The mission of our church is to glorify Christ,

proclaim the Gospel, reach the lost,

and train and instruct Christians in the faith

for service and daily living.

Think about your journey with Jesus Christ! How did you first become a Christian? You were likely challenged by the good news of what Jesus had done for you on the cross. You saw the glory of God in the gospel. You repented and turned away from sin and claimed God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

You probably had a burst of spiritual excitement. This initial rush of understanding of God’s great love for you was life-changing. Unfortunately, as life con t i nues f r om tha t t ime , you can begin to lose that high level of joy that once filled your heart.

At first you may think you fully understand all the power of the gospel. In reality, you have only caught a glimpse of all that the gospel offers. Paul writes in reference to the gospel in 2 Corinthians 3:18, “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree to another. For this comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” In other words, you have only seen a fraction of what God wants to give you.

The gospel message is beholding the glory of the Lord. But, as Paul says it is moving from one glory to another. The Lord himself takes us deeper

so that we discover the glory of Jesus to a greater extent. The more you discover, the more you see. You behold the glory of God so you seek to be more like the Lord Jesus. In effect, you grow from glory to glory.

The need of the gospel to save from sin is critical, but you still need the gospel to move further in your growth. When it seems you are not moving, it is time to return the glory of the grace of God in Jesus. Your grounding in the gospel moves you forward

in mission and service for your Savior. The power for the new life you have in Christ

takes gospel living. It takes more than good teaching, fellowship with other believers, prayer and regular Bible reading, the latest new spiritual strategy. But apart from the power and glory of the gospel, you cannot know a life of blessing and serving others.

God’s plan for you is not mere existence. It’s well beyond the drudgery of daily life. God has given you the gospel which is now woven into your heart as a gift and a dream so you can invest your days in meaningful purpose. You move deeper into the glories of God’s gospel plan.

Prophecy Fulfilled! by Sharon Meier

Many times I have heard an inmate who has become a believer and disciple of the Lord Jesus proclaim he has never felt freer in his life. Each time I hear it, I know that Jesus’ mission statement prophecy has had another miraculous fulfillment.

You remember the story, don’t you? Jesus came to his hometown synagogue one Saturday and was handed the scroll of the Torah. He opened it to the prophetic book of Isaiah to what we now know as chapter 61 and started reading it aloud to the Jews who had gathered there:

“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach

good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty

to the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year

of the LORD’S favor…”Jesus then went on to declare, “Today, this

Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” Actually, it has been fulfilled every day since then and will continue to be fulfilled until He returns to Earth! We have the opportunity of participating in fulfilled prophecy every time a sinner repents and is set free from the power of sin by receiving God’s free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. We who have received this gift are also evidences of God’s faithfulness to His Word when it is fulfilled.

Wouldn’t you like to be part of fulfilled prophecy? Then share the Good News of salvation through faith in the substitutionary death and bodily resurrection of our Lord Jesus with others through speech, literature, music, drama, art, giving, whatever means you have. This good news has power to save, heal, set free, release, bring light, rescue, deliver, transform, raise the dead, break chains, and more! You have dynamite power in the Gospel to affect the past, present, and future!

Flying Free! But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary;

and they shall walk, and not faint.Isaiah 40:31

The concept of flying has inspired so much in the way of art – visual, musical, and literary. “One day, I’ll fly away,” sang Randy Crawford, evoking a view of flying as a metaphor for freedom. Other songs have taken up the same theme. “You are the wind beneath my wings”. “Love lift us up where we belong”. “Come fly with me, come fly, let’s fly away”.

The Bible also uses this metaphor. “They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31). We instinctively know that Isaiah is referring to a sense of strength, produced by the power of the Lord, by waiting on Him.

Being free from the clutches of sin is like being free of gravity! And this freedom evokes images of eagles soaring without even flapping their wings as they ride the thermal air currents.

An evolutionist has to believe that the ability to fly has evolved. Not only that, but they must believe that this ability has evolved at least three times, and maybe four – birds, bats, flying insects, and pteradactyls being the four groups of animals which fly.

In contrast, the Bible tells us that flight was a deliberate design of God. Flying creatures were created on Day Five of the creation week. God designed flight, and the Bible says that He pronounced it “good”

Me-ism: What’s in it for me?We seem to have become a country of me-

ism people whose only concern is - what's in it for me? JFK's quote from a founding father, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country" has been lost in the recesses of history. His cry did touch some people of that generation. Then what? Was it not fully embraced (understood?), or was this principle never passed on to the next generation? How would this message resonate now?

And you? Is this how you look at life? Are you a ‘me-ism’ person? And yes, to some degree we all are, but are you part of the vast majority that is primarily looking out for self?   What has happened to/in our country? We used to be a nation that stood by our word. And yes, there were excesses, evil, and violence in the past … but it has increased exponentially. Fortunately, all is not lost.

Remember 2 Chronicles 7:14? That is the formula to turn this country back to its foundation. And it can start with each one of us… if we will stand for what is good, right, and true, we can impact our country.

However, in the midst of all this is the knowing that in small and more obvious ways, each of us has the option, daily, to make a difference in our world. We choose to make our world better, or we walk away in an attempt at isolation… but we can't plead ignorance. Remember that little things are critical... that's a good basis for growth.

George Schneider will soon have more information. Watch for it!

Save the Date!

Our sympathies go out to a number of people in our congregation who have suffered the loss of family members in June. Please keep them in your prayers as they process life without those they love.

The Schmidt family grieves the loss of Teresa’s mother. The Oehler and Russell families are sorrowing the loss of Mark’s mother. The Peak and Meier families suffered the loss of son-in-law/brother-in-law.

Come share your time and talents with Faith Kids on Wednesday nights or Sunday mornings. Children’s Church has openings for

teachers and One Way Club/Bridge/Youth has opportunities to serve as group leaders and sound room helper.
