Extended Diploma in Music TechnologyThe BriefThis project is the culmination of your two year course, offering you the opportunity to self devise a set of recordings which showcase your technical, organisational, and marketing skills to the best possible effect.

Task 1; Submit a proposal and target audience for your recordings, including social media links and artwork jpeg

Task 2; Act as producer and creative director on a minimum of 4 tracks per person fulfilling the sound requirements associated with the genre outlined in task 1.Task 3; Undertake supplementary roles in the studio assisting colleagues as engineer, tape op, assistant producer.Task 4; Provide 1 marketing tool (Remix, Viral Video)

You must post your final mixes and a written report of a minimum of 2000 words on Tumblr under the following headings.

1. Marketing and Demographics Identify precedents in the marketplace (existing acts in the genre). Propose strategies for release (Social Media, streaming websites etc). Propose a realistic marketing campaign, identifying specific websites, magazines, radio stations (specialist shows etc). Include how you might utilise social networking media and viral marketing techniques to draw attention to your recordings (Remix).

2. Production and Recording Techniques

Explain relevant techniques, effects, editing and processing, integral to achieving the sonic characteristics associated with your chosen style or genre. Include references to existing tracks in the marketplace and the defining ‘sound’ of these recordings. How did you go about achieving your desired result? Critique the success or failure of your work against the intentions you describe in your proposal. Use screengrabs where necessary

3. Supplementary Roles Explain how you contributed as an engineer, assistant producer, tape operator (computer operator) on five recordings undertaken by your colleagues. Include references here to microphone choice and placement, editing, mixing, contribution to creative choices.
