Founder of Piezoelectric Effect• Pierre Curie & Jacques Curie – two curie brother discovered the

PIEZOELECTRIC EFFECT in 1880.

Piezoelectric Effect

The generation of an electric charge in certain non-conducting materials , such as quartz crystals & ceramics , when they are subjected to mechanical stress such as pressure or vibration is known as PIEZOELECTRIC EFFECT.

Piezoelectricity is the electric charge that accumulates in certain solid materials such as crystals, certain ceramics, and biological matter such as bone, DNA and various proteins in response to applied mechanical stress. The word piezoelectricity means electricity resulting from pressure. It is derived from the Greek piezo or piezein , which means to squeeze or press, and electric or electron , which means amber, an ancient source of electric charge.

The piezoelectric effect is understood as the linear electromechanical interaction between the mechanical and the electrical state in crystalline materials with no inversion symmetry. The piezoelectric effect is a reversible process in that materials exhibiting the direct piezoelectric effect also exhibit the reverse piezoelectric effect. For example, lead zirconate titanate crystals will generate measurable piezoelectricity when their static structure is deformed by about 0.1% of the original dimension. Conversely, those same crystals will change about 0.1% of their static dimension when an external electric field is applied to the material. The inverse piezoelectric effect is used in production of ultrasonic sound waves.

Foot Step Energy Generation• Today World is going through shortage of sources of energy so we have to think

about this worldwide problem. Piezoelectric effect helps us in producing our mechanical energy or mechanical pressure into electricity.

• Foot step energy is one of application of piezoelectric effect which can be used in two different ways:

I. Installing piezoelectric sensors in Pathways - Footstep energy HarvestingII. Installing Piezoelectric sensors in Shoes - Footstep energy Generation

WorkingWhen ever force is applied on piezo electric crystals that force is

converted to Electrical energy is used to drive DC loads. And that minute voltage Which is stored in the Lead Acid battery. The battery is connected to the inverter.

This inverter is used to convert the 12 Volt D.C to the 230 Volt A.C. This 230 Volt A.C voltage is used to activate the loads.

We are using conventional battery charging unit also for giving supply to the circuitry.

Main Era of Foot-Step Harvesting

The project “FOOT STEP POWER GENERATION FOR RURAL ENERGY APPLICATION TO RUN A.C. AND D.C. LOADS” is successfully tested and implemented which is the best economical, affordable energy solution to common people. This can be used for many applications in rural areas where power availability is less or totally absence. As India is a developing country where energy management is a big challenge for huge population. By using this project we can drive both a.c. as well as D.C loads according to the force we applied on the piezo electric sensor.
