Focus group analysis

A focus group is ideal as you will need to find out aspects that

people will need in a music magazine, this is key as it give you

an idea of what to include in your music magazine.

When it came time to actually taking part in the focus group I

joined groups with 4 other people to get more peoples point of

view. I asked them a total of 7 questions so I would know what

to include in my magazine and how to design it the best way.

I have done a focus group to

find out information about the

magazine that I am going to be

creating, for example;

What the audience like

about Hip-Hop

What features they like on

a Hip-Hop magazine and

why they like it in general

What content and colour scheme they like

Why they would read a Hip-Hop magazine

Taking part in a focus group has benefited me greatly as I

know understand how to create a successful Hip-Hop magazine

as I know what the audience would like to see and what makes

them want to buy it. Overall, from asking questions I learn

that:

People like Hip-Hop as it is nice to listen to and it is well known

worldwide and there are a lot of artist from different countries,

has personal response and about life of the artists and lots of

interesting people involved. Also the audience like Hip-Hop

magazines as it helps them stay up to date with the latest

reviews and concerts, good to look at and gives information to

gather and has appealing colours and features. People said the

special features they would like to see are:

Interviews

Behind the scenes

Competitions

Free CD’s

Concert, Tour updates

Interviews

My group said in the front cover they would like to see big

known artists such as 50 cent, Eminem, Kanye West and Snoop

Dogg as they are well known and a good inspiration.

The audiences favourite type of content varied from interviews

as you hear from artists, tours, album images and free CD’s

and general images.

The colour schemes preferred are black and red as its

contrasting, purple and back, black and red as it gives a dark

edge to the magazine.

Finally the audience said they would read a Hip-Hop magazine

as it makes time go by and you can stay up to date and know

whats going on, learn about the artists and its interesting to

read as their favourite artists are in it.
