow is, together with the Par-
is-Le Bourget airshow, the main airshow of the aerospace sector
held in Europe and is attended by the main aeronautical and aer-
ospace agents and companies worldwide, as demonstrated yet
again this year.

Superada auditoría IPCA con calificación BIPCA audit passed with a B rating
Last October the IPCA audits were conducted in Vitoria, focused on
the A350 XWB, and in Puerto Real, for the A320 programme. The IPCA
(Industrial Process Control Assessment) audit consists in an eval-
uation of the industrial process of the products of Airbus suppliers.
The aim is to verify the capacity and skill to comply with the ex-
pectations of Airbus Operations with regard to the Product, Supply
Chain and Production Engineering; to identify gaps in the supplier for
industrialising the requirements of Airbus and, finally, to verify that
the processes are stable and are under control in order to achieve the
deliveries on time, with quality and at the best cost throughout the
life of the product. As the output of this assessment, once the risks
have been identified, an Action Plan is executed.
At the end of 2015, Airbus presented the results of this audit for
Alestis, setting as the company’s objective in 2016 achievement of a
“B” assessment during this year, which represents one further step
towards final goal of being recognised by Airbus with the A rating.
Under the supervision of Jesús Espinosa, an MFT (Multi Func-
tional Team) was set up and the processes for identifying the gaps,
action plans and for achieving the “B” rating were defined. Intensive
work was conducted during subsequent months: specific IPCA+

training sessions were planned and internal audits were performed
led by the Quality Systems, Audits and Certifications (SCAC) area and
AMES in order to verify that we were on the right path in the closure
of the action plans. This work was facilitated by the launch of the
APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) in Alestis, directly related
to the IPCA+ evaluations.
Finally, the work and effort of the participating teams, both in
the plants and in the central offices have resulted in the company
obtaining the desired “B” rating and the opportunity, in one further
step towards excellence, of aspiring towards the “A” rating as the
next goal.
This milestone gives our processes and management system
credibility with regard to the Client.
The line of work has been defined, we only have to continue
working in the same direction in order to close all the Non-Conform-
ities detected in the assessment and to ensure that next year we can
achieve the “A” rating.

Nuestros compañeros de Getafe participan en la I Carrera del Aire de la ciudadOur colleagues from Getafe participate in the city’s 1st Air Run
On 16 October, Getafe hosted the 1st Air Run organised by Flight
News, a specialist magazine for aeronautical, defence and aero-
space information, together with the cooperation of the Airbus Group
of Companies, the Spanish Air Force through the Getafe air force bar-
racks and GISA (Getafe Iniciativas).
This first 10-km run enjoyed the participation of over 500 run-
ners. The event was particularly successful among the colleagues
of our offices in Getafe as a significant part of the workforce decided
to represent Alestis in this adventure wearing our Company’s new
corporate running T-shirts.
With the aim of promoting solidarity as the key value in the
event, a Dorsal Cero system was set up whereby donations are col-
lected that are subsequently divided between the Spanish Commis-
sion for Refugee Aid (CEAR) and Cáritas, and a food collection point
was set up to distribute the food among the most underprivileged
groups in the city.

E&C launches the Gifts and Hospitality and Training and Seminars
Guides. These documents develop specifi c themes already included
in the Alestis Code and indicate the basic principles to be taken into
account when managing these activities.
The Gifts and Hospitality Guide highlights the importance of as-
sessing the amount of the gift, the origin/recipient and the context in
which it takes place (procurement, negotiation, audit etc). There is a
specifi c form for reporting the gifts and for assessing whether they
match ethical principles.
With regard to the Training and Seminars Guide, it is important to
highlight the relevance of the document for establishing the guide-
lines that allow the Company’s know-how and confi dential informa-
tion to be protected.
Given that there are many possible situations to be faced, it is
important that any doubt or question that may arise be put to the
E&C team.
The guides and associated documents are published on the in-

