Remix magazine‘Remix’ is a multi-genre music magazine. Its main focus is pop music, but also

includes artists and stories about indie rock, R&B and country. It has a unique style that crosses all the representations of these music genres. It includes information about the latest fashion, concerts/tours and quizzes/competitions. One quiz that appears in every issue is how well you know your favourite artist, with a different

artist each time. My magazine will be called ‘Remix’ as this links to music, which the magazine is focused on. It also links to fact that is multi-genre stating it is a mix of genres. The font on my front cover, contents page and double page spread, will be

simplistic, like other pop and multi-genre music magazine, as it is easy for the audience to read even at a distant, when in the shop.

The magazine is aimed at 14 – 20 year old teenage girls, who have an interest in these genres of music and the content, which they will relate to. Because my

audience is teenagers (mainstream student demographic) who may not be able to afford expensive magazines, ‘Remix’ will be between £1 and £2, and will be released every fortnight. The age range uses both the age range of most pop music magazines

(11-15) as well as the older audience of the multi-genre magazines (16+).

Front Cover This is my draft front cover, I have tried to use bright colours that you would usually see on pop magazines as well as conventional colours of multi-genre magazines (black, white and blue). I also used mainstream pop artists for example Little Mix, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, as well as multi-genre artists like Bastille.

Next, I have made my front cover busy like pop magazines, however, still quite modern like multi-genre magazines. I have included make-up tips, gossip stories (Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato story) to adhere to the pop music magazines conventions.

Furthermore, I have used an interview with Bastille to appeal to the multi-genre audience.

Finally, I have included a flash, with a competition for the audience to win a iPod as it both adheres to music iconography and will draw in the audience. Moreover, it adheres to codes and conventions of music magazines that usually have competition.

Contents PageThis is my contents page, I have continued the bright colours and have used the institutional logo to show continuity. I have included the front cover on my contents page so the audience can go straight to the stories on the front if they are only interested in them. Also I have split the contents page into features and regulars so the audience can chose if they want to read the latest stories or the stories featured in every magazine. This determines the regular audience from the audience who are drawn in by certain artists and stories.

I have included other secondary images to draw in the fans of these artists as well. In the stories I am going to include make-up and fashion tips along with the make-up picture to appeal to the audience that wants me to include fashion and make-up tips.

I repeated the flash from the front cover as the competition will encourage the audience to buy the magazine as they feel they are receiving something from it.

Double Page Spread This is my double page spread, I have included a full page picture of Little Mix, this adheres to the codes and conventions of music magazines.

I have also carried on using all the colours from the front cover and contents page as well as including the institutional logo, to show continuity. I have also included a website on each page, to not only to show continuity, but to adhere to the social interaction strand of the ‘uses and gratifications’ theory by Blumler and Katz.

I will include the story about the main band of the magazine as this will be the main story within the magazine. I have included the exclusive in the top left hand corner as it makes the reader feel as if they are reading something no other magazine has.
