know you to learn from this article? Orange Beach is a great place to play jun-

ior tennis. Both Rhett and Amy have helpedme become a better tennis player. Thenumber of junior boys that play tennis isdouble the number of junior girls. When Iwas in elementary school all I wanted to dowas play as well as the high school girls. Now that I'm in high school I hope younger

girls who see me play feel the same as Idid.

Melanie is 15 and her hometown is PerdidoKey, FL. Currently, Melanie is playing tourna-

ments, taking lessons and working with apersonal trainer to improve her fitness. Shehas started the college recruitment processonline and is looking forward to playing onher high schools first girls tennis team in2010.Melanie started taking lessons around 6-7and played her first tournament at 9. Herinterest in tennis was through her Grand-mother. She played senior tennis in southFlorida and gave me a racquet for Christmas, which led to a beginners clinic at the localclub. Her biggest supporters are her parents. Theyhave been driving her to lessons, tourna-

ments, and camps while making sure she haseverything she needs. Outside of the tennisworld, Melanie has started the sports medi-cine program at her high school. She hopes

to one day be a physical therapist. She alsoenjoys the beach, surfing, hanging out withfriends and she is trying to learn how to play

the guitar. Melanie is currently playing thelocal Florida tournaments to increase herFlorida ranking so she will have a better shotof getting into the 16's Nationals in Pensa-cola in Thanksgiving. What would you like for people that do not

Pro Tip from Amy Russell:Foundation of Footwork

Just like a house needs a good foundation, so does our tennis game. Ourfoundation in tennis is our footwork. Specifically for the ground strokes, weneed to turn sideways, get stationary and swing through rotating our stom-ach and hip forward. When we swing, the front foot needs to stay still. On

the back foot, the ankle goes up and the toe stays down as you rotate thema quarter of a turn forward.
