FMS PTSO BiWeekly Newsletter Volume I Issue 16 FMS students took the NJASK assessments this past week and as is customary, the PTSO celebrated their handwork and milestone with the distribution of freshly baked delicious pretzels during lunch hours on the last day (Thursday) of testing. We are grateful to PTSO president Linda Darby and PTSO parents Nancy Walsh, Amanda Jennings and Robin DiMeglio who graciously spend part of their busy daily schedule to participate in the distribution of the delightful treats. The students were very appreciative for the PTSO’s gesture of accomplishment and the PTSO leadership is thankful to the FMS administration and teachers for their support. On Friday evening, the celebrations marking the end of ‘NJASK week’ was concluded with the spectacular Students/Teachers basketball game. The FMS community was very supportive as demonstrated by the large attendance of students, parents, teachers and administrators who witnessed an exciting and friendly game between talented students and their teachers/administrators. The event was sponsored by the PTSO and its teacher liaisons, Mrs. Joy Ford and Mr. Michael Harris. Both teachers did an amazing recruitment job, as well as organizing the evening’s fun-filled events. They collaborated with Mr. Aaron Ramos who was not only the event’s DJ, but also choreographed his dance troop in the performance of various dance pieces and great entertainment. The evening was an overall success and represented the best of FMS students and teachers working jointly to enhance the spirit of our school. Students from the Students Council assisted in the ticketing and sale of refreshments. This level of student-parent-teacher partnership represents a strong school unity and spirit that could serve as a foundation for continued growth and success at FMS. The list of dances and basketball game participants included 7 th and 8 th grade students and faculty members. Despite the valiant effort of the young students, their adult counterparts were determined NOT to succumb to the athleticism of the youngsters; hence, throughout the game the latter group ‘steeped’ up their ‘mojo’ whenever the score was tied or the students had a lead. Principal Adams, VP Barksdale and Dean Solomon were particularly competitive; however, Adams was also quite playful and was observed hugging and idly chasing student players around the court. Within the final minute of the game the students’ team was ahead by 4 points. Regrettably, the aforementioned determination of their comparatively age-advanced opponents was quickly realized, and with an unabashed show of supreme physicality, the seasoned adults took the lead within the final 15 seconds and sadly, the youngsters went down in defeat by a meagre 3 points as the game fell under the tyranny of the clock. In an appreciative demonstration of sportsmanship, Principal Adams ended the evening with a congratulatory message to his students, teachers, parents and the PTSO for a splendid evening of comradely and collegiality. The PTSO Executive Board commends Mrs. Ford and Mr. Harris for their continued support to the PTSO and students at FMS. They are the FMS PTSO Teachers of the week. Their unwavering commitment to students and their ability to integrate physical education and health with the academic components of a complete education for all FMS students is very much appreciated and noteworthy. We are aware of their popularity with students and the respect these students display to them. Thanks Joy and Mike for your continued service to the PTSO and your support throughout this and the previous school year. We sincerely hope that your work with FMS PTSO will continue, and the success of Friday’s Students/Teachers Basketball game will merit its annual occurrence at FMS.
