Installation of the fonts / type

Install fonts on PC

1) Extract the TTF files from the zip (this should be fine on a PC but you mayneed an extraction tool such as PKUnzip or winzip or Stuffit Expander, thesecan be found on the web)

2) On Vista, you can right click the TTF file and select the option to ‘install font’(third item in the dropdown)

3) OR, go to the control panel (via start) and select the fonts. With XP, go tothe menu and install new font. On Vista, right click and select the ‘install newfont...’ Option

If you want to see some of the characters stored in the fonts, select the font inthe control panel and then right click the font.

Fonts install on MAC OS X

The fonts are for PC and MAC OS X

To install, use an application such as Font Book found in the applications folderand use the add fonts command and select the font and open and the fonts willbe installed in your user font's library collection. You can then use the font inmany applications. The fonts can be found in the user : library : fonts folder.

You can find the FontBook application in the applications folder. Run that toinstall the font

Select the add fonts command

Then select the font file

Once the file has been added, you can then view the font in the font list (user)

Loading fonts

Fonts are accessed via the font menu of the host application. You will need tocheck the application's documentation for the exact uses of fonts. The fontsare decorative or symbols fonts and are useful in such applications as Pho-toshop ® and custom shapes. The font(s) can also be useful in DTP as well asIllustrator and Freehand.

Select the font from the menu and then the font size.

Charmap application

A good way to access the fonts is via the Charmap application on the PC.

You might also be able to find third party applications to access the TTF fontson the PC (as well as the mac): fontlab.com is a good choice but you can alsofind open source TTF font viewers as well.

Or search for the application (it is a default application with Windows). Oncethe application is running, select the font (GX_.. Depending on the font) andthen select the character and copy

Another alternative is to use the thumbnail gallery supplied with the font setand this displays the characters in the set and their location on the keyboardor the name of the character so you can select it by keystroke (ALT+0252 etc)

To see the designs on the MAC, use the character palette application (found inthe top right of the finder)

Serial number

Please store the serial number for future reference, updates, replacements etc.This is not the order number. You can find the serial number included in the zipfile only

Font (s) use

Please consult the your documentation or manuals on the host application.

The font(s) can be used in many different ways in different applications.

Convert to native shape (for Photoshop ® etc)

The font (s) can generally also be converted to the native application's formatand use say as a custom shape and distorts and have effects applied. In thecase of Photoshop ® use the layer->type->convert to shape option (or path)and then the shape can be defined as a custom shape. For example, select theA shape of the font set and set the size as required, select the character andgo to the layer menu and select type and convert to shape

Use in Photoshop ®

The shapes (converted from fonts) can be then transformed + modified +warped and more.

Normal text can also be scaled and rotated etc and also styles can be applied(as with the shapes)

Character palette

Select the character and you can also apply bold and italic as well as underlineand faux bold and other settings such as vertical scale and so on

If you wish to use the character in a work path say, you will have to removecertain of these settings such as faux bold; Photoshop will refuse to convertthe path with those settings

Convert to work path

The character can also be converted to a work path via layer > type > creatework path. Once it is a work path, go to the paths palette

Once it is a work path, go to the paths palette and change into a selection viathe make selection

Flatten the type or use the layer > rasterize type command. The text can nowhave effects applied, gradient fills and more.

The work path (if not rasterized) can be further manipulated using direct selec-tion tool; or transformed etc.

The work path / selection can also be manipulated, transformed, border added,expanded and more via the select menu

Use in Paint Shop Pro ®

Text can also be used in Paint Shop Pro, as text or the text can be convertedto a shape or effects can be applied etc

Change the font and font size etc via the text tool options, also set the createas option to ‘vector’ to keep the text as a vector design for use as a ‘presetshape’

Click on the document surface with the text tool and the text tool dialog willappear. Enter the required text. The text can be copied in from another docu-ment. You will also see the text previewed on the document. The text will takethe current color setting,

The text can be resized and rotated as well as applying perspective via holdingdown the ctrl key while you re-size (other combinations are available such asshift)

Convert text to a preset shape

To convert to a preset shape, the text must be a vector. As mentioned before,select the ‘create as vector’ option on the type palette (you don’t need to con-vert the text into a preset shape, you can do basically the same operations

with the text as with the preset shape but the preset shape is the native shapeformat for Paint Shop Pro.. So here are the steps.

Before creating the text, you may wish to change the current materials / colorof the text to be generated

Once you have the text in the color / fill / stroke as required you can then saveit as shape

The text can be converted to a shape and used as a preset shape (export to ashape via the export menu) Right click on the text to see the menu optionsand select ‘convert text to curves’

And select one of the options: as single shape or as character shapes

You can then use the design as a shape but you can now save the design aswell as the properties / materials for future use via the export command tosave the shape (as a pspshape file)

Shapes use

The shape can be used and manipulated in many other ways. The shape canalso be used to create a tube design (via selections menu from vector objectand then promote selection to layer and remove background and vector andthen send the promoted layer to export to picture tube menu command)

The text can also be rasterized. Right click on the shape to reveal the createraster selection. The text selection can be further manipulated, filled, promotedto layer and much more.

You can apply flood fills, picture tubes etc to the text selection

Use in Painter ™

The font can be used in many applications such as Painter ™, use with thelarge selection of functions in the text tool options dialog such as blur andopacity and path settings

Use in Illustrator ®

The font can be used in various Illustration packages such as Illustrator ®. Thecharacter can be modified in many ways via the character palette

You might prefer to convert the font shapes into outline using the create out-line or use the expand command

Once in Illustrator ®, use as a symbol, brush, path, etc or apply distortion /warps or apply various effects such as punk and bloat etc

Word and wordpad and other DTP applications.

The fonts can be used also in various tools such as Word pad ®, Works, OpenOffice etc. Placement of the designs depends on the application. Use variousfeatures of the DTP such as floating text / frames etc. Each application has itsown way of handling text and layers (some only allow normal typed text)

Access non-keyboard characters / PC

To access some of the characters you will need (might - this depends on thefont) to enter ALT followed by 161 or 162 or 163 164 165 or 166 etc (pleasecheck the thumbnail) The rest are all accessible via a normal keyboard charac-ter, pressing [ A ] etc

Accessing non-keyboard characters / MAC

In any application (or most) for example mail or DTP applications, go to theedit menu. Select the special characters menu option. This brings up the char-acter palette

Select the glyph view via the view dropdown. This displays the glyph catalog.Select the required font. Select the required character. This will display the se-lected character in the character info preview as well as related characters.Double click the character or click the insert character button. This will placethe character in the current application (if it can). You will have to set the fontbeforehand so if you are currently using Arial font and then you wish to add acharacter from the font pack 3 then you must first set the font or select thecharacter and set the font to the font pack 3

The character palette in MAC OS X has many different options and features toexplore.

Typestry and 3D applications

The characters may also be used in 3D applications such as Typestry (from Pix-ar ®) and others such as Carrara ®. The characters can be used as designswithin many 3D applications, add lights and materials etc as required.
