FOR A NEW EUROPEAN CULTURAL ROUTE
The Project LEONARDO DA VINCI’S WAYS was launched in Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo (Vinci 1452-Amboise 1519), in
view of the Celebrations of 2019, to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo, a global event.
The logo of the Itinerary, a knot designed by Leonardo that recalls Salomon’s knot, represents the Union among peoples in
the circularity of cultures.
LEONARDO DA VINCI’S WAYSEUROPEAN THEME
In this epic period of history,
characterized by wars, divisions
and building of separation
walls, the itinerary will
highlight the emblematic
figure of Leonardo to update
the idea of Europe and to form
the new European citizen.
A Europe capable of giving
birth to a New Humanism
based on the recognition of the
Universal Value of the Human
Being, which is effectively
expressed in the famous
drawing the Vitruvian Man.
LEONARDO DA VINCI’S WAYSTHE ITINERARY: main places of LIFE and WORKS
The Itinerary will trace
the MAIN STEPS of
Leonardo’s LIFE and the
location of his WORKS
and, later on, of the
Leonardismi;
it will also convey the

After defining the Itinerary in its ESSENTIAL CONTENTS (EUROPEAN TOPIC AND MAIN TAPES), that were
already highlighted at the Forum of VILNIUS Lithuania 26-27.10.2016, the next step was characterized
by the following ACTIVITIES:
1. INVOLVEMENT OF THE LOCAL POPULATION, ASSOCIATIONS AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES
2. SHARING OF THE PROJECT WITH OTHER LOCAL AND REGIONAL AUTHORITIES THROUGHOUT
ITALY
3. COMPARISON WITH OTHER CULTURAL ROUTES OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE
4. RESEARCH FOR AN AGREEMENT ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE EUROPEAN NETWORK
ASSOCIATION composed of at least three states, giving priority to three of the countries where
Leonardo lived and which he visited: besides ITALY (Vinci), FRANCE (Amboise, Château du Clos
Lucé) and SLOVENIA (Vipava), to define STATUTE, VISIBILITY AND COMMON ACTIONS (research and
development, European memory and heritage, cultural exchanges for young people, contemporary
creativity, cultural tourism and sustainable development) in accordance with the Resolution CM /
Res ( 2013) 67 for the purposes of the final Certification.

In VINCI, a typical Tuscan
village near Florence,
everything talks about
Leonardo:
the toponym that Leonardo
keeps in his name;
the landscape that echoes in
all his works;
the house where he was
born, the Castle with the
Church where he was
baptized and a few buildings
that belonged to the Da Vinci
and to his mother;
the places where he had his
first artistic training.
The last residence of
Leonardo, CLOS LUCÉ is
located 600 meters from the
Royal Castle of AMBOISE in
the heart of the
Loire Valley.
In the Castle of Clos Lucé,
Leonardo spent the last three
years of his life (1516-1519),
he completed his last
masterpieces and dedicated
himself to numerous projects
for his patron,
King Francesco I.
LEONARDO DA VINCI’S WAYSFRANCE (CLOS LUCÉ - AMBOISE)
VIPAVA is located in a green
valley crossed by the river of
the same name (in Italian
Vipacco) in an area rich in
vineyards, known by lovers of
good wine and for its
wine and food tourism.
Leonardo went there in the first
few months of the year 1500,
developing plans to defend
from the Turks the territory of
the Republic of Venice, in the
current border area between
Italy (Friuli Venezia Giulia)
and Slovenia.

LEONARDO DA VINCI’S WAYS
For more than seventy years I have been working between
Europe and the United States of America in order to promote
the world-wide knowledge of Leonardo Da Vinci, whom I came
to characterize as the "European Genius" on the occasion of
the Brussels exhibition of 2007, celebrating the fifty years of
the Rome Treaty.
Leonardo is a most fascinating and emblematic symbol in the
context of our culture and civilization. This project on "Le vie
di Leonardo", Leonardo Da Vinci's ways, could well become
an extraordinary opportunity for us to stimulate ever more
the political and cultural entity of the European Countries in
a sustained dialogue – straightforward, meaningful and
fruitful – with every other part of the world.
My warmest congratulations to all people involved.
