Introduction
2 different lines of FMGS are currently installedon the A319/A320/A321.
The FMGS B546 family (B1,B1+,B3) embodied on
all A321/A319 and A320 above MSN 530.
The older FMGS B398 family (A1,A1+,A3)embodied on all A320 below MSN 530.
The B546 family has received additional
capabilities such as Global Speed Protection,400 KWD database, full ACARS/printer
function.

Introduction All current standards of FMGS will be replaced
by A3 or B3 version.
This retrofit is free of charge and supervised by
Airbus Industrie.
It has commenced in October 98 and will lastapproximately 18 months.

FMGS standard A1+/B1+ All improvements of the A1/B1 and A1+/B1+
standards are included in the A3/B3 currently
retrofitted.
Therefore all airlines will receive both A1+/B1+

FMGS standard A1+/B1+ The standard A1+/B1+ brings the following
improvements:
OEB 129 cancellation (Thrust reduction at cruise
flight level).
Reduce false LOC capture (LOC capture thresholdadjusted).
A/THR response improved in approach. (A321 logic
installed on A320).
Possible engagement of LOC and G/S above radioaltimeter validity.
VAPP reduction (option).

FMGS standard A1+/B1+VAPP reduc tion
It is a new algorithm that reduces the approach speed.
The formulae is:
VAPP = VLS + 1/3 of the headwind component
It is basic on A319, A321.
It can be retrofitted to all A320s through an optional pin
program.

FMGS standard B3Global speed protection
In the frame of A319 development, Airbus has
implemented some of the improvements introduced
in the A330/A340 in particular in the speed
protection domain.
A package of modifications called Global speed
protection, involving FCU and FMGC changes is
now available with the B546 standard only.
(modification n26497).
In order to keep the commonality with the A320FMGS B398 this function can be deactivated. (anti-
mod n 28290).

Main improvements are:
When the airspeed reaches a speed/Mach limit,the speed excursion is counteracted by an
increased authority in pitch (up to 0.3g).
This protection is active in: OPEN mode

Global speed protection
Automatic reversion from V/S to OPEN orFPA to OPEN mode is deleted.
The following behavior applies:
When reaching the speed/Mach limit in V/S or FPA
mode, AP/FD gives order to maintain this speed or
Mach limit.
Aircraft will remain in V/S or FPA mode but the
trajectory will be modified to keep the aircraft within
the speed envelope.(VMIN or VMAX).

Miscellaneous New FMGS A3 and B3 inhibit the alpha floor in
single engine when the slats are extended
this avoids asymmetric thrust not commanded by
the pilot when alpha-floor is reached (low speed,
close to VMCA).
They also provide an automatic speedbrake
retraction at go-around if the ELAC L80 is
installed (mod n 27276).

FCU option (M11 standard ) FDs in go around
In order to ease the go around guidance, a new
modification enables to restore the FD bars and
arms the Autothrust at go around engagement,
whatever the previous status was, (FDs OFF or
TRK-FPA selected or A/THR off).
This modification requires the FCU M11 standard
retrofit and a specific pin program.

standards in the future.
