Folded Part Drawings

1. Purpose and description

The folded part drawings tool is a simple application which helps the user to create workshopdrawings of folded parts including both the folded and unfolded shape. This is achieved bycreating two workshop drawings of each folded part, one folded and one unfolded. The views

from the second drawing are then copied or linked into the first drawing.

3. Installation

1. Download the Folded Part Drawingsinstallation package from the Tekla Extranet.

4. Usage

To use the application:

1. Go to Tools> Macros... to open the Macrosdialog box.

2. Select Folded Part Drawingsand click Run.

3. Load saved settings, or set the properties to be used for drawing creation:

a. Select the drawing properties for the folded drawing and assign a drawingsheet number.

b. Select the drawing properties for the unfolded drawing and assign a differentsheet number.

c. Select whether to link or copy the drawing views, and optionally delete theunfolded drawing if copying views.

d. Select whether to create drawings for selected parts or all parts by filter.Choose a select filter if creating drawing for all parts by filter.

4. If creating drawings for selected parts, select the parts now.

5. Click Create drawings to start the drawing creation.

a. The progress of drawing creation will be shown in the progress bar.

b. The screen will be active while drawings are created and several dialogs willbe opened and closed during the creation process. Please do not attempt toperform any actions until drawing creation is complete.

c. A notice will be displayed in the status bar when drawing creation is complete.

4.1. Numbering

Before drawing creation is started, a check is made to be sure that numbering is up to date for

all the selected parts.

4.2. Drawing creation

Drawings are only created for poly-beams even if regular beams or contour plates areincluded in the selection.

If a drawing already exists for a part using one of the specified sheet numbers, that drawingwill not be over-written, and linking or copying of views cannot be performed.

Property Description

Drawing properties (Folded) The workshop drawing properties used to create thefolded form drawing

Sheet number (Folded) The sheet number which will be assigned to the foldedform drawing

Drawing properties (Unfolded) The workshop drawing properties used to create thefolded form drawing

Sheet number (Unfolded) The sheet number which will be assigned to the unfoldedform drawing

Link drawing views Select this to link the views in the unfolded drawingwhen copying to the folded drawing

Copy drawing views Select this to only copy the views from the unfoldeddrawing to the folded drawing

Copy and delete drawing Check this to delete the unfolded drawing after views

have been copied. This cannot be selected if Linkdrawing views is selected.

Selected parts Select this to create drawings for the currently selectedparts only

All parts by filter Select this to create drawing for all parts in the modelbased on a select filter. Choose the selection filter to beused from the drop down list of selection filters.

Properties for the folded part drawings tool can be saved and loaded just like any other TeklaStructures dialog by using the save and load buttons at the top of the dialog. Properties are

saved with the file extension FoldedPartDrawings.Attributes.xml. Properties files can beplaced in the system, XS_FIRM, XS_PROJECT, or model attributes folders.

6. Additional information

6.1. View scalingAfter views are copied or linked from the unfolded drawing into the folded drawing, the viewsare re-arranged in the drawing using the Arrange Drawing Views command. If auto scaling isused, this can cause the original views in the folded form drawing to change, resulting indifferent scaling for the folded and unfolded views. To maintain a consistent scale in all views,simply use fixed scaling in the folded and unfolded drawing settings.
