    Author GuidelinesBehavioral Disorders (BD ) is

    published four times each year by the Councilfor Children with Behavioral Disorders, a

    Division of the Council for Exceptional Children.Papers published in this journal are reports oforiginal investigations and theoretical papersthat relate to the education of students withemotional and behavioral disorders. Publicationpolicy is established by the CouncilsPublications Committee. Published articles mayuse within-or between-subject designs. Bothquantitative and qualitative studies areconsidered appropriate, although to date mostsubmissions have been quantitative in nature.Research, program evaluation reports, andposition papers should be assessed for theirsocial significance. Socially significantexperimental investigations may be basic orapplied in nature, although BD has a traditionof publishing applied research, especiallystudies related to assessment of andintervention with children and youth withemotional and behavioral disorders. Teachereducators, teachers, psychologists, administra-tors, and researchers with an interest inemotional and behavioral disorders constitute

    the majority of BD subscribers. Theoretical ortranslation of research, practice, or policy in theform of a positionstatement will be consid -ered for the Forum section of the journal. Inaddition, we will accept Brief reports ofresearch that will allow new researchers (e.g.,unior faculty, graduate students) to submit

    studies (e.g., pilot studies) that possessparticular interest to the field but may lack themethodological rigor (e.g., small sample size)to meet the standard of a regular researcharticle.

    Manuscripts must follow the format specifiedby the 6th edition of the Publication Manual ofthe American Psychological Association.Manuscripts should be electronically producedusing word processing software using doublespacing (including quotations and references)and formatted to the standard 8 1/2- by 11-inchpaper with 1 inch margins. Titles should notexceed 15 words. An abstract of no more than200 words should be printed on the pagefollowing the title page. Manuscripts of

    15 to 25 pages in length, including referencesand tables or figures, are most suitable forpublication. Brief reports should be 15 20

    pages in length, including references (not toexceed 15) and tables and figures, and shouldcombine the Results and Discussion section.

    Accuracy and completeness of all referencesand permission to use copyrighted material, ifrequired, is the responsibility of the author.The Editors should be informed of changes inaddress occurring during the review process.

    Manuscripts received are screened forappropriateness of topic and quality beforebeing sent out for review. Typically, manuscriptsare reviewed by at least three Consulting Editorswho make recommendations to an AssociateEditor who then make recommendations to theEditors. Final decisions concerning publicationare made by the Editors. The review processrequires a minimum of three months. During thereview process inquiries may be addressed tothe Editors via the website. The Editors reservethe right to make changes in the wording thatdo not change the meaning of the text. Initialsubmissions and final versions of acceptedmanuscripts should be submitted as electronic

    files at http://behavioraldisorders.allentrack2.net . No charge is made for setup ofstandard-width tables. Copies of figures andcharts should be included in the electronic textdocument or sent as a separate electronic file.

    To protect the rights of authors and theCouncil for Children with Behavioral Disorderspublications, all material published inBehavioral Disorders is copyrighted. Theauthor(s) of manuscripts accepted for publica-tion will be required to sign an agreementtransferring copyright ownership to the Councilfor Children with Behavioral Disorders. Thegranting of rights and permission regarding theuse of copyrighted material is handled by theEditors following policies developed by thePublications Committee. Concerns, questions,or suggestions may be directed to the Editorsor members of the Publications Committeewhose names are printed on the inside backcover of BD.