CFA, una apuesta por el crecimiento de la industria aeronáutica y naval en CádizThe Centre for Advanced Manufacturing (CFA), a commitment to the growth of the aeronautical and naval industry in Cádiz
The aeronautical and naval sectors have come together to start-up the
new Centre for Advanced Manufacturing (CFA) in Cádiz. On 27 Sep-
tember, the Regional Government of Andalusia, Navantia, Airbus, SMEs,
the University of Cadiz and the maritime-naval cluster of Cadiz (Hélice)
signed an agreement to develop this new project that will include the
participation of a large number of auxiliary companies, which include
Alestis, represented in the event by Javier Díaz Gil and Jesús Espinosa.
The aim is to promote innovation, research and technology and ap-
ply them to the industrial production processes of these two sectors,
which have been the most important sectors for the Cadiz province.
The CFA will have its own centre that will be built as from 2017
in El Trocadero, behind the former Delphi factory and next to the Air-
bus factory. Construction is expected to last between two and three
years, with the centre completed prior to 2020. Meanwhile, the Re-
gional Government will hire a industrial unit to start with the work
until the transfer to the new centre.
This will involve a process of modernisation for the sector as one
of its strengths will be the implementation of robotisation, virtual re-
ality and sensor-supported equipment which will lead to Industry 4.0.
All of this will go together with the human workforce and will mean
that over the next 20 years, Andalusian companies will compete on
cost, quality and safety with Mexico, Morocco, India and China.

dente del Consejo de Acción Empresarial de la Fundación Hélice;
The 2015 Report on the Andalusian Aerospace Industry prepared
by the Fundación Hélice was presented in the Aerópolis Business
Centre on 16 September. The event was presided over by Joaquín
Rodríguez, President of Hélice; Antonio Gómez Guillamón, President
of the Business Action Board of the Fundación Hélice; Pedro Mon-
toya, General Secretary of the Airbus Group and by the President of
the Regional Government of Andalusia, Susana Díaz. The event was
also attended by major figures in the Andalusian aeronautical indus-
try and in representation of Alestis, the CEO, Javier Díaz Gil.
The data shows significant growth both in sector profits and in
the number of jobs created. Compared with the rest of Spain, Anda-
lusia has become one of the most important Autonomous Regions
for the aerospace industry, with a rise of 2.34 billion euros, growth
of 4.5%, while the rest of Spain grew by only 2.63%. With regard to
employment, 1052 new jobs were created in the aerospace sector in
Andalusia, leading to a total of 13,740 professionals in total, growth
of 8.3% compared with only 4.5% in the rest of Spain.
With these figures, Andalusia has become the second most im-
portant region for this sector nationally, only behind Madrid, and “one
of the three most important aeronautical poles in Europe, together
with Toulouse and Hamburg”, according to the Fundación Hélice.
Thanks to the increase in productivity and capacity, the 118 com-
panies located in Andalusia (most of which are located in Seville)
participate in international programmes and in large work packages,
such as production of the A400M, with 26% of the sales, without for-
getting the importance of the production of the CN235 and C295 in
these figures, which account for 22%.
However, the determining factor for this growth has been the suc-
cess of auxiliary companies. The supply chain has been the driver
ALESTIS NEWS IN BRIEF
17
that has generated this growth and, together with this, aerostructures
have recorded the highest percentage of sales by product type within
the total figures for the sector.
The final positive figure of this summary is that the contribution
to Andalusian GDP grew by 3% in 2015, and 36,000 new aircraft are
expected to be needed in the next 20 years, which will lead to global
invoicing of 5.5 trillion dollars.
Today, the Andalusian aerospace sector has reasons to celebrate.

