disabled children and young people to access activities within their local community
in the evenings, at weekends and in the school holidays. Breaks last between two and
six hours.

Supported internships for young people with education, health and care plans at City College Southampton
What is a Supported Internship?
The supported internship enables young people to combine a work placement with a work skills programme at college along with working on Maths and English skills.
Our personalised supported internship is aimed at young people aged 16 to 24 who have a or an EHC plan and who want to move into employment and need extra support to do so.
It is not so much a college course as an employment programme designed to get the intern into work. This internship programme will give young people the skills they need for work, through learning in the workplace.The programme is designed to assist disabled young people to achieve sustainable paid employment by giving them the skills they need for employment through learning in the workplace.
What will I be doing as part of an Internship?
Developing skills valued by employers Improving work skills through a work placement Developing confidence at work Building up experience for a CV Completing a range of work ready qualifications Getting personalised support from a Tutor and work coach while you learn Improving English and maths skills
Who can do a supported internship?
Anyone aged 16-24 with an Education, Health and Care plan can do a supported internship.
Will I get paid?
Supported internships are unpaid, but equip you with the skills that employers need in order for you to move on to paid employment.

Skills Required You'll need:
excellent practical and maths skills
the ability to understand technical plans and drawings
computer-aided design (CAD) skills in some areas What you'll do Your work could range from building hulls for sea-going vessels to restoring the fixtures and fittings on traditional narrowboats. What you'll do depends largely on your location. In a boatyard you'll usually work in boat-building, repair and maintenance on smaller craft. You'll use carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding and painting skills, as well as more traditional maritime craft skills like rigging and sailmaking. You'll work with materials ranging from wood and steel to reinforced resins. Career path and progression With experience and qualifications, you could work your way up to technician level. You could also move into marine design, or specialist equipment sales and support. You could use your skills to transfer into the wider engineering or construction engineering industries.
Entry Requirements: There are no set requirements for this role. Some employers may ask for 4 or 5 GCSEs (A* to C) including English, maths and a design subject. Qualifications in marine engineering or experience in welding, joinery or plumbing may be useful when looking for work. You could get into this job through an apprenticeship.

We are currently looking for Ward Hosts to work with us alongside the trust, delivering the best in patient care. This role is an integral part of the trusts service and you will play a significant role in maintaining a positive patient experience throughout their stay As a ward host you will be part of the onsite catering team ensuring the co-ordination of patient meals and beverage services are delivered on time to the relevant ward. You will be responsible for ensuring your area is clean and hygienic to the highest standards, prepare and collect meals selected by patients for that days service and interact with patients on a daily basis.
Main Responsibilities
You will be involved in preparing and serving meals, snacks and beverages throughout the day in a fast paced, customer focused environment as well as ensuring that all beverages are served at the correct temperature according to food hygiene regulations.
To wash utensils used in process of your duties i.e. the cutlery, trays and crockery used for patients.
To work alongside the clinical nurses who will guide on what patient diets and fluids are required according to their medical needs.
Be able to demonstrate high standards of customer interaction with patients and Trust staff to be an ambassador for the service.
Maintain food safety and hygiene standards in your place of work and apply the food safety procedures applicable in your work area.
Taking food orders using the provided Ipad (Saffron) with patients, explaining possible choices available to them throughout the day.
Specific Requirements
All candidates must have excellent communication & customer service skills.
You will need to be hard working, committed and show a passion for working in a customer focused environment.
Understand the importance of hygiene and safety.
We require a good standard of English language, both written and verbal, as you will consistently be communicating with patients and NHS staff.
Previous experience in a food service environment / catering industry.

Dear Parent/Guardian, Between January and now your young person attended a talk on the National Citizen Service (NCS) as part of their assembly at school. Hopefully they have come home and spoken to you about the programme, but if not here is a bit of an overview to discuss with them. NCS is a national, government-funded programme which is open to every 15 – 17 year old in England. NCS is a once-in-a-lifetime experience which builds skills and confidence whilst helping young people get ahead. NCS will improve a young person’s CV by giving them important skills for work and life that are hard to teach in the classroom alone. The programme will help young people contribute to their local community, develop their social skills and meet new people from different backgrounds. WHAT HAPPENS ON NCS?
The programme runs in the summer holidays over 4 weeks: Week 1- 5 days away from home enjoying instructor-led group activities such as kayaking, high ropes and rock climbing. Week 2 - While spending 5 days living in Southampton Solent University Halls, the young people’s responsibility is increased as they cook and budget for themselves, and are encouraged to become more independent. They take part in community based workshops and events to increase teamwork and develop life skills. Weeks 3 & 4 - The young people will meet with local businesses and organisations, before planning a ‘Social Action Project’ in their local community. They will then pitch for funding to kick start their chosen project, ready to make an impact in Southampton. Finally…they graduate - receiving a certificate signed by the Prime Minister. As part of the NCS Graduate Programme they get access to unique opportunities to continue volunteering and stay connected to each other and their local community. There is a small cost to the programme of £50, which covers all food, accommodation, transport and all activities for the first two residential weeks. The second two are based in central Southampton where young people commute in daily. We have 6 departure dates available over the summer so can work around holiday, work or other commitments to find some dates which work for you. Spaces are filling up fast so please do get in touch to secure a spot. We have been into every school in Southampton and have a range of young people from different backgrounds and areas attending. It provides a wonderful opportunity for making new friends in preparation for college life. Do you need help getting online? Or maybe you know someone who needs extra support to get online?
With many services moving online including housing benefits, college and apprenticeship applications and even online shopping, it can be very daunting for people who don’t know how to use computers and IT systems. Southampton City Council have put together an interactive IT map which shows information about a wide range of IT facilities, training and free Wi-Fi that is available in Southampton to help support people to get online. The map is designed to be used by advisers, family and friends or a user themselves to find the most appropriate IT training/facilities to suit them.
