FRIENDS OF THE OLDHAM COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY March 9, 2011 The March 2011 General Meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by President Tony Acree. Present were Bethany Morse and Shannon Kruer from the Library, officers Tony, Mary and Carol and 7 Friends of the Library. Shannon Kruer, Children's Services Librarian, gave a power-point presentation outlining the importance and goals of the very popular Summer Reading Program. Shannon requested help from the Friends in two areas of the Reading Program: Volunteers: She asked for volunteers to help with sign-up on June 6 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. She also asked for help during the summer with crafts, chaperoning at the movies and help at the pool parties at the end of the program. Shannon and Bethany will work with Carol Braund to request and sign up volunteers. Financial Sponsorship: Shannon asked the Friends to sponsor the two pool parties at the end of the program. The cost is $720 for the 2 parties. The print deadline for sponsors is mid-April. Bethany recommended that the Friends undertake this sponsorship because it will interest young parents in participating in the Friends organization. Following Shannon's presentation the business meeting began with approval of Minutes from January's General Meeting. Cissy Maloney then summarized Library Legislative Day on February 9 in Frankfort which she and Sandy Thacker attended along with Susan, Bethany and Mary from the Library. Treasurer's Report: Carol reported that the Kentucky State Friends has grants available to Friends groups to reimburse the $400 filing fee required for 501(c)(3) status. The $35 fee for membership in the Kentucky State Friends has been submitted. After we get the 501(c)(3) status the State Friends will reimburse us. Our organization falls into the 150-200 member category. Carol also reported that since January 1, 2011 we have 5 new members and $300.00 was earned from the Bookstore. The current balance is $7,687.68.