A partir
3
Analysis and development
This began in October 2015 through the definition of an MFT in Alestis en-trusted with analysing the modifications to be implemented, the temporary
concessions, and the datasheets of this flight test aircraft. This stage is therefore critical for the project’s success as the full scope of the work to be performed is defined: the material that must be purchased,
the parts that must be industrialised in internal manufacturing and the production necessary for execution of the work.
1
Industrialisation
Two types of modifications to the design were addressed in this stage: the standard modifications and the adaptation modifications, with the latter
requiring a new generation of manufacturing drawings. In order to perform the chronological oversight, a Master Schedule was established that
consisted of a detailed plan of: drawing design, manufacturing of parts and assembly thereof.
2
Working party
Upon completion of the previous stages, the Alestis team performed the adaptation work of the MSN005 in a 2-month period (September-October
2016), thus complying with the delivery date required by Airbus.
3
Alestis has performed the adaptation work in the MSN005 A350
XWB, BF and S19.1, with the aim of making this test model airwor-
thy and moving forward to final delivery by Airbus to the customer,
French Blue.
The Commercial Bid process led by Jose Antonio Gutiérrez from
Programmes, was in and of itself complicated, as although Alestis
is required to perform the reworking for the packages of the S19.1
and BF of the A350 XWB, it was necessary to perform a thorough
analysis for the project to be economically viable. Based on this
analysis, the project, led from Programmes by Natividad Sánchez
del Álamo, and sponsored by Carlos Domínguez, went through the
following stages:
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
27
This project has given rise to various challenges, such as the
reorganisation of the assembly team in France after receiving indi-
cations from Airbus that the work would be performed in Bordeaux,
specifically in the installations of the company Sabena located in the
area of Bordeaux airport, instead of in Toulouse, where Alestis has a
resident team with extensive capacity and experience, as was initial-
ly envisaged.
The project presented other challenges such as the need to de-
fine the layout of the installations, implementation of new jobs that
were not envisaged in the initial scope, the logistics tasks that need-
ed to be performed in order to coordinate the regular transport be-
tween the Plants and the new location in Bordeaux, and the search
for a solution for the refrigeration of the chemical products. In any
event, the work team was able to overcome all these challenges and
complete the refurbishment tasks in compliance with the deadline
defined by the Customer.
Delivery to the airline French Blue is planned for 26 June 2017, a
period during which the other suppliers involved will complete their
reworking in the MSN005 and it will be sent to the FAL in Toulouse.

Primera edición del Programa de Reconocimiento STARSFirst edition of the STARS Recognition Programme
In November, we held the STARS Programme in all the Alestis work
centres, an event recognising effort and teamwork in which we had
the opportunity to discover the wide variety of solutions provided by
staff at different levels of the Company.
This event is an accurate reflection of the concerns and potential
of our teams, the commitment to ongoing improvement, the coop-
eration of everybody towards a common objective and, as a conse-
quence of all of this, the improvement in results and efficiency.
In the words of Jesús Espinosa, Operations Director, "it is a rec-
ognition of the contribution of the workforce to the structural change
currently being conducted in Alestis and which is based on the AMES
strategy to achieve efficiency through the excellence of people".
In the words of Javier Picazo, Director of Excellence System &
Global Transformation: “the STARS programme is not a one-off thing,
but instead falls within the AMES strategy and specifically in its 4th
pillar, PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT, where, among other things, the aim is
to integrate in the Management System a Standard of Recognition of
the achievements obtained with this new way of working that results
in greater motivation and the commitment of all the employees.
In short, the aim is to take an extra step and publicly recognise
the involvement in standards and the merit of the teams for their
contribution to the Company’s success.
We would like to highlight the quantity of the projects submit-
ted and how rewarding it is to have such a variety proposals, and
INTERVIEW

in different disciplines. All ideas are welcome in STARS, which is
the ideal forum to let other colleagues know about proposals which
may be implemented in other programmes and which may be ex-
tendable to other plants.
Finally, we should mention that this first edition of STARS has it-
self been a process of ongoing improvement from the first event held
in Tecnobahía until the last event in Puerto Real. The cooperation
and involvement of the AMES managers and the Directors of each
plant have made it possible to incorporate into each session the les-
sons learned in the previous event, leading to the refinement of the
voting processes, the performance of perfectly organised presenta-
tions and, what is most important of all, everything has been con-
ducted in a very participative and natural atmosphere, which clearly
shows the consolidation and integration of the teams.
Congratulations to all the participants, because the ideas and
solutions provided are those which contribute towards our improve-
ment as a Company. Below we include the winning projects of each
Centre and we encourage you to be the transmitters of these solu-
tions and we invite you to continue adding ideas.

