ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTCanton’s economy is fueled by a large industrial base and has a signifi cant agricultural presence. The Timken Company and Timken Steel, major manufacturers of roller bearings, specialty steels and other products for industrial applications, are both headquartered in Canton. Several other large companies with operations in the Greater Canton area include Belden Brick Company and Diebold, which produces electronic voting devices, bank vaults and half-track armored vehicles.
Several regional food producers located in the Canton area are Nickles Bakery, Park Farms (poultry) and Shearer’s Foods (snacks). Poultry production and dairy farming round out the list of agricultural contributors.
The development of the Utica shale play continues to have a major impact on the region. As companies continue to drill wells and build pipelines, the amount of investment and jobs created continues to grow.
