    Good MorningFranklin Middle

    SchoolToday is FridayFebruary 5, 2021

  • Today’s Welcoming RitualCharacter is an important part of how we present ourselves to others. It also comes through in the things we do or choose not to do.

What are three things you can do today to show good character?

  • If you want to learn more about this topic, visit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_R._Williams https://www.paulrwilliamsproject.org/about/paul-revere-williams-architect/ https://www.thoughtco.com/paul-revere-williams-hollywood-architect-177880

Paul Williams is the “Pioneer of the L.A. look.” Based is Los Angeles, California, Paul designed houses for many celebrities including Frank Sinatra, Lucy and Desi, and Barbara Stanwyck. Initially Paul worked as a landscape architect, he became a certified architect in 1921 and the first certified African-American west of the Mississippi. He learned to draft his drawings upside down. Paul perfected this skill due to clients feeling uncomfortable sitting next to him due to the color barrier, he was able to sit across the table and so they could see his drawings right side up. Paul’s career spanned over 50 years and he designed over 3,000 homes and businesses, including Saks Fifth Avenue and MCA Music Studio. Here are a few more of his accomplishments:

1920- Served on the L.A. City Planning Commission 1923- First African American member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 1939- AIA Award of Merit for the MCA Building design in Beverly Hills 1951- Omega Psi Phi Man of the Year Award

    Check for trivia next Monday!