Ames y la estandarización en Alestis Ames and standardisation in Alestis
POLIS_ A350 XWB BF Systems; PUERTO REAL_ A350 XWB BF Systems
y PUERTO REAL_ A350 XWB S19.1, PUERTO REAL_ A330 PAX DOOR.
The AMES work system is oriented towards an ongoing search for
Excellence in systems, processes and people.
Within our implementation plan and in pursuit of this objective of
excellence and the achievement of our goals in safety, quality, deliv-
ery, cost and people development, a process standardisation system
has been started up in the Puerto Real and Aerópolis plants. The aim
is to implement it in the other plants by 2018.
The standardisation consists of the development of a system that
presents a series of steps to be followed for determining and applying
the best possible process with the least waste and the highest max-
imisation of added value. The ultimate goal is to guarantee, at the
same time, an optimal level of safety, quality, cost and delivery.
To date, three pilot projects have been launched: AEROPOLIS_
A350 XWB BF Systems; PUERTO REAL_ A350 XWB BF Systems and
PUERTO REAL_ A350 XWB S19.1, PUERTO REAL_ A330 PAX DOOR.

The development of the MFT´s in both plants has been very
good. We have applied more efficient methods in our processes, we
have taken the daily operations to the workshop with our MFT´s and
GNT´s, and all of the departments have managed to work together.
This new work dynamic produces improvements that are con-
verted into visible results, such as a reduction of hours or improve-
ments in quality. This is what happened in Aerópolis, where, with the
implementation of the first standardised system, a 34% reduction in
hours and a 60% improvement in quality of HNC’s in the product have
been achieved.
The standardisation process was started in 2016 and will last
until 2018. We invite the entire Alestis community to be part of our
new AMES path and, by means of teamwork, to achieve our goals for
achieving greater effectiveness and efficiency with our clients and
to be more productive in order to obtain greater profitability and to
make Alestis a better company.

ARUS: Una apuesta por la innovación bajo el patrocinio de AlestisARUS: A commitment to innovation under the sponsorship of Alestis
Since 2013, Alestis has maintained a sponsorship agreement with
ARUS (Andalucía Racing Team), a team created by students from the
School of Engineering of the University of Seville that works on the
design and manufacturing of single-seater cars with the aim of par-
ticipating in different motorsport competitions.
The project was born in 2012 when a group of engineering stu-
dents, who were passionate about motorsports, decided to create a
Formula Student team in Seville.
One year later, they participated in Formula Student Spain, with
the design, cost study and business plan of a first single-seat-
er car, repeating the same feat in 2014 when they also joined the
Formula Student Germany championship, consolidating their par-
ticipation in the best recognised university level motorsports com-
petition in Europe.
Alestis, complying with its commitment to the community and
with the aim of promoting the learning and education of future gen-
erations of employees of the aeronautical sector, began its participa-
tion in this project by providing aeronautical materials that will form
part of the single- seater cars manufactured by ARUS. With the aim
of explaining the sponsorship agreement in more detail, they them-
selves now tell us what the project consists of and what the support
provided by our Company means for the team:
THE REPORT
43
¿Cuántos años lleváis colaborando con Alestis? Ya son tres
temporadas (2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16) y 4 monoplazas en to-
tal.
sultados estructurales y acabados, habría disminuido notablemente.
How many years have you been in partnership with Alestis?
There have now been three seasons (2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16)
and 4 single-seater cars in total. Practically since the start of the
team, the partnership with Alestis has been ongoing, and will hope-
fully continue to be so.
How did the initiative to contact Alestis arise? Seeking compa-
nies related to the aeronautical and composites sector, Alestis Aer-
ospace was, and is, a truly interesting option, above all as it is in Se-
ville, which facilitates direct contact and makes delivery easier. Time
has shown that contacting you was the right move.
What has the contribution of Alestis meant for the project? With-
out Alestis, survival of the project would have been in danger, and
undoubtedly the quality, in terms of weight, structural results and
finishes, would have fallen significantly.
What materials does Alestis provide and in what pieces are they
implemented? So far we have been lucky enough to have aeronauti-
cal materials such as specific glues, copper mesh, aluminium honey-
comb panel and pre-peg fibreglass. High quality materials that have
been used in numerous structural elements. For example, the floor
of the three cars (and the next) has been strengthened with fibre and
honeycomb sandwich plates, which greatly increase the torsional
rigidity of our tubular chassis. Similarly, the anchoring and internal
structure elements of both wings have been strengthened with fibre-
glass of the same type of sandwich laminate.

