Garage Sale Trail is calling on all Aussies to get involved. Not because having a garage sale on one day will change the course of the world or even Australia’s environmental course but because it’s a symbol and celebration of being conscious that we can all make a difference to the plight of the planet and our local community too. Buying or selling at a garage sale is one of those simple actions we can all do as part of a whole range of behaviours to lead a more sustainable lifestyle....and make a few bucks in the process.

Youth Projects raised money for support and education for the homeless youth in Melbourne. They hosted a shoe sale, selling over 500 pairs of donated shoes, to raise money for their cause. They’ve participated two years running, and use Garage Sale Trail as a way to generate media and raise funds and create a conversation about the issue in their community.

Waterford Preschool wanted to raise money for an underprivileged community in India, to buy books and basic supplies for the kids who live there. They used word of mouth and asked parents and neighbours to participate in the Garage Sale Trail. On the day they sold everything from baby clothes and toys to cakes and oldstock from Waverley Library. They raised over $2000 (double the amount of money they expected) for the Indian community and made the front page of the local newspaper. They also used the day to teach the kids about recycling and reuse.

Wyndham Park Community Hub hosted a huge car boot sale with over 100 stalls available. The hub included Wyndham Park Community Centre, Glen Orden Spots club, The Werribee mens Shed, Karingal Whyndham Disability, The Smith Family, The Heathdale Kindergarten, Maternal Child Health Service and the Wyndham Park Primary School. The hub charged $10 per car for anybody interested in having a stall and free entry for browsers and buyers. The event set up stalls on the Garage Sale Trail website, to people could pre-book spots directly with the event orgniaser.
