    Name: _Allison Hood___________________________________________________

    Teacher Observed: ___Harvey Williams__________________

Academic area/Grade level: ___CTAE Computer Applications I & II____

    School: Portal High School _________________________________

Based upon your observations, please answer the following questions in narrative form

    1. Identify the teachers goals for instruction; what is it that she wants the students to learn? How is that goal evidenced? The goal was for the Comp Ap 1 class to continuing working with WORD

and for the Comp Ap 2 class to explore EXCEL. This class was made up

of two classes in one. He handled it well in that he had notebooks for the

students to view their assignments. He went over the standards aloud for

both classes before they started their work.2. What behaviors (teacher and student) did you witness that you would consider as routine?

Examples include calling roll, lining up for recess or restroom, and distributing papers. How

were these routines carried out? Explain how these routines were effective OR ineffective.

The atmosphere was very relaxed and laid back. The students wereengaged throughout their assignments and had a check off sheet to

submit when they finished. This was the teachers way of making sure all

students were on track.3. What teacher strategies did you witness that helped maintain good behavior?

The teacher was respected by the students. He walked the classroom the

entire class period.4. If there was a class disruption, how did the teacher respond? What made the method

    effective or ineffective?

There was not a disruption.5. Was there any visible evidence of a behavior management plan? What made that plan

    effective or ineffective?

There was an obvious sense of respect in the classroom. The teacher

reminded them that ISS was available if needed.6. How can you use what you have learned in your own classroom?

The notebooks worked well for assignments. I will develop a notebook to

use for additional assignments when needed.7. Which teaching method(s) did you see

    whole group? No

    teams with competition? No

    individual work? Yes

    small group instruction? No

    pairs? Nolecture? No

differentiation? NoIdentify evidence/reasons that those methods did or did not work effectively.

This was a computer class made up of different classes. Students

worked independently to complete assignments.8. What about your day surprised you most?

The small class sized and the individual attention that was given to

each student. For the schools that are culturally and socio-economically different from the candidates

home school, please also include the following information based on the day you spent in the

    school:

What are the similarities? Students were self guided through the lessons on the

    computers.

What are the differences? The environment is not as strict as Burke County

High School. Students are allowed to roam the halls when not in class.

They can run errands for the teachers and go to other classes if needed.

How would this impact my lesson planning? I would have to develop lessons for

different students during the same class period. I would have to have

different activators and closings. It would be difficult to get used to.
