This professionally accredited degree focuseson the impact of nutrition on health anddisease, from the cell and molecular levelthrough to people and populations. It includes awork placement to boost your skills andemployability.

Facilities and supportYou'll be based in the School of Biomedical Sciences. TheSchool is in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, which is alsohome to Dentistry, Medicine and Psychology.

Situated next to Newcastle’s RVI hospital, we’re one ofthe largest integrated teaching/hospital complexes in thecountry.

Our facilities include well-equipped modern laboratories forteaching and research.

You'll be supported by a personal tutor throughout yourdegree – an academic member of staff who can help withacademic and personal issues.

You'll also have access to a peer mentor in your first year – afellow student who can help you settle in and answer anyquestions you have.

Work placement / additional qualificationYou will carry out a work placement between Stages 2 and3.

This is an excellent opportunity to apply your knowledge in awork setting and gain valuable professional experience thatwill help you stand out from other food graduates in themarketplace.

Each year a few students work on a research project atNewcastle University for their placement.

During the placement, you collate evidence of your workexperience and skills development as a portfolio. This will besubmitted for the award of a Licentiateship of the City andGuilds Institute, London (equivalent to NVQ Level 4).

We are currently the only nutrition course in the UK to offerthis opportunity to gain an additional qualification inrecognition of the development of personal, transferableskills in the workplace.

Teaching and assessment