Has Alestis always provided the same material? Have you tried
any other materials from our Company? Every year, Alestis has
adapted as far as possible to our needs. For example, the copper
mesh was during the manufacturing of the ART-14, but perhaps year
we may consider it once again for the design. There are still many
products for us to consider and test and of course any help is al-
ways welcome.
How are these pieces produced? For the pre-peg laminate parts,
we laminate flat plates which are then edge finished by another of
our sponsors in the sector. These plates are cured in an oven or
an autoclave depending on their availability and the optimal curing
temperature. This year we want to try fill in specific areas of the
honeycomb panel so that the cutting and the holes are cleaner and
more resistant.
Do you think that there are other materials of Alestis that might
be useful to the project? Yes, of course. We are always interested
in learning new things. Handling different materials and production
methods is another of the project's added values. Furthermore, in
addition to the material, we especially appreciate the advice when
dealing, for example, with composite materials, as well as the trans-
fer of the know-how acquired in so many projects.

THE REPORT

Hasta ahora siempre he-
Do you implement improvements between the competitions?
The competition regulation requires you to make changes every year
in order to promote the creativity and work of future engineers. These
changes may be small, but we believe that we still have a lot to im-
prove and learn, and therefore the improvements tend to be substan-
tial in all departments. The biggest change was between the first two
cars, the ART-14 and the ART-15, and little by little we are trying to
optimise the designs and concepts and even to change them com-
pletely. In addition, even within the same season we change some
things against the clock between competitions due to breakdowns or
the experienced gained from having the car on the track.
What competitions do you have coming up?
Up to now we have always gone to Formula Student Germany, on
the Hockemhein circuit and to Formula Student Spain, on the Mont-
meló circuit. This year we are studying the possibility of participating
in Formula Student Austria or UK, however this depends on many
things (budget, dates, obtaining a place ...) and we are still not fully
sure. From Alestis, we encourage ARUS to continue developing this
project and to continue competing at the same level. We are proud of
the commitment of new generations to innovation and, even more so,
if our contribution helps towards this. We will continue working on
maintaining this type of partnership, always in line with the current
Sponsorship and Donations procedure.

Fundación Márgenes y Vínculos: La oportunidad de una infancia felizFundación Márgenes y Vínculos: The opportunity of a happy childhood
For many children, that door is called “Fundación Márgenes y Víncu-
los”. The work the foundation performs provides an opportunity for
many of them to have a future and a childhood remembered for the
affection and happiness received from foster families.
The number of names that have passed through the foundation
up to last September stands at around 1000. However, each and
every one of them is remembered for their unique features and anec-
dotes. The foundation’s aim in the 19 years that it has been operat-
ing is “to find families that will cover the needs that a child may have
throughout his/her childhood, such as love, affection etc”, stated Mª
Ángeles Míguez, president of Márgenes y Vínculos.
Without detracting from the work performed in children’s homes,
the foundation highlights that children need family references and

Gra-
cias a todos.
can provide. Unfortunately, children’s homes cannot solve the prob-
lem because they cannot replace families.
The first case of fostering took place in November 1997. Work
has been carried out since then in the provinces of Cadiz and Seville
and 6074 people have benefited from the work and effort performed
by the foundation: children who have found happiness in families
and families who have seen how these children have developed as
people and grown filled with joy and love. Only one year before that,
in 1996, fostering projects were presented for the first time in Spain
and Andalusia.
The foundation explains that they work using two systems: resi-
dential or emergency fostering, for which the centre draws up a specific
educational plan for each child and group; and family fostering of chil-
dren from 0 to 17 years old. “Over the last three years, we have received
older profiles. The longer the exposure time suffered by the child, the
more irreparable the after effects”, explains Mª Ángeles Míguez.
The foundation currently carries out workshops, partnerships
with the Psychology Faculty of the University of Seville, presenta-
tions, courses etc. In short, the work that they perform does not re-
main only in the centre, within a family or a specific child, but they
aim to raise society’s awareness of the existence of this programme
that continues around us daily and which many people do not yet
know about.
As members of Alestis, we should feel proud about having con-
tributed, through the Common Space competition and with our vote,
towards improving the lives of people who are building their future,
towards offering them the opportunity of having a better childhood.
Thank you to everybody.
