INNOVATIVE ACADEMY PROGRAMS OFFER:

PROFESSION-BASED LEARNINGGuerin Prep Innovation Academy faculty will develop real-world, project-based learning opportunities with business and community partners to prepare students for college and career. DePaul University will support establishing business and community partners for the school.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENTGuerin Prep Innovation Academy students develop skills such as effective communication, time and project management, and professional workplace behavior through seminars, group work, and career-based learning opportunities.

FINE ARTS ACADEMY The Fine Arts Academy of Guerin Prep is designed to provide students of all skill levels who have expressed a passion for the arts the opportunity to explore and develop their talents. Fine Arts Academy students will participate in a distinct college-preparatory curriculum offering professional arts training. At Guerin Prep, art students acquire the skills and experiences as performers and creators of art needed to pursue further studies at the university level.

THEATRICAL PERFORMANCEOur drama classes focus on key areas such as the development of the actor’s instrument, collaborative creation of original work, text analysis, scene work, and improvisation.

VISUAL ARTSServing a broad spectrum of students, the visual arts program stresses creativity, production, and relationships to both the arts community and the broader world.

VOCAL PERFORMANCEVocal Performance students dive into the fundamental elements of music: theory, musicianship, history, diction, and piano, as well as classes focused on solo and ensemble singing, musical theatre, opera scenes, choral ensembles, and classic voice.

GOSPEL VALUES, SELF-DISCOVERY AND EXPLORATIONGuerin Prep Innovation Academy students realize their strengths and passions by exploring and experiencing potential professions through career speakers, mentorships and internships. DePaul University will support establishing the connections.

NewCOMPUTER SCIENCE ACADEMY The Computer Science Academy (CSA) is designed to introduce students to the major components and computer science principles that drive all we see and do on our devices. From web design, application development, network security, and video game design, a student will develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills to build a robust programming knowledge base, as well as graduate with a portfolio of their work.

Through the CSA, students will:

• Explore the basics of application development, through block-based design, scripting, object- oriented development, and coding for multiple platforms.

• Learn modern day web design. Using CSS, AJAX, HTML5, and PHP, students will develop modern, flexible websites and web apps that leverage current technology to greatly enhance the availability and exposure of their work.

• Understand how a computer network functions, be able to identify attack vectors, learn how to mitigate a cyber threat, and properly protect a network.

• Identify an industry in the field they would like to pursue outside of the classroom.

• Develop a digital portfolio of their work.

Through the flexibility of the CodeHS curriculum and pathways, a student can gain exposure in one or more areas of focus, starting as early as Freshman or as late as a Junior. These pathways are intended to help a student determine what concentration of the CSA would be most beneficial to pursue post-graduation.

Guerin Prep offers three academic programs of study for our students: NOLAN SCHOLAR PROGRAM, PROVIDENCE PROGRAM, and SULLIVAN PROGRAM. All programs prepare the student for post-secondary education and each is aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards. The uniqueness of the curriculum allows students to benefit from a truly individualized approach to learning. Students are able to move among the three programs as their skills and accomplishments allow.

NOLAN SCHOLAR PROGRAMTo become a Nolan Scholar, you will have to perform within a certain percentile on the entrance exam and exhibit academic excellence. You must be a highly motivated learner, show evidence of leadership and service to others and thrive in a challenging environment while embracing enrichment opportunities.

PROVIDENCE PROGRAM This program is a standards-based college prep curriculum which links educational opportunities with fine arts.

SULLIVAN PROGRAMThis program is designed for the student who requires help in developing his/her knowledge base and cultivation of essential skills in a given subject.

Faith is at the heart of the mission of Guerin Prep. We build our Catholic faith by celebrating mass and prayer services together as a community. Our campus ministry program allows you to take part in planning these celebrations. The Service Experience Program is an essential part of the educational and spiritual development at Guerin Prep. Organizations like Feed My Starving Children and Adopt-a-Kid are just two of the many service opportunities in which you may participate.

COLLEGE CREDITEarn a FULL YEAR OF COLLEGE CREDIT while following our PLUS ONE dual college credit curriculum.

Get on the fast track to earning college credit while still in high school with Triton College and Concordia College’s Dual Credit and Dual Enrollment programs.

Guerin has a partnership and collaboration with DePaul University that will focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.) This initiative will increase cross-curricular collaboration while elevating student-centered learning experiences.

BARBARA WELCH LEARNING CENTERThe Welch Center is open to all students to maximize high school academic performance and enhance social skills to prepare for success in college. This is a structured study for groups and individuals. Peers and faculty are there to assist in acquiring studying skills, time management, and organizational skills.
