Vessel motion control is no exception. Fixed and

retractable stabilisers from the Brown Brothers

product portfolio have been designed and tted

to the worlds ferries, cruise ships, yachts and naval

eets since the 1930s - vessels where stability

and passenger comfort are vitally important.

The proven Aquarius retractable range, ideal for

medium to large yachts is the worlds rst to made

available with the stabilisation-at-rest feature, and

brings the benets of retractable ns to the yacht

owner or operator for the rst time. Active ncontrol and the advanced hydrodynamic design

means outstanding roll reduction at anchor and

the usual excellent performance of the Aquarius

range whilst underway.

Seakeeping model testing has

been successfully undertaken at

the Maritime Research Institute

(MARIN), in the Netherlands

in conjunction with oceAnco

Alblasserdam Yachtbuilding B.V.

Yacht roll was reduced in sea

heights of 0.5m by 80 per cent

while at rest, by 80-90 per cent

with the vessel underway and by

up to 30 per cent when the ns

are in passive mode. Performance

on individual yachts will be

dependent on the vessel and

equipment size.

Enjoy not only greater comfort, butimproved safety and performance

The Rolls-Royce retractable stabilisation-at-rest system has

benets for all on board:

Safety- ns can be folded away when not required

improving safety for swimmers, when manoeuvring in

conned spaces, or travelling at high speed. Large xed ns

may protrude outside the block section of the vessel.

Less drag with the n retracted drag is negligible, non-retractable ns are always out in the water. With the Rolls-

Royce n design, when compared to the industry standard,

there is less n drag in the working condition.

Improved performance the innovative n design means

that with the n fully retracted a small part of the trailing

edge remains outside the n box. This retains the sleek

hull form, ensuring that the extension of the n does not

extend beyond the beam of the vessel, avoiding the risk of

grounding and damage.

Fewer ns - for a typical 60 95m yacht a single pair of

Rolls-Royce retractable stabilisers will deliver the required roll

reduction.

Reliable fewer components and sub systems meansgreater integrity and availability, with less maintenance.

Compact installation units normally t in the

main machinery space, this ensures no intrusion into

accommodation areas with simple access for routine

maintenance.

At the heart of the system

is a new PLC based control

centre with a special control

algorithm and an electro-

hydraulic system thatsenses the start of any roll.

At rest, the ns are active and

oscillate at the maximum angle

to generate the reaction load to

counteract the wave motion. When

underway, the system returns the ns

to their normal degree of movement, using the lift forces

generated by the ships forward speed to damp roll motion.

The smaller Aquarius 25 (up to 3.5m) and the larger Aquarius

100 (up to 8m) are available in the stabilisation-at-rest

conguration.
