for all the saints september 2015—issue...
TRANSCRIPT
There was a magazine cartoon one time that showed a professor beginning a lecture on the practice of communication. He said, ‘Communication is any modus operandi by or through which eventuates the reciprocal transposition of information between or among entities or groups via commonly understood systems of symbols, signs, or behavioral patterns of activity.’
Some people have a knack for making even simple things complicated! But I am thankful that God communicates to us in ways we can understand because He wants us to know Him and His will for us. And Jesus’ final communication to us is found in the last book of the Bible—the book of Revelation.
We are currently in a sermon series on Revelation that we began a few weeks ago. God designed the book of Revelation to reveal His plan for the world. It can be a bit overwhelming at times, but the good news is that despite all the symbolism and figures of speech, God wants us to know. Revelation wasn’t given to scare us, but to show us what will happen so that we don’t lose hope. I believe it is a book of comfort.
And so I hope that you will be sure to be in worship each week of the series and be reading ahead so that you don’t miss anything that God has for each of us.
Yours & His, Pastor Dan

JANE RUBIETTA
Mesmerizing. Brilliant. Deep. Hilarious.
“Life-changing” “A miraculous time!” “Profound” To portray what happens when Jane steps in front of a microphone is to illustrate electricity. To call it “speaking” is one - dimensional! Audiences describe her speaking as mesmerizing, deeply spiritual, funny, vulnerable, dramatic, and personal. “Disarmingly real,” as one reviewer put it, Jane's passion is to see people's hearts restored by the knowledge of the truth: that God absolutely delights in them, that God is crazy about them, that God would give everything on earth to make sure they know they are loved. The problem is, she says, “that we have lost our hearts. We are so busy stamping out fires and tending to a thousand urgencies every day, that we don't remember, don't notice, that our hearts have gotten trampled somewhere in all the stamping.” “I believe that every issue we face - whether busyness, failure, shame, transitions - every issue is intended to lead us to God," she says. "Our tendency is to let our problems separate us from God and one another - but instead, they can become tools to allow us to deepen our spiritual lives, and to in turn change the world!" Jane speaks internationally and ecumenically, inviting her audiences to tumble into Jesus’ arms and find the love they’ve been looking for. Don’t miss Jane’s critically acclaimed Worry Less, Live More, and the Deeper Devotion series, including Finding Your Promise: From Barren to Bounty - the Life of Abraham, and Finding Your Name: From Insecurity to Inheritance - the Lives of Isaac and Jacob. Other books include Come Closer: A Call to Life, Love, and Breakfast on the Beach, Resting Place: A Personal Guide to Spiritual Retreat, the award-winning Grace Points: Growth and Guidance in Times of Change (InterVarsity Press, 2004), How to Keep the Pastor You Love (IVP, 2002), the award-winning Quiet Places, Still Waters (a Gold Medallion Nominee), Between Two Gardens (Bethany House, 2001). With Shirley Mitchell, Jane co-authored Fabulous after 50 (New Leaf Press, 2000) and Sensational After 60 (New Leaf Press, 2005). She co-authored with Lois Evans Stones of Remembrance: A Rock-Hard Faith in Rock-Hard Places. Jane’s hundreds of articles appear in indeed, Fulfill, HomeLife, Significant Living, MomSense, Fulfill, Plus, Christianity Today, and many other periodicals. Her books have been featured in Crossings Book Club, as “Top Picks” in Today’s Christian Woman, and Book of the Week on Midday Connection. Denominations have selected her books for their recommended reading programs. Jane is also a contributor to the “Gifted for Leadership” website. After obtaining a B.S. in Business from Indiana University, Jane completed postgraduate studies in Germany while also forming and directing an international drama team, taking the Gospel throughout Europe. She attended seminary at Trinity Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. Jane is assistant coordinator and faculty member of Write-To-Publish Writer's Conference, where she finds enormous joy in helping others follow their God-given dreams. She belongs to Advanced Writers and Speakers' Association (AWSA) and SpeakUp! Speaker Services.

BE A BACKPACK BUDDY & HELP US FEED
HUNGRY STUDENTS IN OLDHAM COUNTY
Dare to Care started the Backpack Buddy program in 2004. Today, at a cost of only $120 per child, the Backpack Buddy program serves 38 schools, providing backpacks full of kid‐friendly, nutri ous food each Friday for over 2,000 children at risk of hunger. The school in O.C. that St. John sponsors has 30 children who receive weekly backpacks. Please help us reach our goal of $3,000 by contributing any amount. Make check payable to St. John; note “Backpack Buddies” on the memo line.
The program serves children who live in food insecure homes and are likely to experience hunger on the weekend, when free and reduced‐price breakfasts and lunches are not available. Children are signed up based on recommenda ons from their teachers. The teachers are made aware of signs to watch for, including: asking for food, taking food from others, complaining of frequent headaches and stomach aches.
Teachers at par cipa ng schools have shared the following outcomes as a result of Backpack Buddy: Par cipants have become more responsible in other
aspects of life, including homework Par cipants have increased a endance on Fridays Par cipants are more alert on Mondays Par cipants have a greater sense of confidence and
pride
Thanks for your support!
CAN I HEAR GOD?
In praying to God, we may o en wonder if He hears us. However, do you ever wonder if God is saying to us “Can you hear me?”
How do you know when He is speaking? Leah DiPascal, speaker, writer and inspira onal Bible teacher, provides the following biblical references to assist us in our hearing.
BELIEVE: Jesus said in John 8:47a, “Whoever belongs to God hears what God says” (NIV). If you've accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you belong to Him. You already have the capability of discerning God's voice when He speaks to you. This happens through the work of the Holy Spirit.
ANTICIPATE: 1 Samuel 3:9b says, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening” (NIV). What if we approached each day with an a tude of an cipa on, making this verse a welcome invita on for the Lord to speak to us? Let's set our hearts and minds to a place of readiness as we wait to hear from God.
FOLLOW: Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (ESV). God doesn't just speak to be heard. He speaks to be obeyed. When we discern God's voice of direc on or correc on, we have to be willing to follow in obedience.
Great path to follow! Add a prayerful request to God for a tude of expecta on, faithfulness and obedience. Make it your first prayer of the morning. Can you hear Him now?
If we give more of ourselves to God, God will give more of Himself to us! (Mark Ba erson)
Blessings,
