It confirms my choice as an installer of refrigeration systems, to use Copeland Scroll™ compressors”, this is how one of the visitors summarized his visit of the Emerson Climate Technologies production plant in Welkenraedt, Belgium. He was part of a group of experts who took the opportunity to look at one of the most modern production and assembly lines for scroll compressors in Europe. This event was organized by Emerson Climate in cooperation with the German refrigeration association DKV (Deutscher Kälte- und Klimatechnischer Verein) as a flying visit one day before the DKV Congress 2011 held in Aachen on the 17 th and 18 th November. A brief presentation about Emerson Climate Technologies, its divisions worldwide as well the production of scroll compressors was made to the visitors by Jean- Claude Wetzels, Vice President Operations Europe. Additional information about the development process of scrolls were given by Dr. Norbert Kämmer, Vice President Engineering. At the end of the tour, everyone felt that those three hours had been well spent visiting a state-of the-art factory for the production of scroll compressors. Welkendraedt is one of Emerson’s 35 manufacturing facilities around the globe which produce a total of around 10 Mio. scrolls every year. The visit was part of Emerson’s support package to the DKV conference as a sponsor. At the conference, experts from Emerson Climate Technologies presented papers on a new efficient variable speed scroll compressor and drive, semi-hermetic capacity control with the new digital Stream compressor, the development of a transcritical CO 2 Stream compressor and R32 as refrigerant alternative in the air conditioning business.
