Fish Market Price Information System (FMPIS) - Introduction

• Launched in the year 2019, the FMPIS project was implemented in 82 markets covering 05 States and 01 UT forcollecting the fish price information till December 2020.

• With a vision of upscaling the project, 195 new markets were registered during January 2021 under FMPIS coveringthe new states of Karnataka and all NE states, totalling to 277 markets on board

• 254 enumerators were identified against the 277 markets and identification of enumerators for remaining marketsis under progress.

• For the current fortnight, out of 100 markets reported from 9 states, culled out data of 47 markets was analysed.

• Among the new fish markets registered, Assam has been noted as an active participant in entering the fish pricedata

FMPIS Price analysis on top 05 most sold FW species

• Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Grass carp and Pangasius were recorded as the top 05 most sold FW fishes across states

• Among the top most sold 5 Freshwater fishes, Catla fetched a higher average price of Rs.252/Kg followed by Rohu,Mrigal, Pangasius and Grass carp across states

• Average Per Kg price of Catla varied between Rs.110/-(Kerala) to Rs.252/- (Assam)

• Average Per Kg Rohu varied between Rs. 107/- (Andhra Pradesh) to Rs.235/- (Meghalaya) across states

• Overall observation depicted that NE states fetched the highest per Kg average price for all the top 05 most sold FWfishes compared to Southern states

• Grass carp, Mrigal and Pangasius recorded the average per Kg price below Rs.100/- in the states of AP andTelangana

• Of the 05 most sold FW fishes, Pangasius fetched lowest average per kg price of Rs.75/- in Karnataka

• Among FW species, Snakehead (Murrel) fetched the highest per Kg average price of Rs.800/- in Tamil Naduirrespective of the top sold FW species

Southern States & UTs (Coastal) Fish Price Analysis

• Among the Southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry (UT), Crustaceansfetched highest price compared to Fin fishes

• Within the state of Andhra Pradesh, Silver Pomfret fetched the highest avg price of Rs.423/Kg followed by Seabassand Tiger shrimp, whereas the lowest of Rs.50/Kg for Bombay duck and Cuttle fishes

• Within the state of Karnataka, Tiger shrimp fetched the highest avg price of Rs.1075/Kg (4 count=4 pieces per Kg)followed by Seer and Silver pomfret, whereas the lowest of Rs.60/Kg for Little Tuna

• Within the state of Kerala, Silver Pomfret fetched the highest avg price of Rs.462.50/Kg followed by Cuttle fish, squidand Wahoo whereas the lowest of Rs.80/Kg for Tilapia, Pangasius and Mud crab

• Within the state of TN, Snake head fetched the highest avg price of Rs.800/Kg followed by Murrel and Reef sharkwhereas the lowest of Rs.100/Kg for Squid, Marlin, Common & Grass carp, Dog tooth tuna, Sail fish and Saw fish

NE states fish price analysis points

• Within the state of Assam, Magur fetched the highest avg price of Rs.515/Kg followed by Singhi and Gaint Cat fishwhereas the lowest of Rs.120/Kg for Chinese Pomfret

• Within the state of Meghalaya, Notopterus fetched the highest avg price of Rs.600/Kg followed by Gonius and Catlawhereas the lowest of Rs.120/Kg for Puntius

Popular Fresh water Vs Marine species across Indian Markets

• Shell fishes fetched higher Avg per Kg price compared to Fin fishes across the selected markets in India

• Marine species fetched higher Avg per price compared to FW species

• Among Marine species, highest Avg price was fetched by Tiger shrimp with Rs.468/Kg and lowest by OilSardine with Rs.118/Kg across the selected Indian markets

• Among FW species, highest Avg price was fetched by Catla with Rs.158/Kg and lowest by Pangasius withRs.120/Kg across the selected Indian markets

• The Avg price for all the species of FW and Marine was nowhere less than Rs.100/Kg
